My Kingdom for a Pygmy Puff PET

Alexx stood about five foot, long blonde hair running down her back like a waterfall, the noises of pets surrounding her. She squeezed her older brother's hand, hiding behind him shyly. Unlike the other kids, who ran through these shops with great excitement and a glisten in their eyes, she hid herself behind Mikey and Tex in fear. Well, one thing was for certain: she was not a Gryffindor.

Her older brother tapped her, pushing her forward, and she looked up at him. He had blonde hair and blue eyes, much like her own. Mikey had a kind smile, and his skin had warm undertones that were brought out by the blue in his old Ravenclaw scarf. It was only slightly cold out, but Mikey got colder than most people did. It was likely due to his recent smoking habit that he took up. "It's a stress thing, Lexx," He told her once, trying to reassure her that it was nothing.

Huffing, Alexx trudged between her older brothers and looked at all the pets that were in their crates, smiling at the cats and the owls and the rats and- oh there were so many! This had to be her favorite shop so far! She looked down at her supply list- just as it said. A pet. No, this was not a pet. This was her loyal companion. Shyly, hidden beneath Tex's scarf that she stole from him that morning, she walked up to the counter to ask for assistance. "Hello," she started, her cheeks growing red with nervousness. "I- uhm... I'm looking for a pet." She informed the man, not making eye contact with him.

"Well, you're in the right shop!" He chuckled, coming out from behind the counter. "Alright, kid. What would you like? We have felines, toads, rats, owls, pygmy puffs..." He trailed off, pointing out the examples he listed off as he walked. Alexx's eyes lit up in curiosity.

"Pygmy Puff?" She asked, tilting her head. Out of all the stories that Tex and Mikey had told her, none of them were about Pygmy Puffs. Tex took an owl, Mikey took a toad, Emmaline wanted an owl... Pygmy Puff was a ridiculous name, that much was true, but she couldn't help but be curious about what it was regardless of that. She watched as the man motioned her over to the crate, though she was rather short, so she couldn't quite see what it was that was inside. There was squeaking, however.

"Yes, these are popular with a lot of the girls who come in..." He said, pausing as he pulled the crate down. It's back was to Alexx, so she couldn't quite see it then, either. Alexx's heart fluttered with anticipation- a pet! This was going to be her pet!

The man turned the crate to face her, and there she saw a pink ball of fluff that was colored shades of pink. It was adorable! The man opened the crate, and Alexx stuck her pale palm out for the Pygmy Puff to crawl onto her. It did so, but rather in a rolling manner, and it seemed quite excited. She read the information card on the crate- Born 1/15/17. It was more than a year old. It had no name, no nothing. The rest was up to Alexx entirely.

Backing off, the man allowed her a few moments to play with what was possibly her new companion. Alexx giggled as it rolled around, feeling it's tufts of fur tickle her. How the Muggle kids would envy this! It was, in truth, rather adorable. Mikey stepped up, squatting down beside her in order to be around her height (he was rather tall). "This one is rather expensive, Lexx," He announced, pulling at the price tag on the crate. Alexx narrowed her eyes in shame, pursing her lips softly. He was right. She should have checked the price before even considering- there was no way that she could pull through on this one. She had the galleons, sure, but she also needed those.

Hearing something clinking around in her pocket, she looked down to see where a few more galleons had fallen. Her eyes glanced back up at her brother, Tex, who smiled a bit at her and winked. Her smile grew fondly, and she hugged him briefly before turning back to the elder of the three. "Don't worry- I have enough." She reassured Mikey, pulling out the galleons that Tex had given her. She'd surely have to pay him back later. Then, she turned back to the man and dropped the galleons in his hand. "I'll take her!"
