BACKGROUND STORY : Picture this : a kind, bright kid, always smiling and polite. His parents couldn't be more proud ! Both of them could tell anyone that Aristide was an example for every kid in the world. Except for a few tantrums.
Hortense was a teacher in biology, Jean was a librarian. They were French, but have moved near Dover fifteen years ago. They had a quiet life : their village was small, and they almost never went past it. This was Aristide little world, where he was considered special by his family and neighbours. Maybe it was his angelic face and the dimples on his cheeks, or juste his very blue eyes. Maybe it was his kind-of-messy hair, that looked like he just went for a run in the fields, or his very polite way of speaking.
The old Bernadette, their next door neighboor, was his favourite person in the world : she used to give him candies, hot coco or let him watch cartoons every time Aristide would visit her. Her door was always open when the little boy would run away from home after being scoled.
To be honest, Aristide really liked the attention. He was good in class just so his parents could praise him in front of guests. He was kind and generous because that was how you made friends that would look upon you as a role model. He knew he was special way before he read the letter. He knew something was up when his F turned into a A. He knew something was up when his favourite lemon tree grew an orange. He knew something was up when his mother's beautiful carved vase repaired himself after he broke it by "accident". Aristide was special, and he'd better be more special than anyone at that magic school.
