Wand Ceremony
Aubrey had just gone through platform 9 3/4 at Kings Crossing where she said goodbye to her mother and father. Aubrey’s mother was a witch so saying goodbye to her was much less difficult than it was with her father. Her father, Henry, was a muggle and therefor could not go through the platform- at first he was frustrated due to him not being able to go through the platform to watch his daughter board the train, but her mother managed to change the subject as they double checked Aubrey’s luggage before watching her disappear in a blink.
Now, Aubrey was standing in front of Ollivanders, the infamous wand shop in Diagon Alley that she had previously read about in ‘A History of Hogwarts’. Her hand shook, a wand in a way define the witch or wizard who held it. Aubrey took a deep breath before she opened the door, a small creak being the only sign of her presence in the store. Suddenly a voice came from one of the aisles in the back of the store, in the shadows.
“Ah miss Lovecharm..i’ve been expecting you.” An old man emerged from the back. Aubrey had expected Ollivander to be much older than he appeared. She looked at him in surprise. “You have your mothers eyes.” He commented as he looked Aubrey over, as if examining her. “Powerful eyes.” He spoke as if he was lost in his own thoughts. He quickly came out of his thoughts as she brushed his hand in the air, waving off his comment before he turned and started walking down one of the aisles and stopped a few feet away from Aubrey. She didn’t know if she should follow or not so she stayed in her place at the front of the store. Shorty he returned with three long rectangular boxes. Each one had a different enscripture with the name, core and length of the wand written in cursive on the side. “Your mother had unicorn hair, here you go girl- take this, give it a try.” He said a he handed the wand to Aubrey. Aubrey smiled, the wand felt good in her hands. However when she flicked her wrist, it unfortunately caused ink to explode from a container that was on the front desk. Aubrey quickly dropped the wand back into the box, as if the wand had bit her. “no worries dear, it is uncommon for the first try to be the right one”.
He handed her another box, unlike the other boxes this box was black, with golden lettering that was engraved into the antique box. “Aspen wood and phoenix feather, 10.1 inches.” Ollivander said with an admiring smile as he looked over the wand in the box, then handed it to Aubrey. “Beautiful wand, for a beautiful young witch.” He said with a nod as she took the wand from his hands. It felt as if Aubrey had touched a balloon that had an immense amount of static electricity, a tingly feeling formed in Aubrey’s finger tips. As the tingling began to grow, a glow began to shine from the tip of her wand. A wind tunnel formed in the room around Aubrey as the glow became brighter and brighter. “Ah it seems it has found an owner!” Ollivander spoke with a surprised laugh. Aubrey smiled, the feeling she had- she couldn’t articulate how she felt, but she felt powerful, and at the same time she felt a sense of belonging. It was in this moment that she started to get excited for Hogwarts, as well as a little nervous.
