And so your journey Begins
Reducio
This is my first roleplay Post! Open to one or two others.
They say you never forget the first time you ride the Hogwarts Express. The first time you go through platform 9 and 3/4. How it’s one of the memories that last a lifetime. Terrance was quickly figuring that out. The boy brimming with excitement, almost shaking. A really tall man appearing to be in his early to mid forties and a tall woman an inch shy of six feet stood behind him. Both shared somewhat of a resemblance to him, the tall man especially. “We’ll count down for you and we’ll be right behind you.” He nodded, looking back to his parents, clutching his luggage as close as he could to his chest. “Okay,” he said, closing his eyes.

3...
Going to the other side was easier than he thought it was going to be. He had just slipped through and his parents slipped through along with him. So this was what everyone was talking about? A sense of pride and accomplishment along with his luggage a book bag holding all of his books slung over his shoulder. “Please send us a letter if you need anything.” He nodded and shuffled his feet. “I will, mom.”
Giving them a hug goodbye wasn’t easy. Leaving on the Hogwarts Express wasn’t either. Boarding the train, his heart thumping in his chest. He found a compartment that was empty, sinking into the seat. He couldn’t help but take out one of his books, hoping somehow to get a head start looking at everything. He wasn’t blocking the compartment but he wasn’t exactly expecting anyone to join him. Nobody seemed to pay attention to that compartment before and he was happy just reading ahead a little bit.
Hearing the compartment door open however made the boy a little bit nervous. Eyes still glued to the book, barely paying attention to who had opened the door. Should he have tried to make friends here?

Charlotte stood there, holding her trolley with one hand and her ticket in the other. Her parents looked around the station, hoping to find "Platform 9 and 3/4" in vain. She took a deep breath, trying not to panic: they've been in this station for over an hour now and none of them could seem to find this mysterious platform.
Her sisters, Madeleine and Pénélope, had given up quickly and were now sitting on the floor playing with some rocks they found outside. She glanced at her ticket, wondering if a something could hint them in any direction but all she could see was 'Platform 9 and 3/4' written in gold letters and Charlotte started to get seriously annoyed but was surprised by her mom coming up to her enthusiastically.
'Come on Charlotte. I sink ze platform is over zere.' she said with her heavy French accent.
Charlotte seized her trolley and put her sisters on it before following her parents towards platforms 9 and 10.
'Great mom. And now wha--' she mumbled but was quickly interrupted. Right before her eyes, she saw a wizard holding a trolley similar to hers run into the wall between both platforms before disappearing.
'Darling, it's the third person who runs into the wall, guess we're gonna have to try, huh?' her dad whispered shrugging.
Charlotte hesitated longly before seeing her sister run into the wall and disappearing.
She took a deep breath, closed her eyes and wished for the best. As she opened her eyes, she couldn't believe what was she was seeing.
Amidst the white smoke, she was what looked like a bright red train surrounded by hundreds of students, all pushing trollies and saw hung above the red brick wall :
'Hogwarts Express'
Charlotte felt so relieved and couldn't help but smile as she walked towards the train.
'I'm gonna miss you, sweetheart...' said his dad as a tear rolled down his cheek. 'Don't forget to call me alright?’
Charlotte chuckled 'Dad, phones aren't allowed, and I'm pretty sure there's no internet there...'
Her parents hugged her tight and Charlotte didn't want to let go.
'Gotta go' she said, wiping a tear. 'Goodbye, little goblins !'
She kissed her sisters and got on the train, waving at her parents.
She walked along the corridor, struggling to hold her suitcase up for such a long amount of time. She looked in each compartment as she passed in front of them, sighing as she saw they were all taken. Surely one of them had to empty right ?Well not exactly...
Arriving in front of the last compartment, she held her breath as she slid the door open.
There sat a boy about her age. She cleared her throat and ask awkwardly:
‘Do you mind if I sit with you ? Everywhere else is taken’ and she bit her lip. She always did that when she felt uneasy, and that always went along the nervous hair tucking, which she did.
Her suitcase seemed to weigh heavier and heavier by the minute, she couldn’t wait to put it above the seat and sit in the comfortable-looking seats.

The boy looked at her for a moment, giving her a once over before shaking his head. “No... I don’t...” his posture was stiff as a board. He didn’t seem terribly friendly but he was mostly just wary of new people. There was obviously something guarded about him. And if his posture didn’t say that the tone of his voice said just that.
He went back to his book, mostly just skimming the pages, his wand in his hand. His parents told him if he had any issues to send them an owl. They were always just an owl away. He could do this. He just had to spend 7 years here. Even then there was holidays. His brother! Wouldn’t he be so proud he wanted to follow in his footsteps and was making his first train ride to Hogwarts?
He was quickly zoning out into his own thoughts. Always a series of what ifs and nervous babbling even if nothing actually came out of his lips. When he zoned back in he looked back to the girl who he was afraid was getting turned away by his aloofness.
“Sorry, my name is Terrance and you are?” The boy asked, he was used to the occasional person not wanting to talk to him for how on edge he seemed sometimes. Even if he was just a child. That and the fact that he was always much taller than most of the kids he met. He was already half a foot at least taller than her after all.

Charlotte bit her lip and crossed her legs awkwardly seeing the boy wasn't really thrilled she joined him. She wondered for a moment if she ought to go find an other compartment, but remembered all of them were taken. He didn't seem like much of a talkative guy, but so was Charlotte, although she did sometimes appear as outgoing. She cleared her throat as she look at the countryside through the window. The view really was breathtaking from where they were and all she wanted to do was take a picture.
'Sorry, my name is Terrance and you are?' said the boy as Charlotte jumped, not expecting him to talk at all. She stuttered for a few seconds before handing out her hand.
'I'm Charlotte Cadunt, nice to meet you!' she said enthusiastically.
She took a moment to acknowledge the boy. He seemed much taller than her, than again, she was quite short... Big, untamed ginger curls framed his face, giving him a very friendly face, leaving Charlotte somewhat mesmerized. She quickly looked back into his eyes, trying to start a conversation.
'So, did your parents go to Hogwarts too?'. What a stupid question. Instead of asking about him, she asks about her parents, great. What could she ask? She couldn't just ask him another question, it would just look as if she were interrogating him. As she waited for him to respond, she tucked her hair behind her ear nervously before playing with details of her sleeves.

He didn’t seem to mind her asking about his parents. In fact he seemed to smile slightly, a little wistfully. He already missed the homemade pumpkin pasties, going to Diagon Alley by floo powder with his parents. He already missed the homey atmosphere, listening to his father’s stories of weird patrons and his mother’s of illnesses. He missed his brother when he came home for Christmas. But he wasn’t going to let that ruin everything.
“Nice to meet you too.” He said when she introduced herself, actually shaking her hand politely before he moved onto her question.
“Yeah they went to Hogwarts, what about your parents? Did they go?” If she was a muggle born or a halfblood that would have given him more to ask her. What did muggles do? How did they entertain themselves? What were some of the sweets they enjoyed? To him they were an entirely different species. He’s never seen one before but he’s heard of their superstitious beliefs, the way that they dressed, how their pets were super mundane in comparison. There was just something about him that intrigued him. But he knew he probably would never have the opportunity to meet one. Especially being a pureblood. He was almost hoping the opportunity to know more would be here.

She felt relieved when she saw a smile on the boy's face, but soon realized it was more of a melancholic smile. Did she say something wrong?
'Yeah they went to Hogwarts, what about your parents? Did they go?'
She sighed, happy the boy's answer wasn't 'Yes, but they're dead now...'. Maybe he missed them? She could definitely understand, as she started to realise she wasn't going to her parents for quite a while now.
'No, my parents - they didn't go to Hogwarts, it's really a first for my family and I' she said shrugging slightly, a faint smile on her face.
She now suddenly felt a little overwhelmed by all this. She was going to stay away from her family for the first time, surrounded by hundreds of strangers, without her cat to keep her company, without hearing her sisters chat until late at night... Everything was going to be so new, and Charlotte could feel a lump in her throat.
She gulped and took a deep breath, trying not to have some sort of emotional breakdown right here, in front of this boy, making the discussion very awkward.
'My -My mom went to Beauxbatons, in the south of France and my dad's a muggle, so, uh...'
Why was she so awkward? She usually always had a warm smile on her face, but just this once, she looked like a socially awkward girl.
She got out a small linen bag in which her mother had put a few freshly baked sesame cakes, filling the compartment with this smell she adored. She took one out and handed it to Terrance with a smile on her face.
'Do you want one? They're sesame cakes, freshly baked...' she said before taking her first bite.

Charlotte seemed awkward with him. But he thought that was to be expected. He appreciated that someone was at least trying to make an effort to be his friend. To talk to him. And to him that was already what made someone seem good to him unless they proved him otherwise. Charlotte just didn’t seem like a person who would hurt him or betray him. But he still had to be careful. First impressions weren’t everything.
“So you’re a halfblood? What was it like having a muggle parent? I’ve never met any muggles before.” He says this all quietly, eyes darting around a little bit, trying to focus on her as he speaks but he seems to have relative difficulty with it. But at least he’s trying to engage her.
When he was younger his parents had a hard time getting him to socialize more than a few words at family gatherings, made to wear a suit, hair actually neatly combed for once. For a while his parents thought he was mute since for a few years he mostly communicated with writing and what sign language he had learned from a few books scattered about. But eventually he was coaxed into actually speaking.
“Please, I Uh... I appreciate you... you know... being so nice to me.” He took the offered sesame cake, eating it slowly and carefully. “Then again... every seat is taken, right?” She would have never sat with him on her own accord right?

She chuckled as Terrance seemed very interested about her muggle dad. It was comprehensible, to a wizard it must seem very painful to live a life without magic.
'Yeah, I'm halfblooded ! Well you know, they're not that different from us... Even though magic can make life easier, it has it's inconvenience too. For example they use a phone to talk to each other, they have to cook without the wand. Just everything without magic. It's pretty fun, weirdly...'
'Please, I Uh... I appreciate you... you know... being so nice to me.' he said as he took the sesame cake.
Even though she didn't show it very much, Charlotte was very touched by what the boy had said and a warm smile crossed her face.
'Then again... every seat is taken, right?'. Well, it was now very clear the boy had wished to be alone for this ride. She understood him very well and felt kind of bad for barging in like that.
'Yes, I'm sorry to - to bother you...You seemed pretty nice too, so I thought why not ask.' she said with a slight shrug, biting her lip.
She didn't really what to do or what to say. She figured he knew a bit about Hogwarts and hesitated before asking him.
'So, Hogwarts is a castle too ?' she asked, taking another bite out of her cake. 'My parents never went so I really have no clue what to expect...'

Hearing her talk about her muggle father was interesting enough. Phones? Special technology he’s only heard vaguely of? Fascinating.
He had just finished his sesame cake when she had stated she was sorry. It had always been misunderstandings. But he didn’t dislike her. He didn’t quite mind her company, it was warm. It reminded him of those people who initially seem like sunny days. Such warmth was nothing but welcomed. It was comforting when he was going to be away from home for so long.
He wanted to make her feel comfortable. He wanted to be less awkward and less unfriendly. But it was hard taking a metaphorical wall down and letting people in. It wasn’t easy by any stretch of the imagination but he took a deep breath.
“You’re not bothering... I like your company. Just, you probably wouldn’t be sitting here if there was another seat open, right? That’s what I meant by that. I don’t want you to think I dislike you... or you did something wrong.”
She had done everything right so far. When she asked about Hogwarts he nodded his head. “It’s a big castle, huge actually. You’ve heard about the houses, right?” He assumed she would know something about that though maybe her mother had never told her before since she didn’t experience it herself.

She smiled when he said he didn't mind his company.
'I mean, I don't know. Being alone is pretty nice, but I like being here with you... I passed in front of many compartments where I could've probably stayed, but they weren't -- I didn't really feel like going there.'
Knowing Hogwarts was such a big castle, her impatience to get there grew bigger and bigger. She had heard about the three houses from Beauxbatons and was nicely surprised to see the same system there too.
'I didn't know Hogwarts had houses too. Are there three ? What are their characteristics?'
She felt as if she were already asking too many questions. Which house was she going to be in? Did she fit in any house? How were they sorted? That, she'd rather not know and keep it a surprise.
She looked back at the window, wondering how long the ride was going to be. She couldn't wait to get there and write to her family right away. Her sisters were so curious, and she expected her parents to be too. Charlotte imagine herself in this big castle, surrounded by hundreds of wizards, eager just like her to learn everything they could about magic. Perhaps she could make some great friends there? Maybe enemies? She didn't know.
