29th of December 2018, Delilahs Village (or thereabouts)
"Granny I'm away for a wander, I'll be back in a bit!"
"Aw' right dear, take your scarf, its cauld oot."

The newly 13 year old Delilah Stewart complied with her grandmother's wishes, on her way out of the front door of their quaint cottage she pulled her purple hand knitted scarf off of its peg and around her neck. The door was promptly shut behind her. The village was small, very small, to the point where coming home from the grand castle that is hogwarts could sometimes feel suffocating, she felt like Belle from Beauty and the Beast, but less french. The village was silent that day, everybody still inside hiding from the weather, it had only stopped the terrential rain a couple days prior, bucketing it down over majority of the Christmas break. The due to the hills surrounding the small area, in the village it could sometimes flood, or create a wind tunnel like affect, to the point where wee Delilah couldn't move very far without a struggle.

Her shoes tapped off of the cobbled pathways, around bends and through streets she had been through many times before, the familiar place she called home. However she decided to leave for a bit. Soon she was at the edge of one of the smaller hills, she began to scale it slowly, tripping every so often on the soft dirt. By the time she reached the top, the knees of her jeans had become muddy and brown, not the most pleasing of colours. She looked out over the seemingly endless grass down below, fields upon fields, all empty either due to it being a bad season to grow crops or it was too cold for the animals to be out. All her time in hogwarts so far had felt like an absolute dream, like she could wake up someday and be back to the normal girl she felt like she was, like it could all be reversed.

All of the friends she had made had helped her so much, some of which had seen her through some of her worst times so far, she would forever be grateful for them and the happy memories would forever stay with her. She looked back at the village, no more than 30 buildings, probably less, only the basic amenities provided, if they needed more they would have to go over the hills and down to the town that was about 2 miles from the closest hill, didn't help that nobody in the village drove because there was no space for cars, it was actually like the village in Beauty and the Beast, but as I said, less french, more Scottish.

She could get so bored, her constant studying, especially when she was at home as she had nobody to talk to. Her Granny had told her other Granny friends I had been sent to some fancy boarding school far away for the excellent children or whatever. She wished she could tell people about the wonders of magic but alas it didn't work like that.

He was alone, sitting on a hill. Preparing to take a nap, because, quite frankly, he didn't have much else to do. There were plenty of rabbits to hunt in Scotland, and the cold never bothered him enough to be very much of a problem. Sure, he hated it. Was uncomfortable and had trouble sleeping. But not enough for him to stop sleeping in the open, curled up in a little ball wherever he though was safest.

He had started to take naps in the day when it was warmer, using the nights to move about and hunt, the exertion keeping him a little bit warmer. Every little bit helped, after all. His plan was to live out here, at least until he was able to return to hogwarts. He found himself missing the warm bed in ravenclaw tower. Missing the food scraps he'd scavenge from the great hall right before the meal was over, when most of the students had already left.

But he didn't let himself miss any of it very much, his mind was too focused, too wild to long for something, unless it had leisure time. And right then, it had a lot of leisure time. Or at least it did until he saw a little girl about his age coming over the hill. In a flash, he stood up, almost reeling over backwards when he did so. He didn't even know what to say, she had clearly already seen him. He hadn't talked with anyone in so long it felt a bit alien to see someone that might actually bring up a conversation.

The emaciated boy stood there, and stared, unsure of how else to react.

In the midst of Delilahs thoughts while standing awkwardly on the top of the hill, she had missed the boy that was actually surprisingly close to her. When she finally did notice him she jumped with fright. She recognised him from her time as prefect, but his name slipped her mind. Did she ever even know his name? He was definitely memorable, his scarf, his burnt hair, the fact that he looks like he has never slept in his life. Definitely memorable. He looked surprised to see her too, but it was unlikely that he remembered her, she wasnt quite as memorable.

"How long have you been there for?" She asked carefully, she had heard stories of this boy, how he was crazy, people didn't seem to like him. She couldn't say she wasn't a little scared because of all the rumours but she didn't want to let them stop her from talking to him. "Wait... Why are you here? I didn't think other people like... Us even lived here, I thought it was just me. How have I never seen you here before?" Ladies and gentlemen, the rambling has begun. She looked at him confusedly, she had lived in that village all her life and had never seen him outside of hogwarts.

"I don't know."

He had never been especially good at times. It wasn't easy for him to track how long it had been, how much time had passed, or anything of the sort. The fens didn't really have night and day, just cold and colder. And as that was highly variable, it was almost impossible to decipher what time of day it happened to be. So, with the years, his brain had just stopped trying to keep track. And even now that he was in full view of the sun, and should be able to learn, he just... didn't.

"Oh, I don't live here. I'm just passing through. You haven't seen me because I don't get seen, I think."

It was pretty odd logic, but it made sense to him, in a way. If you didn't get seen, people didn't see you. And vice versa because of a universal decree of math, or something of the sort. That was why animals thought that if they couldn't see you, you couldn't see them. It was math's fault, and no one wanted to admit it.

That was probably why he didn't like math much. Because it tricked you with universal decrees that turned out to be lies.

She found it a little confusing how he didn't know how long he had been there, but shook it off.  She looked off into the distance once more before he started to talk again and she turned her head to him again.

"What do you mean you don't get seen? You're visible to me."

She squinted a little as she thought about it, he had royally confused her, which was easy to do to be fair, and he managed it. "Do you even remember me? We were prefects together at summer time, we never actually talked though."

She tried to remember his name desperately but she still couldn't, fishing around in her memory like it was a bowl of sweeties but you are looking for that one piece of a Terry's chocolate orange, but who are we kidding, who ever puts a chocolate orange in a bowl, they are too expensive to just have sitting around the house.

She just noticed this was one of the first times she had left the house without a book in her hand, it was like she had expected to meet somebody, but that was also a first. "Anyway, if you don't remember, I'm Delilah." She smiled at the boy kindly as she spoke, as she did with everybody.

"I know I'm visible. I forgot to not be, it won't happen again."

He wasn't really thinking straight, his mind didn't want to work. It was clouded and fuzzy, and devoid of any substantial markers. How long had he been where he was? How many days had be been out here, weeks? No, not weeks, he would be a lot hungrier. It didn't matter much, anyway. She was asking if he remembered her, said she worked as a prefect same time he did.

"No, you weren't important enough to remember."

It was an insult, to be sure. He had told the girl that she wasn't important. But the boy didn't see it as an insult, he saw it as telling the truth, and nothing more. Nothing with negative connotations, anyway. Why would she be mad about something someone she had never talked to said about her? She wouldn't, plain and simple. People didn't get mad about things like this. That would be stupid.

"What protections does this place have."

No one else but her was here? That had to have some kind of reason, right? It probably meant a marginal amount of temporary safety he could take advantage of. Or at least he hoped that was what that meant.

"You... Forget... Not to be visible?" She asked confusedly, how can you forget to be invisible.... How can you be invisible in the first place? Wow this boy was confusing. Genuinely baffling. As a breeze came by she tightened her scarf around her neck for a moment, it was pretty cold, after all it was winter time, not quite cold enough for snow but frost was evident on the grass around them.

"Ouch. Harsh much?" She said when he had replied that she was unmemorable, "Maybe I was just too important to remember huh?" She shot him a sly smile, "Ever think about that?"

For a moment Delilah also thought about how much more open she had become in the past year and a half, when she first went to hogwarts she would have never in a million years said what she just had said. "Sorry." She mumbled, the smile dropping off her face. She didn't know why she had apologised, the boy had just blatantly insulted her and she was apologising.

"Protections? None to my knowledge other than the lack of people, excluding everybody that lives down there." She turned and pointed to the village back down the hill that they were standing on, the roads were still empty besides an elderly couple that Delilah recognised as a couple of her grandmother's friends. Mr and Mrs Anderson if she remembered correctly.

"Right, was that not clear? Maybe I should have spoken more clearly..."

In anyone else's mouth, save a few, it would have sounded like a snipe, a bit below 'did I stutter', but definitely above 'no u'. Not that Kaegen would actually have the social awareness to know any of this. To him, he was merely confused that the girl hadn't understood what he thought was perfect english. Maybe she couldn't hear very well?

He tried to remember if death witches could hear well, finally deciding that they could probably hear just fine. After all, hearing was a strength and death witches were strong. So did that mean she was safe? No, probably not.

"Impossible. I remember important things, I always remember important things."

A lie, sure. A huge lie, in fact. But to the boy, it was true. If he forgot something then it wasn't important, if it was important he wouldn't have forgotten, simple logic. Importance was subjective, and with Kaegen Deathmote, you could almost taste the effects of that saying.

Sorry? Why sorry? She hadn't done anything wrong, unless...

Kaegen ignored the rest of what the girl said, with the exception of making the mental note that the village was not a safe place to hide at all. He leapt to the side and then forward, and then forward at an angle to try and bring himself behind the girl.

"You sold me out and are apologizing? That's not how sorry works"

A slingshot slid to his hands with some smooth stones. So, this was how it was going to end? On some random hill in scottland?

...pathetic.

"That doesn't make much sense but ok..."

She looked at the boy with confusion, how can you forget to be invisible? How can you be invisible, she was sure there is a spell for it but they hadn't learned that and she could've sworn they were in the same year. She remembered seeing him in a few classes before since they were in the same house as well.

"So I'm just not important enough to remember then, what a lovely person you are." She added just a smidge (large amount) of sarcasm into the sentence.

She watched him as he seemed to make some realisation. She could not tell what this boy was thinking. He looked more exhausted that anybody she had ever seen before, she was surprised he wasn't yawning every 20 seconds.

Suddenly the boy dodged around her to be behind her and spoke. "Sell you out? What on earth are you talking about? Who would I even sell you out to?" She spun around and saw him pointing a slingshot at her head, "Hold on a minute, what on earth are you doing? Are you crazy!?" It sounded more like a statement than a question but it still stood. She couldn't move, she was actually terrified. A stone like that flung at her head would really hurt, maybe a concussion if it hit hard enough.
