Near Curfew
Slightly Chilly, Windy

Marla Quinlan desperately wanted to fly. The almost addicting feeling of soaring through the air with the wind pushing her wild red hair out of her face... Oh, what she'd do just to get a single minute in the sky! Even better, she'd always wanted to be on the quidditch team. Not only would she be able to play her absolute favorite sport, but she'd get praised for it! Nothing could be more perfect than that. The girl slumped down, annoyed, and played with her hair. There wasn't much to do, despite the day being quite nice. . She'd forgotten her book in the common room and it was much too far of a walk to go back now, so there wasn't much to do other than daydream. What a waste of a nice day. The girl longed for something to do. Anything. Even if it meant she'd get detention for life, she'd practically give her life to get the weight of this boredom off of her shoulders.

With a huff of exasperation, Marla got up and stretched her arms as she started to walk towards a tree near the glistening lake. She might as well get comfortable if she was going to be staying by the lake for this long. The small girl slumped down against the tree as soon as she got there and looked up at the star-splattered night sky. She'd never seen anything like it in England, and even where she lived in Scotland. The night sky was one of Marla's favorite things about Hogwarts, it was so peacefully isolating. If only she could grab a star and keep it in her dorm room forever. Or for at least as long as she was there. But Marla couldn't even reach the stars. Another reason to get on a broom right then and there. Even if a broom couldn't take Marla to space, it would get her just a liiittle bit closer, which would make the girl feel all the better.

Marla was hoping someone was out by the lake as well, mostly because she didn't want to coerce herself into doing anything rash. She was already nearly breaking curfew by an inch, and stealing a broom? That would be a death sentence. The girl wouldn't hear the end of it if she got caught. Maybe if she had a partner in crime, though, then she'd probably be able to do something...

Camille opened her eyes and exhaled peacefully. She was sitting on the ground, overlooking the lake's shimmering waters. She reached back and touched her hair, feeling the braid underneath her fingers. A sad smile dawned on her face as, once again, her heart panged with homesickness and longing for her family. She missed them, and she wished more than anything that her little sister, Emma, could be here. She knew the girl would love everything Hogwarts had to offer. She'll be coming next year, Camille reminded herself excitedly. Just wait one more year.

Her mind shifted from thoughts of home to thoughts of her surroundings. The pale sky was streaked with thin orange and pink clouds that gave just enough coverage of the setting sun that the young Slytherin could look at it for a few seconds to observe the way it illuminated the edges of the clouds. There was even a slight breeze drifting through the air. Perfect flying weather, she thought happily. Whenever Professor Jensen announced the Quidditch tryouts, Camille would be one of the first to sign up. She loved the feeling flying gave her. The rush of adrenaline she couldn't find anywhere in the Muggle world.

Once again, her mind was wandering. That was the type of girl Camille was: a bit floaty and often thinking. Sometimes she could be a bit absentminded, but she made up for in loyalty and kindness. Camille closed her eyes and began to hum.

[quote]As Marla enjoyed the beautiful view of the cotton candy colored sky, she couldn't resist thinking about soaring through the pink clouds. What could get more perfect than that? If only the clouds were actual cotton candy. It would be amazing if she could fly up to them and eat... The clouds? Oh, what in the world was she thinking? Marla hadn't eaten anything during dinner, she was too busy binge reading a book she'd checked out from the library, and before she knew it, the food was gone. So it made sense that she was thinking about cotton candy clouds. Despite how weird it was.

Marla noticed something weird moving in the corner of her eye, and glanced over to see another person in the distance. It was quite hard to get a detailed look with the sun in her eyes, so she squinted, though it didn't do much good for her. Maybe it was time for glasses?
"Hello?" She called out, getting up and walking towards the girl as quickly as possible (which wasn't very quick, she had tiny legs). Before getting, well, caught in a stray branch near the tree she'd been sitting on, and did a full-on splat into the ground.

The girl groaned, getting up with a grimace as she wiped the mud off of her face, smearing the residue from her hands onto her now filthy jeans. When she looked up, the girl was right in front of her. It was a Slytherin with sunkissed skin and gorgeous brown eyes.
"I'm... So stupid." She mentioned whilst out of breath from speed walking over to the girl.
"Sorry to disturb you, I was uhm.. Just curious who else would be out at this time." The redhead explained frantically, her face flushed a bright pink, hoping the Slytherin wouldn't be too angry.

"Hello?" called a voice beyond the young Slytherin's vision.

Camille's eyes flew open to spot a girl walking quickly towards her. The fading sunlight illuminated her fiery red hair as she hurried closer, but Camille only got a glimpse of it for a brief moment as the girl tripped over a root and fell face-first into the mud right in front of Camie. She winced worriedly as the girl groaned and got to her feet. A badge with the Gryffindor lion was now visible.

"Are you alright?" she asked quietly, her eyes checking the girl over for any visible injuries. There didn't appear to be any, and apparently, her voice was too quiet, because the Gryffindor didn't appear to hear her at all. Her face was muddy, and she wiped it away with her hand, which then got wiped on her jeans.

"I'm... so stupid." She sounded out of breath. Duh, she practically just raced over here. "Sorry to disturb you, I was uhm... just curious who else would be out at this time." Camie noticed her face was starting to turn a light shade of pink as she the more she spoke.

"Oh. Well, it's just me," she remarked, smiling shyly.

[quote]Humiliated, Marla tried to shoot the girl an awkward smile as she recovered from her fall.
"Are you alright?" The girl had asked. Marla simply nodded, thank god that it'd rained the day before, or she would probably have died. Okay, maybe that's an overstatement. But she'd definitely have a broken nose or something. After explaining why she desperately ran over to the girl, the Slytherin gave Marla a nonchalant shrug and a smile.
"Oh. Well, it's just me," The redhead let out a small laugh.
"Yep. Oh! I'm Marla, by the way." She introduced herself, putting her hand out ofr the Slytherin to shake. The Gryffindor felt so relieved that the girl was nice. At least she wasn't getting yelled or laughed at for falling on her face. That would've been super humiliating. She'd never live it down.
"So, what're you doing out here?" She asked, twiddling with her thumbs. Might as well make conversation if they were going to both be there for a while. Not only that, but the Slytherin did seem nice. It would be a shame if Marla wasn't able to get to know her more. Especially since it seemed that they had a bit in common.
"Not asking to be annoying or anything. I've just never seen anyone else on the grounds this late."
