An Interesting Place to Meet PV Closed

The time for Finn to start attending classes was drawing nearer by the day, and he was intent on being as prepared as he possibly could. Going through each subject individually, he had been slowly and deliberately scanning through as much information as his brain could muster. He had just finished potions, and he was now moving on to Defense Against the Dark Arts. With three hefty books in tow, he made his way back to his favorite reading area of the school - one which he had found entirely on accident - The Abandoned Toilets on the second floor.

Finn had been reading in the Abandoned Toilets for a few days now, and while he'd had a couple interesting encounters with other students, he had yet to experience any of the rumors he'd heard about the toilets. He was grateful for them, however, as most students steered clear - the only ones who'd occasionally barge in were giggly students on a dare, or one tough wizard who wanted to impress some of his buds. This made for a relatively quiet and peaceful area where he could devour knowledge without interruption.

His lanky frame wobbling a bit under the weight of the books, he pushed open the door with the tip of his untied shoe and disappeared into the bathroom. He set his books on the linoleum gently (he had learned that dropping them created a monumental banging sound that attracted students' attention) and set up his little corner to begin digging in.

SAY IT AIN'T SO!

OH, OH, SAY IT AIN'T PANCAKE FLIPPIN' SO!

"Oh, what the heck," scoffed a tiny voice. Small hands pressed their palms to the large doubled doors that lead into yet another uneventful hallway of stairwells and bumbling ghosts. Boots wandered over the long cherry rugs that decorated the floors of the halls, and a wand had itself nestled in the small hand of a puffing first year.

If he remembered correctly, the rumored bathrooms should be on the second floor. After much thought, a bit of a turn around, and a retracing his steps, Warren found himself completely and utterly lost! He paused in his walk and turned himself around a few times. His feet shuffled and his hands wiggled at his sides, wand having been slipped away into the shadow of his sleeve. Where on earth, he thought with an unsure frown.

Gasping, Warren whisked around as he heard shuffling in the distance. Footsteps? He grabbed at his robes to lift them from his feet, as he took off in a jog toward the corner of the hallway. Right as he had done so, Warren noted that a flicker of robe disappeared into a doorway...

Eyes widened like dinner plates, his fingers holding the underside of his glasses as he tip toed toward the peculiar door that didn't quite shut all the way. From the looks of it, it might never close correctly, as it was completely mysterious and EXACTLY what he has spent the last hour looking for! Excitement bubbled up in his chest, but a pocket of worry tickled at his throat. Had his brothers been right, then there must be something horrendous in this bathroom, right? Swallowing back a small seed of doubt, Warren pushed his hands at the door, his unruly head of blondes and a peaking strand of white poking into the shadowed toilets.

The light from the hallway gave the small Slytherin an intense orange glow that clashed with the blue undertones that ghosted from the eerie bathrooms. His eyes widened as he stepped inside a few more steps and placed his hand to the door to close is as best it could. Hands busied themselves behind his back, and he tilted his head from side to side as he took a few careful steps toward the peculiar sinks.

Their shape was obscure, strange, and creepy. No single sink was clear as each one had a fine coat of its own filth and grime. The vivid green in his eyes dulled with the grey tones that lit the room, and he held onto his own sleeve as he reached forward and pulled on a faucet. Nothing.

"Bugger... Horrendous," he whispered. Warren took his hand back and slipped both arms into his sleeves where he deemed it most safe. Curiously, the boy remembered that not even moments before someone had come sneaking in here before him, but where were they? His brows furrowed as he turned around and gave the whole bathroom a once over, but then he paused and merely stood in a lasting silence.

...

Page rustling.

His twitching smile became a touch less nervous as he shuffled around the sinks and found a pile of books resting on the glass. Adjusting his glasses, Warren placed his palm down on the stack and then leaned forward offering a bright and friendly grin toward the boy who was apparently too busy with his nose stuck in a book. He couldn't even see who he was much less what he was up to!

"Pardon me? Are you studying?" Color him surprised.

"And so he was reading the story as if it were a spell and the words of it, spoken aloud, could make magic happen.”

Finn's index finger gently trailed along the words as he internalized him, skimming the waters of knowledge that flooded into his subconscious and pooled inside of him, locked up safely and stored away for later. That is, if the glimmer of knowledge he was reaching for didn't sink to the bottom of the ocean of unrelated factoids. Which often seemed to happen to him.

Finn's knees were tugged snuggly against his body, his back resting comfortable and firmly to the coolness of the walls. He kept his book of choice balanced on top of his knees with his hands to hold it steady and left the stack of others waiting near him, almost begging for him to rip open and digest hungrily. Finn disappeared when he was reading - a dragon very well could have burst through the stone wall and it would register to him as a pin drop.

This is why Finn did not notice when the Slytherin male meandered into his sanctuary, nor did he look up as the intruder sifted through the room as if he were looking for buried gold. He only became aware when a question was posed directly at him, snapping him from his trance and tearing him from the world of besting werewolves. His sapphire eyes elevated themselves above the cover of his book, eyebrows raised in question of who could be directly speaking to him.

Finn recognized the boy from passing, and from the flying lessons they'd attended earlier, and it took all he could muster not to eye roll. If he recalled correctly, he was rather.. difficult to understand. "Yes, I am studying." How else was he expected to reply to such an obvious question?

Is that... IT IS!

"Finn the Hufflepuff! The gusty guy!" Warren clapped his hands together as he quickly recalled where he'd seen this boy from. The back of his head wasn't so easy to decipher, but upon seeing those curious eyes and the tell tale signs of Hufflepuff housing the pieces weren't difficult to put together.

Taking matters into his own hands, Warren grabbed hold of his robe and hiked it up a bit before he plopped down into a squat next to the boy who had been in a whole other world a few seconds before. Whatever he was reading must be fantastic, and Warren wanted to bite at the proverbial hook. Plus, out of a lot of kids he'd met so far, Finn was one of the few to not blow up on him after he spoke a few times.

That was progress.

"Studying, yes, but what? Scratch that, actually," he paused and waved his hand in the air to dismiss his question before starting a new one with wide eyes, "What are you doing in here?! You realize what these bathrooms are, don't you? They've a wicked history. Might I add that there was once a prickly ghost who used to haunt these stalls."

Again, he paused and collected his thoughts before dropping down on his rump with a thud. Letting out a long sigh, Warren stretched out his legs, boots displayed outward, and his hands resting limp in his lap. Turning to look at Finn the smaller of the two boys said, "Out of all the cliche things I could be doing, my brother, Will, dared me to come find this place and he'd give me a box of candy. Can't say it was worth it in the long run, but then I saw you!"

He wiggled his arms in the air and let out a boyish laughter that sprinkled with innocence. He was a rambunctious boy, a weird boy who spoke like a pretentious adult, but he was more than meets the eye. Giggles subsided and he gently elbowed Finn while grinning. Snickering, he copped out, "If we keep bumpin' into each other we're gonna end up becoming friends, you know."

"And so he was reading the story as if it were a spell and the words of it, spoken aloud, could make magic happen.”

Gusty? That was a word nobody in the world had ever used to describe Finn before. Finn wasn't at all surprised when Warren began to blabber about what had landed him in the bathrooms - just as Finn had suspected, he was yet another student trying to prove their worth by exploring the creepy bathrooms. Once more, Finn again wasn't surprised once Warren plopped down as if they'd done this before, or something. Warren always managed to seem so... familiar with every situation he was placed in.

"Sorry to burst your bubble, but I read in here nearly every day and I've never ran into anything spookier than the spider that lives in the third stall," Finn said to the boy, folding up the book and tucking it next to him as he figured Warren wasn't moving any time soon. Despite Finn's.... annoyances when it came to Warren, he couldn't help but smile when Warren brought up becoming friends. If Finn was down for anything, it was for making friends.

"Well... nevertheless, you did find it." Finn pointed out. "Therefore, you should be getting your box of candy." He finished this with a devilish smirk, and briefly wished his own siblings were with him at the school.

EVERY DAY?!

His eyes widened upon learning this little fact about Finn. Not only was he brave, but he was blissfully unaware! Warren seemed to admire this newfound trait of Finn's, and he let out a childish laughter that rang throughout the eerie stalls. His eyes widened as the sound echoed back, and he tugged on his sleeves while swirling his eyes toward the high ceilings that seemed to stare back at him...

"Oh my goodness. This place is surely to give me a heart attack," he whispered as he held his fingers to the rims of his glasses and eyed Finn with a spooked smile. As Finn had suspected, Warren seemed to exude and aura of familiarity with the young Hufflepuff. His hand rested in his lap as he wiggled his feet from side to side, and he seemed to relax in the presence of his fellow first year.

Despite being such a riddle tongued boy, Warren was especially unaware of his actions around others. To him, he was doing nothing more than making merry friendships as he studied with vigor. Suddenly, a small laugh bubbles up, and he bashfully hides it behind a hand and looks at Finn with a jolly twinkle in his curious green eyes.

"Brilliant, Finn, but consider the thought that not everything is as it seems. A spider might not be your greatest fear, but maybe someone else would see one and think it's the end of the world. Ghosts, ghouls, imps, and so on and so forth," he paused and looked at the boy beside him with a brief sense of astonishment. Nervously, Warren seemed to clam up and scratch his cheek with a small finger.

"Apologies; I don't mean to ramble or sound strange," he says quietly. Shaking his head, he beams and offers a pump of his fist in the air. His teeth flash in a grin and he lets out a small sound of excitement.

Overjoyed, he exclaims, "He'd better give me my candy! Willy never goes back on his promises! Unlike freakin' Ed. He can be quite rude, that one."

Just how many brothers does this boy have...?

Finn almost laughed at how wigged out Warren was - this was Finn's favorite place in the entire school, and it seemed to cause Warren to act even slightly more bizarre than usual. Finn was now a bit more used to Warren's behavior, he found, and he was actually quite interested in the ramblings he exploded into, actually finding Warren's statement about fears to be rather eye-opening.

Finn was surprised at the odd behavior Warren exhibited next - one that didn't seem to be caused by the prospect of a ghost but of Finn himself. "You're not strange!" He shouted suddenly, immediately blushing  deeply in the realization of how loud and sudden the outburst was. He cleared his throat and quickly changed the subject. "Oh, how many siblings do you have? I got three young ones. I write them letters and such." Finn's voice broke just slightly in the sentence, tangible proof of how much Finn missed his family. He kept his expression normal and hoped it would distract from his audible sadness.

While they sat together on the floor, alone for the first time since they'd met, Finn took a moment to examine the boy well. He noted their stark similarities - similar untamed hair, general untidiness - and their extreme different, the height. Still, Warren's eyes held a great deal of excitement behind them, and his lips seemed to always be slipped into a grin. Overall, he generally liked Warren, he decided then. Finn wasn't in the business to judge someone for being a bit too eccentric. Especially since Finn actually enjoyed it secretly. Perhaps he had just been shy.
