How Fortunate
Euphrasia Destiny Millie was absolutely excited. Her mother was finally taking her to the one place she was destined to find her new best friend; The Magical Menagerie. Millie was super stoked to find a new animal best friend! Whether it be a sleek, shiny cat, or a magnificent owl. Millie wasn't too big on rats, frogs (or toads), or Pygmy Puffs. Though the Puffs were cute, they just weren't Millie's type. Rats and frogs weren't her thing either.
Alas, Millie was also slightly nervous. A big part of her anxiety was simple; what if there were no pets for her? Millie knew it must've been stupid. She was still quite naïve, but it seemed that she would never grow out of it.
Millie would just have to keep her mind focused on her brand new best friend. Any furry mammal would do, but Millie was really interested in the cats. Even though she knew her mother would wish for her to get an owl, Millie just couldn't keep her mind off of a sleek, beautiful cat. An owl with glistening feathers would be lovely as well, but really, she wanted an animal that she could pet. It sounded nice.
Taking a step into the shop, Millie scrunched up her nose. Every inch of the walls were covered in pets, some that yipped loudly, and others that sqauwked and groaned. The Menagerie didn't smell the most pleasant, but Millie knew that having to run a shop with what seemed to be over a hundred animals, it mustn't've been easy to keep it the cleanest. She let her eyes scan the room, the cages that filled the room seemed to be staring back. Or- what was in the cages seemed to be staring back.
Since Millie had entered the Menagerie without the accompany of her mother or father, she bit her lip, and got nervous. She had felt like an outsider, but she had to let that subside. She was going to be okay.
There was an elderly couple tending the shop. The old man, who Millie had seen first, was rather large, and had a slight beard. While Millie herself was tall, this man had to be over six feet! The woman who was cleaning the cages, was shorter than both Millie and the man, but still looked polite. She was opening a cage with a handkerchief.
In a flash quicker than lightning, Millie felt something rush past her leg, and she gave a quiet gasp. Twirling around her pale legs, Millie looked down and saw a beautiful cat walking around her. The elderly woman gave a loud groan of exhaustion and walked over to Millie.
"My apologies dear, Honey here loves to run out when she gets the chance." Millie bent down to the cat, who she guessed was called Honey, and picked it up in her arms.
The cat was positively adorable! It was grey and white, and was purring as Millie kept it in her arms. The cat was purring just enough for Millie to tell. Millie moved one hand and began to scratch the cats head, and she couldn't help but smile. The cat looked to be about a year or so, with energy like a kitten, but with the body of an adult cat.
"What was her name again, Miss?" Millie asked. The old woman gave a smile, "Honey. She's been in here since she was born. Her sisters and brothers got adopted, but she's left. She's a Siberian cat, and is about two years old."
Millie already knew her choice. She didn't need to look at all the other animals on the cages, she kept Honey clutched in her hands, and walked right up to the counter. Millie finally made her choice, with much less fear than she thought.
