Match 1 - Marla vs. Emile
Welcome everyone to the first match of our Duelling Beta Test!
A new Duelling System has been in the making for some time now, and starting today we are finally able to show you what the team has been working on. Places as testers have been offered to the top students of the month of May, of which so far all have taken to the task with great ethusiasm.
We will be playing the test duels with the new 6 Stat System, as some of you may already be aware of. This is a First Year test match, putting the participant's stats to either 30 or 35 points depending on whether the duelists choose to be a special race or not. A minimum of 1 point in Stamina is required, and the maximum amount of points in a single stat is limited to 10. Abilities are not yet included in this test.
Your duellists today are @Marla Quinlan from Gryffindor House and @Emile Yorke , also of House Gryffindor. Please give a hearty round of applause to them as well as the moderator of this match, our Ravenclaw Head of House @Barnaby Ryker !
Both duellists, please post your stats underneath this post so the duel can commence.

THE DUELLING STATS
THE STATS EXPLAINED
For these tests, we will be testing out a new 6 stat system. Please read the details below to understand them.
Stamina: This stat determines a player’s durability. In duels, this will determine a combatants health. This is your health points in a duel.
Evasion: The stat determines a player’s ability to physically react and move quickly. In duels this will determine a combatants chance to dodge an incoming spell. This will help you dodge incoming spells.
Strength: This stat determines a player’s physical ability to hold or lift. This stat is unlikely to be used in duels as the rules don’t allow for physical contact between duellers. This is not currently used in duels.
Wisdom: This determines a player’s skill at spell-casting, accounting for things like correct incantation and wand movement in a duel. This will determine casting success. This will help you successfully cast the spell in the first place.
Arcane Power: A measurement of magical potency. This will determine spell damage. This will determine how much damage your spell does.
Accuracy: A stat which will determine a spell’s chance to make contact with an opponent. This will help you to hit your opponent.
The minimum word count per post is 60 words. You can find your duelling spells here.

The round
Barnaby chewed a bit on the cigar in his mouth as he was standing on the dueling podium. He looked at the crowd of students that were gathering in the old refurbished classroom they were going to use for dueling. He pulled out a folded piece of parchment from the pocket in his dark blue tweed pants and started unfolding it.
“Miss Quinlan, Mister Yorke, get up here...” He let out a stream of smoke from his cigar as he was reading from the piece of paper. Barnaby waited for both kids to get up on the stage before he continued. “I assume you both know the rules, if anyone breaks them i will stop the match and give the rule-breaker a trashing.” He looked from one side of the podium to the other, making sure both understood what he said.
Satisfied with the response Barnaby nodded before walking to the side so the competitors had free sight to each other.
“BEGIN” Barnaby said in the loudest voice he could without shouting.
Marla posts first.

Match 1 - Marla vs. Emile
[quote]Marla Quinlan was in awe. She had learned that she would be starting dueling club around a week ago and had been excited ever since. But now that it was happening for real? She was absolutely terrified. It was one of those things that you know is coming soon but can't actually believe it's a reality. Hell, it was still hard for Marla to grasp onto the idea that she was a witch. Let alone the fact that she was about to duel someone. With magic.
"Miss Quinlan, Mister Yorke, get up here..." The referee, Professor Ryker ordered. Marla obliged, reluctantly walking up to the stage, trying to seem calm about everything. What made it even worse was that she was about to duel a friend. Out of the hundreds of children in this school, she had to duel one of her only friends? The girl's luck was atrocious.
"I assume you both know the rules, if anyone breaks them I will stop the match and give the rule-breaker a trashing." Ryker warned, to which Marla nodded profusely. She turned to Emile and looked him straight in the eyes.
"No hard feelings, right?" She yelled to the boy from the other side of the stage, followed by a nervous smile. Marla was honestly more worried about leaving on bad terms with Emile than losing the duel. He was one of the few genuinely nice people that she had met at Hogwarts, if not the only one. It would be a shame if she lost him as a friend.
"Begin!" The professor yelled, which made Marla jump, startled at the sudden shouting. She pointed her wand at Emile and grimaced, opening her mouth to cast her first spell.
"Incendio!" She yelled, waving her wand in the shape of a blazing flame.

Match 1 - Marla vs. Emile
Like Marla, Emile had also been extremely excited to learn he was able to join the duelling club. For the past couple of days, he had been jumping out of his skin with excitement, anticipating the day he would finally be able to use some of the lovely spells he had learned throughout his year at Hogwarts. Unfortunately, after learning he would be duelling one of his friends, his excitement faltered and he started to feel extremely nervous. Not only was Marla one of his closer friends, but she also seemed to be an extremely strong and bright student. When Emile first met her skipping class, she was extremely sweet, but he also thought he wouldn't want to mess with her. Well, here he was, and he was definitely messing with her.
"Miss Quinlan, Mister Yorke, get up here..." The professor said, which brought Emile out of his dream like state. He perked his head up to look at their referee, Professor Ryker. He was the head of Ravenclaw, and he was smoking a cigar. He seemed like quite the cool professor, but know wasn't the time to be thinking about that. He was about to get his butt kicked by Marla, and that was the thought that filled his head as he walked up to the stage. He smiled weakly at Marla then turned to Ryker. "I assume you both know the rules, if anyone breaks them I will stop the match and give the rule-breaker a trashing." He said, and Emile nodded. Marla looked him straight in the eyes, and he felt his body shrivel like a leaf. His hands started to get shaky and sweaty. He took a deep breath. If your social life is ruined after losing, no hard feelings Emmy. You have your notebook. And you have that rat that's from the kitchens. It's gonna be fine. Maybe you can become friends with the nurse from the Hospital Wing after you get injured from this duel! He thought, walking back to his side of the stage.
"No hard feelings, right?" Marla yelled, and Emile looked at her, not smiling at all. His stomach was turning, but he still looked at her and nodded. He didn't want to speak until he casted a spell out of dear of throwing up. "Begin!" Ryker yelled. That fateful word. Emile braced himself to see what Marla would do.
"Incendio!" The redhead said, casting the spell. Oh god! I'm about to be a campfire! Marshmallows would have been nice. Okay, not the time. Think back to herbology where you learned the fire charm..OH! Emile thought of a spell that might work. "Extinguo!" He said loudly, making a curly w motion with his wand. He hoped this would extinguish he fire charm.

The round
Both duelists shout their incantations.
From one end of the stage Marlas wand spits out sparks hoping to ignite her opponents robes. Emile in perhaps a fit of reaction at seeing flame shouts the incantation of the first spell that first comes to his mind, trying to put out the flame out by extinguishing it.
Emile masterfully spins away from the incoming sparks. The sparks hits the stage where Emile mere moments before had stood, creating a little black patch on the decorated carpet they where standing on but not catching fire.
Marla reactionary pulls away from the incoming spell from Emilie and is not hit by anything. She might have done so by instinct or to mock her opponent as the spell would have done her no harm if it had hit.
The extinguishing charm puts out flame from a selected target. The spell does not target spells in air, but has to be directed at a person/item, so the spell has no effect.
Emile posts first.

Match 1 - Marla vs. Emile
Emile stared at the black spot where he had just been standing, his green eyes opened wide. What would have happened if he wasn't able to dodge that time? Would his robes be on fire? His fair? Would his body be on fire? He shuddered at the thought and looked up at his red headed friend. It was clear she was not messing around, and that meant Emile had to get serious too. Sure, he might lose, but he would sure as heck go down trying his best. He hoped the sacredness on his didn't show too much as he got into another position and prepared to case a spell.
He didn't have much time to think of what he wanted to use, but he also needed to think fast. If he didn't he could easily get almost on fire again. He didn't feel like seeing ash anywhere on his body today, and started to rush ideas through his head. He thought back of what the spells they were able to use were, and quickly chose one that seemed to be a decent idea. The knockback jinx. This could cause damage, and it might also disarm her if her wand fell out of her hand when she got knocked back. On the other hand..he didn't want to harm his friend.
On the other, other hand, she had just tried to set him on fire, so this would be payback. No hard feeling was what Marla had said, and he hoped she meant it. He drew up wand. He pointed it at her chest and did the wand movement. A v with a longer side, then into a u shape all connected. Lastly, he concentrated on her and said the incantation. "Flipendo!" He hoped he wouldn't hurt Marla too much if the spell worked.

Match 1 - Marla vs. Emile
[quote]Marla didn't mean to jump right into the duel in such an aggressive manner, especially with Emile as an opponent! Incendio was just the first spell the girl thought of since she learned it recently and was specifically told that it would be useful for duelling.. After casting the spell, she wanted to apologize but instead she heard Emile yell an incantation.
"Filipendo!" Echoed throughout the room as Emile made a fluid motion with his wand.
Oh no.
What should she do now? Marla didn't have a counter curse for that. Oh, she was doomed.. The only way to fight fire was with fire, and she had to act fast. So she raised her wand again, and after attempting to dodge Emile's spell, she yelled, "Rictusempra!" A spell that would give him discomfort, but not necessarily hurt the boy. It could work. And hopefully, she wouldn't be hurdled into the air. Hopefully.

The round
The two opponents spring into action in the second exchange of spells. Is it Marlas conciseness that get the better of her perhaps? maybe she don’t want to hurt her friend, or maybe the stress is getting to her, no matter what, Marla shouts the incantation, flicks her wand, and yet… Nothing happens.
Emile jumps into action with newfound determination. He flicks his wand and shouts the incantation, and unlike his opponent his spell fires off towards its intended target. It might be the surprise of having her spell fail, or just dumb luck for Emile, but Marla is unable to dodge the oncoming attack. It hits her square in the chest, pushing her back a bit, but Marla is still left standing.
Marla posts first.
