Astrid was overwhelmed the moment she stepped into the library. The sheer number of books that stood before her just about blew her 11-year-old mind. Books were one of her favorite things in the world, but she also loved to explore. So explore she did.

The curious girl began to wander the library, searching out every little nook and cranny hidden among the never-ending shelves. She would occasionally pull a book from a shelf, flip through a few pages, and return it to its place. Unaware of the amount of time that had passed, Astrid explored deeper and deeper into the library until when she pulled a book off a shelf, a cloud of dust was released into the air. She coughed and dropped the book which landed with a thud on the floor. Having been snapped out of her thoughts, she finally looked around and realized just how deep in the library she had gone and just how lost she was.

"Huh," she muttered to herself. "This probably wasn't the best plan." She shrugged and picked the book back up. She was not phased in the slightest by the idea of being lost. She got lost all the time but was somehow always able to find her way out. So while she was lost, she decided to make the most of her time and read the book she had already pulled off the shelf.

As soon as she opened the old, faded cover, the wonderful smell of old books hit her nose and she smiled. The pages were brittle and the entire volume was covered in a thick coating of dust. Just how she liked it. So, she settled herself on the floor, leaning comfortably against the bookshelf to read her book until someone else would come along.

[font=franklin gothic medium]Jovie was utterly distressed. Someone had stolen her homework. Either that or she'd lost it but she refused to accept that. She never lost anything, not on accident at least. She always said she did but it was to refuse situations she didn't want to be in. And her homework was due tomorrow so why would she do that?

It had to do especially with a three-page long essay for one of her classes and she had worked hard enough on it that the vein bulging on her forehead was entirely necessary. Whoever the thief was she truly hoped she never discovered who they were or nightmares would look compared to herself.

Jovie stomped into the library, a distraught look on her face. She normally would look just plain angry but this has knocked her clear of her schedule. She really had no time to work on an essay right now, she had so many other things to do. She looked like tears would fall any moment now but she would never cry over this. That's just how she looked like when she was situation close to a mental breakdown. A very bad one.

She made sure to avoid students as she slipped into the library. She stayed close to the walls, heading towards the towering shelves as she went to find a table secluded. An armchair would be great but she definitely needed a table with all the books and paper she was carrying. She finally found one and slammed the items down on the table, sighing as she slumped into a chair.

Rubbing her head, she meant to start working but Jovie realized that a book was missing. Sighing deeply she got up. She was not going back to her dorm. She went back over to the shelves, meaning to score through the books for the one she wanted. She was so lost in thought she didn't notice the foot sticking out, an innocent one.

One minute she walking and the next she was falling. Grunting, Jovie caught herself just in time so the pain wouldn't be so bad and swiveled around. "Pardon," she hissed, as she got up. "But your foot was in the way. Mind if I cripple it for you?"

Astrid was deeply engrossed in her book, enjoying analyzing the ancient literature as she read. In fact, she was so invested in her novel that she hadn't realized that her foot was sticking out into the aisle. Her attention was brought to it quite abruptly when another girl stepped around the corner and tripped over her outstretched leg. She retracted her leg, startled, and lowered her book as the girl picked herself up, whirling on Astrid with a furious look on her face.

"Pardon," hissed the girl. "But your foot was in the way. Mind if I cripple it for you?"

Astrid was taken aback by the anger of the girl. It wasn't a common thing for people to be angry with her, as she spent most of her time away from people, so it took her a few moments to figure out what to say. At first, she wanted to retort with an angry comment of her own since she wasn't much happier at having been pulled out of her quiet reading time, but ultimately decided that it would be best not to start an argument. So instead, she closed her book and stood up. "I'm so sorry about that," she apologized. "And I would prefer to keep my foot uncrippled, thank you."

[font=franklin gothic medium]She glared at the girl with so much furiousness backed up that it startled her so much that she froze in place. She stared at the girl, trying to sort of her emotions for a moment. The missing homework had worked her up so much but it shouldn't have made her this angry. Why did she act this way?

She figured that it had was other things, too. She noted all the other times she felt angry but never let it burst. She always kept herself collected, but maybe this one thing had ticked her off a little too much.

Feeling bad, slightly, Jovie's face melted back into it's usual curious expression, though the hint of irritation still remained with her furrowed brows. She swept her hair back, clearing her throat.

"I guess...it's fine. That wasn't entirely for you, so your foot is pardoned." Her eyes flicked down to the girl's shoes than wandered over to the book the girl was reading. What did the title read?

Jovie shrugged mentally, looking back at the girl. "I should've been more careful, I'm normally not this clumsy. I guess my mind was elsewhere." She pursed her lips and held out her hand. "Jovie Kern," she said, offering her hand for a shake. She hoped that wasn't too weird.

"Are you in Ravenclaw by chance?" Jovie wore a collared button-up shirt, a black skirt, and black Mary-Jane's, the blue knee-high socks the only tell-tale that she was from Ravenclaw. She only asked because the girl's face looked familiar, as if she'd seen her in the Common Room before.

Astrid stared awkwardly at the girl's hand for a moment before finally shaking it. "I'm Astrid Hart. And yes, I'm in Ravenclaw."

She didn't realize how tense her shoulders had been until she relaxed, not nearly as wary of Jovie's anger anymore after the handshake. Somehow, those small introductions had seemed to ease the tension between herself and Jovie. She didn't know if the other girl felt the same way, but it at least allowed her to get more than three words out.

She was wearing her black robe over her other clothes, so she figured her blue tie was not visible to Jovie. She didn't even need to ask if the girl was Ravenclaw as well; she could clearly see the blue knee-highs and was sure she'd seen Jovie in the Common Room before.

She followed where Jovie's glance had gone a few moments before and realized that she'd been looking at the book in her arms, probably trying to see the title which was currently covered by Astrid's arm. She moved her arm enough to show the faded title which read, The Odyssey. She wasn't sure if Jovie was interested at all in Homer, so she decided to leave it at that subtle movement and continue the conversation in a different direction.

"If it makes you feel any better, my mind is always elsewhere so I'm always tripping over people or running into things," she said, trying to lighten the mood a bit.
