Breakfast with a new face
Alyssa sat down for breakfast, she was late that morning, but since classes had not officially started for her she thought that it was fine. Most of the Great Hall was empty, a few students were there. Some reading the Daily Prophet some were busy reading.
She ate some of the jam scones that she had taken from the serving plates. They were delicious, she wondered whether Hogwarts kitchen was still run by the house elves. It had to be, all through Hogwarts history, they are mentioned. A smile formed on her lips, this was her second day at the school. She was excited to start her classes. Two of the students at the Ravenclaw table were playing Wizards Chess. It was a very intense match up. The two friends seem to enjoy themselves.
Alyssa took a sip from her juice, it was sweeter today than it had been yesterday. She heard an owl screech, a frown formed on her brow as she saw which owl it was. It was one of the school owls that she had sent home to her mother.
He was a magnificent creature, a striped owl, it landed in front of her. She smiled at it as she gave it a cookie that she had been holding on to. She remembered promising the owl a treat when it returned to her. He took the cookie gracefully and ate it immediately. She glared at the owl waiting for some sort of reaction. There was none, he simply stared at her, hooted and took off. She laughed as it exited the Great hall. She was glad that he did not have a letter for her. That meant her mother was still boiling over her being sorted into Gryffindor.

Loneliness followed her around like an old friend ready to receive her.

Breakfast with a new face
Rosie, who awakes at exactly quarter to seven every morning like clockwork, has been sitting in the Great Hall for 45 minutes already. She's finished her breakfast - porridge, with strawberries, and orange juice - and is instead poring over the Daily Prophet. Rosie doesn't exactly follow the news, partly being too young to really care and partly because she hates reading, but there wasn't really much else to do as a first year, especially after her brother leaves for his classes. She's eagerly checking out the latest Quidditch results - the Irish Nationals being her favourite, obviously - when the flutter of wings above catches her attention.
She looks on fondly - she loves owls, can't wait until she can have one of her own - but the last thing she expects to see is Pierce, the family screech owl. It's only her second day, surely there can't be anything awful to report already? Does her mother and father really miss her that much? Pierce glides gracefully down to land on her shoulder, nipping affectionately at her ear. "Hello, gorgeous!" She says happily, stroking his downy chest as he drops a package with a thump in front of her. With his characteristic loud screech, he takes off again with the rest of the departing owls.
It seems that, yes, her mother and father do miss her that much, because the package contains a letter - mainly an update on her dogs - and a big packet of toffees. Rosie's favourite. She tears the pack open and starts munching happily, when her eye catches on another first year sitting a little further down the table. She'd had an owl, but it hadn't delivered anything. Rose suddenly feels very greedy, and scoots herself down the bench until she's beside the girl, who she vaguely recognizes from the Sorting Ceremony. "Hiya, do you want a toffee?" She asks brightly.

Breakfast with a new face
@ Rosie
Startled by the sudden movement Alyssa glanced at the girl sitting next to her, a small frown formed on her forehead. It would be rude to refuse, she thought to herself. She fiddled with her fingers as she pondered a response. The rest of the Great Hall was quiet, most of the students had left and only a select few were left.
"Uhmm, thank you," she responded as she took the toffee from the girl. She fiddled with the wrapping paper, it did not look familiar, she had not seen these sweets in London before. She placed the toffee in her mouth. It was sweet and tasted like warm caramel. It was surprisingly good. She smiled at the girl. "You are very kind," she spoke again. Trying not to be rude, she never knew how to talk to other children her age. It always felt awkward, but she was enjoying having someone to talk to, even if it was a silent discussion on the wonders of the confectionary that she was sharing. She wondered if the girl felt as out of place as she did. Most of the students at Hogwarts seem to fit in irrespective of the house that they were sorted into. She carefully folded the wrapper into a tiny square and placed it on the table in front of her.
