Maybe this won’t be that bad?
It took about half the day for Rowan and his mother to get to London from Waterford. The trip wasn’t that bad but Rowan didn’t really see the point in it. He didn’t even want to go to Hogwarts. Though his mother insisted that he should attend so he agreed for now. After getting to London it also took about half an hour just to find Diagon Alley. The instructions that were given to them were not that specific and it didn’t help that it was apparently behind some sort of magic wall. Though after that the rest of the day went more smoothly. Finding all the items on the student supply list wasn’t that hard as the place seemed well laid out. Plus, the shopkeeps seemed quite helpful. The last thing they needed to get was a wand. So they headed straight for Ollivanders an apparent wand shop.

When Rowan and his mom entered the shop an old man was wandering through the shelves. They both assumed this was Ollivander as his name was in giant golden letters in the front of the shop. The man didn't seem to notice they entered at first it appeared so Rowan's mother, Eleanor, spoke up," Um, excuse me, sir. We are here to get a wand." Olivander kept looking through the shelves and responded, "Yes, be right there." as he disappeared behind some shelves. After waiting a minute or so Olivander came back to the front of the shop with a box in his hand. "Sorry for the wait. Just reorganizing a little. Now for that wand", Olivander said as he pulled a wand out of the box and handed it over to Rowan, "Why don't you give this one a try."

Rowan took the wand from the old man and gave it a flick. To Rowan's surprise, the wand flew straight out of his hand and disappeared somewhere in the many shelves of boxes. "Hmm, I see. Why don't you try this one instead", Olivander said as he quickly pulled another wand off the shelves. Rowan more hesitantly took this wand and gave a nervous look to his mother. Who just responded with an encouraging smile urging him to try again. Rowan wasn't sure about this but he flicked the wand after his hesitation faded. This time a few shelves rattled and boxes flew off them. "No no no", Olivander said slightly frustrated as he watched the boxes fall. Though this didn't stop him for long as he quickly went to grab another wand. "Try this one. I have a feeling it will work this time", he explained when he returned. Rowan just wanting to get this over with grabbed the wand and instantly felt a cold sensation spread through his body. As wind swept around his form giving him a feeling that he has never felt before. It was new but good in an indescribable way. His mother just watched with joy as Rowan's usual straight face changed into a smile. "I think this is the one", Rowan said to Olivander with a spark of excitement in his eye.

"I see this wand is attracted to wizards that are naturally lucky. Chestnut wood wands usually choose wizards that are good magic beast tamers, herbalists, and fliers. Though the Pheonix core makes this a rather difficult one. They are very picky who they choose as their owner. Let's hope you can tame it. Now, let us discuss the price." Rowan only half listened to what the man was saying at this point. He has never felt anything like that before and was sort of lost in the moment. So his mother paid for the wand and ushered Rowan out of the shop. All Rowan could really think was, "Maybe this won't be that bad."
