Alyssa silently walked into the library, she felt at home here. It was quiet, most of the students were either in the Great Hall or they had already left for the dormitories.

Her curiosity got the better of her and she wanted to spend some time in the library, the day had been excruciating in a sense that her world had been crushed and molded back together. She has yet to talk to anyone. She felt a bit lonely but this was how it always was.

She strolled through the bookshelves, she read the spines of the books, finding each one more interesting than the one before.

She took one book off the shelf, a book on potions. A soft smile formed on her lips as she took it to one of the booths. She silently sat down and opened the book, it had been one of her favorites. She loved potions, as young as she was. She never brewed them before, but she enjoyed learning about new ones. This book, in particular, did not go into detail of how to create, rather it went into detail about the creator of the potion and some of the historical events where potions were used.

She remembered that her brother used to tell her about Felix Felicis, liquid luck. It had a very interesting history, a very difficult potion to concoct. A smile formed on her lips as she read further.

Loneliness followed her around like an old friend ready to receive her.

Amaya walked in, scanning the room for a good quiet place to write. She liked libraries, for studying, but also because the peace and quiet of them made it a good place to focus. She stepped around tables and bookshelves, and found a dark-ish spot between two shelves. She sat her things beside her, pulled a piece of parchment almost covered with words from her pocket, and picked up one of her own quills. She sat for a while, thinking of what to write next, when she saw a brown-haired girl sitting at one of the tables, reading. She wondered if she should try to talk to someone, maybe her. She was just another random person sitting in the room, but she might be nice. She shook the thought out of her head, it was a library, and she didn't want to interrupt the girl's reading time. She sighed, and looked back at her piece of parchment, gently tapping her quill onto the corner of it, leaving a dot of ink. She didn't know why she did this, it was just a habit of hers. She had always just tapped her quill on her parchment without thinking, and she really didn't mean to annoy people, but it always seemed to. She glanced at the girl again, and once again, turned back to her story.

Alyssa sighed as she closed the book in front of her. The information was interesting, but she felt like she was not doing it justice. She gazed at the students in the library, it wasn't in her nature to talk to anyone. She felt compelled to try though, she had to change to fit in, she could not possibly enjoy her schooling at Hogwarts without having someone to talk to.

She stood up, walked over to the bookshelf where she found the potions book, she replaced it and turned around to go back to her table.

She paused before she sat down, a frown formed on her forehead as she turned back. She took a full breath and walked over to the Hufflepuff student, her heart raced as she stopped a few feet away from her.

She fiddled with her fingers as she wondered what she should say, surely there was an easier way to talk to people. She pondered whether it would be appropriate to send an owl into the library, a smile formed on her lips as she rethought her silly idea, of course, they would not allow this kind of behavior. Owls are not one of the cleanliest creatures and some of them might damage the books.

She cleared her throat.

"Hi, I am Alyssa, I am new to Hogwarts. This is my first year and I was wondering if you would like some company?"

Her voice sounded shaky and she shyly awaited a response.

Loneliness followed her around like an old friend ready to receive her.

Severus quietly entered the library. He quickly looked around. He had never been in the library before so he was curious as to how anything in the library looked. He saw a hufflepuff and a gryffindor talking, a ravenclaw writing something, as well as the usual things you would find in a library. Books, chairs, tables, and the rest. Nothing unusual. He felt a bit lonely as the only slytherin in the library. Hopefully they had nothing against slytherin like some people had. He looked around the bookshelves to find a book that looked interesting. There were so many books that looked interesting that he had trouble picking just one. He eventually decided on a book about magical creatures. He had always loved all types of animals and wondered what animals the world of wizardry had. He sat down on a chair and began reading. He had nothing to do and needed a way to pass the time, and reading had always been something he enjoyed alot. He thought about saying hi to the other people in the library but decided against it. He didn't know how he would introduce himself to them anyway. Who says they would even want to talk to him?

Amaya watched another student enter the library, and sit down at a table. She didn't realize how empty the library was, and looked around to see only three other people. But, some bookshelves were blocking her view, so there might of been more. She wondered if any of them wanted to talk, or maybe be friends. But, she really didn't want to interrupt anyone reading or studying, she knew how rude that was. She sighed, and sat her quill down for a second. She pondered on what to write next, probably a battle. As she got lost in thought, and stared at a bookshelf, she tapped her quill on her paper. She wondered if this bothered anyone, and quickly stopped. She thought of how to introduce herself to the other people here. Hey i'm Amaya! Could I please sit here? She felt stupid, and stopped to think about her story again. She had spent so long on this part, and yet she still couldn't think of what should happen. Maybe she could ask someone? No, they would probably need to read it, or need details on the characters, so definitely not. Maybe she could hint it..? People would probably ask her to leave them alone...

"Mia Fox"

A smile formed on Alyssa's' lips as she followed Mia to a table. It was nice to actually talk to a living human being. She took a seat and placed her books next to her, being careful not to make a lot of noise. She crossed her arms as she leaned back.

" Are you new to the magical world?" Alyssa asked staring at the girl sitting across from her. It would be very interesting to hear her view on the magical world. She herself came from a long, large family of witches and wizards. She did not know how normal people lived and it fascinated her to the extent where she would do research the history of the normal world. She enjoyed reading about the explorers and the historians who wrote their own thoughts on events that happened in the past.

"Severus"

Alyssa noticed the Slytherin boy enter the library, he seemed out of place, not due to his house but it seemed like he had never been here before, she silently followed him with her eyes as he sculked around in the shelves, finally deciding on a book he went to sit down. She smiled at him as he looked up momentarily, lifting her hand and waving slightly.

"Amaya"

It was tremendous to see so many different types of students in the library. Alyssa's attention fell on the second Ravenclaw girl. She was furiously busy with her quill. She smiled as a thought came to mind. Two Ravenclaw girls, a Slytherin boy and herself being in Gryffindor. It would be such an odd thing to see in the school grounds, this is what made the library amazing, it brought together students from different backgrounds and different houses. She nodded in the direction of the other Ravenclaw student. She was already in over her head. This was out of her comfort zone.

Loneliness followed her around like an old friend ready to receive her.

Severus closed his book. Not because the book was uninteresting. It was very interesting to read about magical creatures. However he had decided that he wanted to try talk to the other people in the library and maybe make friends with them. It was completely out of the ordinary for him. Severus was a shy and quiet boy. He would hardly ever start a conversation with people, but he knew that it would be very lonely to go to Hogwarts without any friends. He would rather endure this uncomfort now than be lonely for the rest of his time at Hogwarts. That would be way worse than talking to people he didn't know, he thought.
He stood up and put the book back in the bookshelf, then walked over to the two people talking. He cleared his throat.
"Hi, i'm Severus. This is my first year at Hogwarts. I'm from the Slytherin house. What are your names? What do you like to do between classes? he asked nervously, stuttering. "Oh god, oh god, why am i doing this?" he thought. "I should have just kept reading. I'm terrible at introductions." "This can't be the best way to talk to people." So many thoughts were racing through his mind that he completely froze.

"Severus"

"Hi, I'm Severus. This is my first year at Hogwarts. I'm from the Slytherin house. What are your names? What do you like to do between classes?" Alyssa smiled as he introduced himself to them. She was surprised, she had yet to actually meet a Slytherin learner. Which was a bit unsettling and she hoped that the rumors that were going around were just spoken by students who did not want to make the time to get to know them.

"Hello Severus, my name is Alyssa, and as you can see," she gestured to the emblem on her chest, "I am in house Gryffindor. This is also my very first year." She hoped that she did not seem too overwhelming. She did not want to make the student uncomfortable, she knew how it felt. She gestured to one of the open chairs. "Would you care to join us?" she asked softly.

This had to be a complete spectacle to observe. The only house that was missing was Hufflepuff. She smiled, how amazing would it be if there were a group of friends and all of them were in different houses. They all might share a love for books and knowledge and that would create a beautiful bond.

Alyssa perked up."Did you know that you share a name with one of Hogwarts' old professors? He was a brilliant potions master. It is going to be one of my favorite subjects." she said, a big smile forming on her lips.

Loneliness followed her around like an old friend ready to receive her.

Amaya watched the boy walk over to them, and sit with them. She wondered if she should do the same. No, they're all talking, don't interrupt their conversation you'll seem rude She wondered if they would reject her asking to sit there, so she stayed where she was. She scooted over a little bit, tapping her quill onto her paper and staring away from them. Should she talk to them? She felt like she seemed rude not to. She thought of what she should say to them, and recited it in her head. Hey, i'm Amaya! Could I sit with you guys, please? She thought if she said that, she would seem dumb. She tried to think of something else to say, and eventually convinced herself to just walk up and ask. Hey, could I sit with you guys? She sounded so normal and not shy in her head, but she knew in reality it would come out different. She stood up, almost tripped, and quickly sat back down. I should really try to talk to them! I'm being stupid! She gathered all her courage, stood up and walked over to their table, with her story and quill in her hand. She stopped at the side of their table, and quietly asked in barely more than a whisper "Hey... um, could I please sit here?". I regret this!! Oh god!!

Amaya

"Hey... um, could I please sit here?". Alyssa smiled up at the Ravenclaw girl, she gestured to one of the open seats. This was becoming a whole group of people. Something Alyssa had never been part of. This was putting her in a very strange situation. She hoped that she seemed confident, it was the complete opposite of how she felt, however.

She felt like it would make things easier if they introduced themselves to one another. At least then they would be on a first name basis with one another and it would make things more comfortable. Even then it would be nice to be able to see someone on the corridor that could be a potential happy face.

"Hi, I am Alyssa, and as you can see, I am in Gryffindor. Came here for a bit of light reading, but it seems like it has evolved into something more than reading." she chuckled as she gestured to the other two who had joined her. She pulled her robes closer to her body, she felt a bit cold. The library was a bit gloomy today. It was a bit dark, some candles were lit but it was not enough to create a warm environment.

Loneliness followed her around like an old friend ready to receive her.
