Finn found himself in the owlery, a promise echoing through his mind - a promise he had made to his youngest sister, Shelby, before he'd departed for Hogwarts. He remembered her big blue eyes looking up at him, filled with pure naive love and adoration. He'd vowed to tell her everything that went on at Hogwarts after he left, and he intended to keep that promise. By the time he graduated Hogwarts, Shelby would be the age Finn was when he'd discovered his own magical abilities. Being absent from her childhood for the majority of each year was going to be tough on him. If he was able to give her a small piece of his life, he would.
He withdrew the neatly-folded letter from his pocket and unfolded it to re-read it one last time.
To My Dearest Sister,
Firstly, hello, mum - I know you'll be the one reciting this letter to Shelby. I imagine she'll be snuggled up in your arms on the couch. I know you're probably tired after your shift - I love you so much. These letters, though intended for Shelby, go out to you as well.
Hogwarts is just as incredible as I had suspected. I haven't been here long, but an entire new world has opened up to me. There are so many things beyond description that you would not even begin to fathom. There are portraits strung along the stone walls - but the portraits are alive. The people inside them can talk to you, I sometimes even chat with them a bit before class. One of the house's common rooms are hidden behind one of the portraits, but I'm not allowed to go in there.
I've met some incredible people in my short time here. For starter's, my best friend's name is Markus Alberdale. He is a Slytherin (you remember what that is, right?) but he is so incredibly funny, sweet, and silly. I've made another friend here - a girl named Illowy, who also happens to be a Slytherin. I'm still in the process of making more (I've even joined a club!) but as a first-year, the entire world feels open to all sorts of possibilities right now.
I know life is difficult back in England. I am studying to be the best Wizard I can possibly be to make you guys proud. Mum, you've taught me the true value of hard work and dedication. Thank you so much.
And Shelbs, don't let this get you down. Try not to feel left of this magic business. Magic is all around you, whether or not you can see it. Please hold it inside of your heart.
