[font=times new roman]Vince stood with her sisters Malina and Ammy. Today was there girl's day out, and it was decided unanimously—really Vince didn't feel like voting so she just stood there—that they'd go to this semi-kid festival full of people dressed just like characters from fairy tales. Last year Vince would've been the first person to suggest going, having had her costume and activities all figured out, but between this year and the last a lot of things had changed, and Vince was and never would be the same. She seemed to mature but it an unusual way, like she was just a grim version of herself who had nothing to do except live, even if it was in such a grim way.
At the moment she was waiting in line for rainbow cotton candy, wearing a sparkly purple tutu over a casual outfit of short overalls, white sneakers, a green tank top, and a cat-earred purple headband. She was seven years, Malina was fourteen, and Ammy was three. Both of her sisters had dark red hair while she had dark brown. She only shared the same dark brown eyes, but other than that she looked like a distant cousin.
Finally it was their turn. Vince stayed behind them both, hands stuffed in her pockets as she looked around. Personally she only like the cherry flavored sweets, but she knew that Malina would make her get the same one her sister wanted, because for some odd reason the little girl looked up to Vince like a good, following her every move. Or nearly every one, she was wearing a princess costume, specifically a Snow White one, and everyone cooed at her, asking if they could steal a kiss. Vince inwardly cringed.
“ I want the BLUE one! ” Ammy jumped up and down, pointing at the exact one that she wanted like everyone else was colorblind.
Malina frowned. “ No, you're getting the rainbow one, like you asked. ”
“ But I want BLUEE... ” Vince watched her lip puff out and her eyes start to tear up. She wondered why it really mattered that her sister just wanted a different one, it was all the same price anyway, unless she changed sizes. But she knew that Malina didn't like when people did that, making choices without good reasoning, even if the person was her own sister who couldn't even count to three.
Vince looked away, suddenly having the need to use the bathroom. Well, not really, but she didn't want to be around a meltdown, with a bunch of people staring at her and her sisters, specifically herself. Eyes made her uncomfortable when they weren't her own.
Tapping her sister on the shoulder, Vince asked her sister if she could go. After making sure it wasn't too far, she exasperatedly nodded and went back to scolding Ammy, who was more than upset that she still had to get the rainbow. Vince noticed the look Malina gave her, like it was her fault that her sister changed her mind. Vince didn't even want the cotton candy.
Going into the restroom, which was slightly crowded because of people wanting to avoid the hot sun, Vince went into a stall to relieve herself. She stayed inside for a few extra minutes than she needed to, just to lengthen the time. She listened to people gossip, some of the stories interesting while others were more boring than anything she knew. She figured it was adult stuff that she didn't care about.
When she finished she left the stall, washed her hands, and left the restroom without drying her hands all the way. Wringing out her hands, Vince scanned the area; she immediately noticed something was wrong.
Not one to panic, Vince stood very still, close to a wall, and looked once more. No. Her sisters were gone.
She had no clue where they could've gone, or why they would've gone without her. Well, a number of scenarios already began to pop up in her head about what could've happened, but she was too focused on what she was supposed to do now that she had nobody taking care of her. She was a lost child.
Vince licked her lips and covered her forehead; the sun was really beating down on her. She knew she needed to either keep moving or find some shelter before she overheated, which would complicate things even more.
She was walking for a while, looking in places they'd been but she couldn't find her sisters anywhere. As she walked pass a window she saw her reflection, her face tanned and covered in sweat. She felt so uncomfortably hot and thirsty. She just wanted to jump in a lake, even if for just a second.
A pained expression covered her face and Vince went to take a seat at long, wooden table, a family occupying one end. She faced away from them but her face got exposed to the sun do she turned forward and rested her head in her arms. She was cooling off, bit by bit, but she had a growing feeling of fear as the idea of being lost became scarier in her mind.
