The Theft Of The Dog tag
Donny was casually walking through the grounds, smelling the freshly cut grass, and blooming Daffodil under the soles of his shoes. It was the first day of spring at Hogwarts, and a beautiful one at that. He passed the gamekeepers cabin, and sat behind a small boulder next to the natural stream created by the spring rain over night. A beautiful brown Hippogriff came to the old birch fence, stretching it's neck under the rail to taste the spring water. Donny was so consumed with his surroundings that he'd almost forgotten his sole purpose of being there. He whipped out his new book 'Fantastic Beasts: And Where To Find Them' by Newt Scamander. He flipped through the thick pages and read an article about a mysterious animal he'd overheard someone talk about at lunch; a Thestral.
Thestrals were beautiful creatures that one could only see if they have witnessed death. Fortunately, he had never seen one, and the frame in which the picture should be on the page, was blank for Donny had never witnessed death before. He could only read a short description in the caption; "Thestrals have a bony, horse like completion with creamy white eyes and devilish wings at each side...". Donny wished he could see one. In a way, if he saw death, he would be able to see something new, alive.
The class behind him interrupted his imagery, as they were squealing and laughing quite a lot for some reason. It was then that Donny saw a small, grey rodent run behind the boulder in which he rest his back on. Without warning, the little rodent clanged onto the shiny dog tag around his neck. He choked, and his voice was muffled as he struggled to escape. The rodent seemed extremely fond with the shiny object, and was adamant at taking his treasure for itself.
"Hey!" Someone said.
The figure took hold of the rodent, and threw it off of Donny's neck in a hurry. "What was that?" Donny asked the person, catching his breath and not looking up at the figure. It appeared to be another student who'd come to his aid. "Do you know what that was?"
