A Stroll on the Grounds
Saskia let out a sigh as she continued to pace around the field. She had miraculously finished half of her homework for today, but she felt too tired to do the rest. She didn't even feel like running today- there were too many people around for her to to fully utilize the open space. She couldn't blame them, though. The weather was getting warmer, but not too hot that people start burning merely from the exposure of the sun. It was a good day to go outside, whether it was just to get some fresh air, or to hang out with friends, as other people seemed to be doing.
As for Saskia, she was feeling oddly peaceful. Sure, she may have snapped at that smug Ravenclaw who made fun of her for getting the wrong answer earlier in Potions. The Professor had to keep both of them quiet to stop the class from being disrupted. There was also that time when some Gryffindor almost slammed into her while they were literally up in the air in Flying. It was not a pleasant experience, to say the least- she had to quickly swerve in order to avoid being fully hit. She could still remember the sudden adrenaline rush and panic she felt while the Gryffindor tried to apologize in a hurry. But time had passed, and she couldn't care less about what happened. At least for now. But she'd deal with it if it happened again.
Saskia continued to walk aimlessly, closing her eyes as she felt the gentle breeze on her face. It really was nice to be out here, away from everything else. Normally, it would make her feel lonely, especially with the background conversations from the students nearby. But she wasn't too affected, especially now that she's moving farther ahead from those students. She wondered if this was a good thing. Did she really need people to be happy? After all, she had spent most of her childhood going from place to place, making friends, leaving them, and repeating the cycle. It left her content for the most part, but she couldn't help but feel some kind of emptiness when she thought about it. It wasn't something to be sad about. She knew that. But it was something to think about.

A Stroll on the Grounds
Sylvie had exited the castle, heading over to her favorite spot near the Great Lake to sit down. She wore a off-shoulder t-shirt, jean shorts, and a baseball cap with her hair up in a ponytail. She noticed that people were starting to come outside more often now that the cold had mostly gone. Sylvie looked around seeing groups of students hanging out together, talking and laughing.
She felt a bit of longing as she watched a group of girls sit down in the sun together. At Hogwarts, she found herself getting lonely, not because of homesickness or a lack of friends. She had friends, plenty for her taste, but there was something different about her friends here and her friends back at her old school. Her friends at her old school would tell each other everything. It was like having multiple best friends who all cared about each other. No one was left out of any topic. No one felt lonely, we all made sure of that. Sylvie didn't feel as close to any of her friend here.
Sylvie noticed a girl with long brown hair walking in front of her. The wind blew her hair backwards and from the girl's body movements it seemed that she was enjoying the nice weather. Sylvie also noticed that the gi was alone as well. “This could be a chance to make a good friend Sylvie... just be chill about it, don’t make a fool of yourself.” She started walking faster to nonchalantly catch up to the girl. When she’d caught up she gave the girl a friendly smile and said, “Hello! Nice day isn’t it?”

A voice snapped Saskia out of her reverie. She blinked to herself and refocused her gaze. How long did she go around like that? She must have been dreadfully tired at this point if all she did was walk around for who knows how long. In all honesty, it was surprising to her how she lost herself for that long, but maybe it was just a subtle indication that she needed a new hobby. If only she could find any. But now, she was fully alert and awake.
Before she did anything else, she double checked her surroundings. Did she accidentally walk too close to one of the groups of people? No, it couldn't be. She only heard one single voice, rather than the multiple voices she'd expect in those conversations. So it was definitely just one person . Were they talking to her? There was only one way to find out.
Turning around, she noticed a girl with wavy light blonde hair pulled in a ponytail, and the prettiest green eyes she has ever seen. She was definitely dressed for the occasion, with her outfit and baseball cap. At a closer inspection, she noticed some faded scars on her face, but she didn't focus too much on them. Everyone had scars and wounds at one point in their life- and it would have been impolite to stare.
Saskia turned to face the girl and returned the smile. "Yep. The sun's out, for once, and everyone's probably out here to celebrate," she joked.
"Though I'm surprised nobody else is near the lake. I guess they're just waiting until it's actually hot enough to swim without freezing to death," she paused to herself. "But I'm not entirely sure whether that's allowed or not." She shrugged to herself. She remembered seeing some people sitting by the lake, but she didn't remember whether they actually swam or not. Maybe that was just a different case entirely.
"Anyway, I don't believe we've met before. I'm Saskia. What's your name?" she asked the girl, trying to remember if she saw her in any of her classes.

“Yeah, summer seems to be approaching quickly, so soon it’ll probably change from nice weater into blazing hot death, well, if you go outside.” Sylvie didn’t like summer that much, since she did not like the feeling of being sweaty. She always found heat less pleasan then the cold since you can layer up if it’s cold, but if it’s hot you’re stuck since you can only take off so much (especially when you factor in other’s judgement). Sylvie mostly stayed inside and read, or went outside and hosed herself in the backyard at least every 30 minutes to an hour.
Hewo “I’m not quite sure if we’re allowed to swim there or not….. Well, I hope we are! I’d like to have look, even if it isn’t that close, at the creatures that live in the lake. I heard that sometimes the giant squid will come to the shallow and let student touch it’s tentacles! I would love that!” Sylvie beamed as she spoke about the lake and the creatures. She had tried to learn a lot about the lake since she spent a lot of time there, and was fascinated when she learned that life lived within. “Maybe I could see a merperson from afar. I find them very interesting. They… oh wait..” She realized that she’d started to ramble like she always does with things she’s passionate about. “Ugg, she probably thinks I’m a weirdo or something…”
Sylvie’s cheeks turned red with embarrassment, and she said, “D-do you like the lake? I think it’s beautiful no matter the time of year…”
“I’m Sylvie! Nice to meet you!” She started to pace with Saskia so they could continue to talk easily without Sashkia having to look behind her. Sylvie let the wind blow her hair out of her face for her, then examined Sashkia a bit more. She had pale skin and her hazel eyes were alert, probably since she didn’t know Sylvie was there, or knew but hadn’t expected her to speak.I’m Saskia. What’s your name?

“Yeah, summer seems to be approaching quickly, so soon it’ll probably change from nice weather into blazing hot death, well, if you go outside.”
Saskia laughed. "I mean, when you put it that way, you make it sound like summer's an inevitable apocalypse that will slowly kill every living being who goes outside. Really, it's just better if you stay in the shade. That way, there's less chances of getting scorched to death while still enjoying the outdoors." She subtly winked at the girl for emphasis. As much as she loved going outside, she really hoped this summer wouldn't be too hot. Excessive heat was always suffocating, and it only made her way hotter and dehydrated than she should have normally been.
She listened to Sylvie talk about the lake. She had listened to rumours about it from other people, but she hadn't seen actual proof of them being real yet. She had hoped she would be able to confirm it for herself, and now that she was actually at the lake, maybe she could. She still needed Sylvie's confirmation beforehand, but even if she didn't want to, she could always do it in her own time when there were less people around.
"I've heard about them. It'd be cool if we could actually see those creatures. Imagine being able to talk to them! I mean, we probably wouldn't be able to understand each other, but it's the thought that counts, I guess." She grinned eagerly. Her grin slightly dropped when she saw Sylvie trailing off. Saskia was genuinely interested in having to hear what the girl had to say next, and even if she wanted her to continue, she had already changed the subject.
“D-do you like the lake? I think it’s beautiful no matter the time of year…”
Saskia nodded, her smile growing back. She had to agree with her- the lake was always nice to look at. She couldn't decide whether the lake was better during the day or the night- both the sunlight and moonlight managed to illuminate the waters that made it look enchanted, in some way.
"Yeah, it really is. I think there's some kind of interesting history behind it, even if we ourselves might not truly know what it is. Plus, with what you mentioned, there may or may not be sea creatures lurking about the water, which makes it even more intriguing."
Saskia paused for a moment, a small mischievous smile forming on her lips as she thought up an idea. "That being said, care to test that theory out? I'm pretty sure we're not allowed to swim there, but I don't think it said anything about touching the lake itself."

Sylvie giggled. “Well, the shade and a pound of sunscreen might be able to prevent death from the summer apocalypse.” To Sylvie, summer approaching did feel like an apocalypse drawing nearer and nearer. Well, at least she would get to see her sister during the summer. Hopefully she didn’t want to go to any beaches anytime soon since beaches were the things Sylvie hated he most about summertime."I mean, when you put it that way, you make it sound like summer's an inevitable apocalypse that will slowly kill every living being who goes outside. Sylvie beamed at Sashkia as the other girl talked about the lake’s creatures. It seemed like she too was fascinated by them. She also seemed to like the lake as much as Sylvie did. When Sashkia asked about going to touch the lake, she nodded excitedly with a wide smile on her face. “Sure! I don’t think it could hurt to dip our toes in as long as we don’t actually go into the lake. Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to see something!” She surprisingly hadn’t actually touched the lake, even after all the time she’d spent near it. Well, it would’ve been impossible or extremely unpleasant to dip her feet in when the lake was frozen over, which wasn’t too long ago since the lake had only recently thawed out. Sylvie knew that when she went to the lake, there would most likely be no creature sightings, but she was still excited by the fact that Sashkia and her seemed like compatible friends

“Sure! I don’t think it could hurt to dip our toes in as long as we don’t actually go into the lake. Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to see something!”
Saskia grinned back at the girl. She wasn't sure whether Sylvie would have actually taken her offer up, but it appeared that asking her was the right choice, especially considering how equally eager she was at the opportunity to see whatever was under the Great Lake. She wasn't sure whether they would actually be able to see the lake creature, or if this would go terrible wrong instead, but at least it would make for an interesting learning experience, and maybe a good story she could share with her family during the break. It wasn't like they would land a detention if they were careful enough, anyhow. All they were trying to do was confirm that there was a lake creature somewhere in Hogwarts. They wouldn't try to hurt it or anything, or cause any other trouble by checking.
"Great! Let's go over there, then," she said, not even bothering to hide her excitement as she started walking over to where the lake was.
Today was starting to look a little brighter, seeing as she met a new potential friend and was about to potentially see the creature beneath the lake. Even if they didn't see anything at all, Sylvie was nice, and someone she would want to be good friends with. She may have been shy at first, but Saskia could see that there was definitely more to her than meets the eye. For now, all she knew was that she didn't like extreme heat and that she liked the lake, but that could change over time.
