Though she is thirteen years old, Thora still bears the unmistakable frame of a child, angles not yet fully eliminated with the passage of time. She is both short and light for her age ─ thus smaller than most ─ and is quite skinny, due to both spontaneous lapses of minimal food intake and continuous exercise. Though training as Slytherin's reserve keeper kept her fit and active, not much muscle was gained. It would be suffice to say that she is rather weak, but still, for what she lacks in strength, she makes up in endurance.
The head of flaming red hair she'd had for eleven years or so began fading fast in the autumn of 2019, a clear transformation almost like one reflecting the shift between her carefree childhood and the colder reality of life that unveiled itself in her second year. Now, it is a chestnut brown, though natural auburn highlights may still be apparent in the sunlight. When well maintained, it's quite shiny, though it may appear dull or even a bit greasy when Thora is incredibly busy or worried, for it is in these times that she somewhat neglects her physical wellbeing. She's also allowed it to grow out to mid-shoulder length rather than shoulder-length, though more out of not caring to take the time to trim it than concern about appearance. It's begun straightening itself out from bouncy curls to tamer waves, something which she is incredibly grateful for. While she's now a teenager, she tends to wear the same twin French braids as she did as a young child, though it is also commonly worn down for lack of time.
Through the seasons and years, though, her eyes haven't changed a bit. A grassy sort of green, the shades don't vary much with lighting, always clear and roving, scanning her surroundings. They may, however, appear to sparkle and dull with dramatic ups and downs in her mood. When anxious ─ which is to say most times ─ she takes to biting her lip, pulling the corners down.
Skin tone wise, she is incredibly pale ─ almost unhealthily so ─ further accentuating any blemishes she may have, including the constant bruising from Quidditch practices. She burns rather easily, in a manner that almost suggests her skin's literal unwillingness to tan, but doesn't let the fact stop her from spending much of her summertime outdoors. After a good round of flying, her cheeks are often pink-tinted from the kiss of wind; when frightened, they are even whiter than normal. The splash of freckles which had formerly been extremely prominent year-round has began to fade, though they are still notable and made even darker in the summer months.
Aside from her school robes, which are set upon squared shoulders, Slytherin crest displayed proudly, Thora dresses nearly exclusively casually. Having had the instruction to be practical in everything ─ appearance, included, of course ─ instilled in her for as long as she can remember, she tends towards wearing t-shirts and jeans, or knit sweaters and leggings. Hardly ever does she even consider wearing a dress, for she primarily sees them as unnecessary frivolities. Though her feet are normally clad in sneakers for comfort and convenience, she actually prefers her worn-down combat boots for their tiny bonus of height.
MBTI | Turbulent ArchitectAlignment | Lawful Good Enneagram | 5w6Temperament | Melancholic Committed [ + ]Logical [ + ]Awkward [ - ]Wary [ - ]After two years at a boarding school where relationships are pretty much necessary to remain sane, Thora has gone from socially inept to simply awkward. A childhood isolated in a tiny, out-of-the-way town had thoroughly done its job ─ though she was comfortable with those whom she knew well, or pretty much anyone and everyone she'd ever interacted with in her first ten years or so, strangers were a completely different question. Simply put, she didn't know how to talk to new people. And so, when she'd first arrived at Hogwarts, she was at a loss. Unlike those who were naturally extroverted and unafraid to find their own way, she didn't know where to start. Talking to people scared her, people scared her, and so she simply hid, doing her own thing, rarely going out of her way to speak to anyone.
Her second year did wonders, though, and now, she is quite different ─ in some manners. Though solitude and time with only those she knows well is still Thora's preferred state, she's willing to reach out, making some friends and becoming acquainted with others. Her stutter, previously obvious in her speech, is just about gone, though it might resurface when she is incredibly nervous.
Some things, though, just don't change ─ not much, at least. First of all, all awkwardness isn't gone from Thora's character, and she is often left grasping for words, not sure how to start or continue conversations. She tends to be wary of everyone she meets, not wanting to trust them until they've proven themselves completely worthy of it ─ trust issues would certainly be the correct way to put it. Though the feeling may have begun to ebb away in the summer of 2019, it has returned even stronger than before, especially after all that has happened in the past year, from small hallway mishaps to the Slytherin attack. She's learned that things aren't always what they might seem, and is afraid to entrust herself to the wrong people or things, not wanting to get hurt.
She tends to withdraw completely from everything after drastic things happen ─ the 2019 Masquerade Ball being an example of such ─ and is terribly distant in these times, wanting the time alone to sort through things before facing conversations that will no doubt force her to talk about such subjects.
But like all other people, Thora grows from past mistakes, and has forced herself to calm down a little. Making friends has never been ─ and still isn't ─ an easy feat for her, but she's learned that conversations aren't terrible, and that friends are really an amazing thing to have. Not wanting to displease people, it's even harder for someone to become her enemy; besides, isn't there already enough to worry about without having to watch her back all the time?

Reducio
Thora Coraline Larkston was born on June 23, 2007, to a small, rather poor, but loving Muggle family. Brought up on the far reaches of Dublin, Ireland, she didn't have much experience socializing/interacting with people other than her family and experienced a childhood much different than that of other children her age. Her parents worked around the clock--her mother as an elementary teacher and father as a plumber--to provide for Thora and her little sister, Elizabeth (Beth).
Due to her mild separation from other kids, Thora had no close friends and was very independent. In Muggle elementary school, Thora constantly aced every class and was known as the "goody-two-shoes" and "smarty-pants" of her class. Keeping mostly to herself at school, Thora studied and studied, often pushing herself to her very limits to do her best. Her favorite subject at Muggle school was English, where her imagination could push through and paint amazing pictures through writing. However, she hated history, which she believed was pointless and useless.
First instance of magic -
Thora first discovered her magical abilities at age 8. Her then recently-deceased great-grandmother, whom Thora was very close to, had presented Thora with an expensive silver watch just days before her death. One day, her little sister, Beth, jealous that Thora had received this beautiful watch and not her, stole into Thora's room and stole the watch. When Thora found out mere minutes later, she was furious. Her anger triggered her magic and Thora accidentally caused a full bookshelf flipped over and nearly crushed her sister. Oddly, all the books stayed in perfect order on the shelves. Her parents heard the commotion and rushed to Thora's room, concerned. However, they believed the incident to be a fluke and concluded that the girls must have hurriedly replaced the books themselves. Nonetheless, Thora and Beth were amazed by what had happened and believed it to be magic.
