Tired...
Ariella ran into the toilets. She was tired and didn't want anyone to talk to her. This place was the perfect place to go - she knew people didn't come here much. After all, class had just finished - it was guaranteed no one would bother her for at least ten minutes. She stared herself in the mirror and sighed. She could've fallen asleep right then and there - she knew she shouldn't have stayed up late reading that book... but it had been so riveting...
She realized she had fallen half-asleep and was leaning on the sink. She groaned, noticing her hair was wet from the tap she had knocked over.
Well, isn't this a fine kettle of fish.
She chuckled at her thoughts. She had learned that phrase from her dad, who was always quoting weird old fashioned things. She really missed him since he went missing.
She went back to the mirror, checking how wet her hair was. As she stared in the mirror, she noticed there were dark circles under her eyes.
Damn, I really am tired...
Her thoughts were quickly interrupted by another girl entering the toilets. Ariella heard the door open and blinked. She smiled weakly and waved.
"Hi..."

Tired...
Despite her love for the school, her dorm, and all the friends she was starting to make, Katherine just needed a moment. Just a moment of complete solitude. Class had just been dismissed, and she was ready to find a place to be alone and just - relax. The last few minutes of class had almost been unbearable, every word of the professor seeming to further sharpen the nerves that had already been threatening to cut through her calm composure. Dismissal had been such a relief, and Katherine hadn't wasted any time in bolting out of the classroom. Now she was just wandering the halls in search of her desired place of freedom. Unfortunately, that search ended when she saw another girl run past her into the abandoned toilets.
Upon seeing the girl, a part of her had told her to just keep walking, to find another place and let the girl have some space. The other part of her told her to go after the girl. Maybe try and provide some comfort. Unable to avoid the guilt that she knew would plague her if she kept walking, Katherine approached the door to the abandoned toilets. She waited for a few minutes in case the girl needed some time to herself before opening the door.
The girl's blonde hair was partially wet, and Katherine could see the bags under her brown eyes from the door. Her demeanor immediately turned soft, all thoughts of annoyed claustrophobia seeming to disappear. "Hello," she began with a warm tone. "I'm Katherine." The girl before her wore the same blue colors as Katherine, but she hadn't seen or met her before. "Is everything alright?" Normally, Katherine hated asking that question when things were so obviously not alright. However, she didn't want to assume anything about the stranger before her. So Katherine allowed the door to close behind her and leaned against the closest wall. She didn't want to approach the girl in fear of making her uncomfortable. She would keep her distance for now until she got a better feel for the situation.

Tired...
Ariella looked at the girl. She was extremely pretty, with red hair and blue eyes.
"Hello. I'm Katherine. Is everything alright?"
Ariella decided to come up with an excuse - sure there was extreme fatigue that came from not sleeping for at least three days, but it seemed kind of stupid.
"Uh, I was just looking for something. And I looked in the drain and knocked the tap and... yeah," she felt a pang of guilt for lying, but she decided it was for everyone's good. And for the sake of Ariella's dignity. Suddenly, she felt her ankles getting soaked.
"Oh now look what I've done! I've flooded the bathroom," She told herself angrily, she turned off the tap and turned to Katherine.
"Oh... I'm Ariella."
She immediately took off her necklace and showed it to Katherine. It was a little heart with the letters 'Ariella' engraved on them. She put the necklace around her neck, then dropped a sketch she had drawn into a crack in the mirror.
"I've lost a sketch of an antipodean opaleye. It's folded up, and I thought I dropped it near the sink."
She crouched down as if she was looking for something.
Why am I lying?

She was skeptical of the girl's answer, but Katherine didn't press. Nothing good came out of pushing someone who didn't wish to be pushed. Instead, she nodded along as she listened, eventually pushing herself from the wall to approach the girl. Ignoring the sloshing of the sink water against her shoes, she drew closer to examine the necklace that the girl - Ariella - held out for her to see.
Then, Ariella was crouching down, clearly looking for the sketch that she claimed to have lost. Katherine crouched down herself; she collected the dangling edge of her skirt in her hands to avoid soaking it in the water pooled on the floor. "Antipodean opaleye? What's that?" It sounded like some sort of magical creature - one that Katherine was unfamiliar with but suddenly eager to learn about. Fantasy and mystical beings had always been a soft spot for the bookworm. Maybe this conversation could accomplish two things: satisfy Katherine's curiosity and create a more comfortable conversation for the other girl. Sketching and other art might be something Ariella was fond of, so talking about it could help calm her, make her trust Katherine a bit more. For Katherine could sense something more the girl wasn't mentioning. Perhaps she would be more open to share if Katherine made herself to be more of a new friend rather than just a fellow Ravenclaw.

Ariella continued looking when Katherine looked back at her.
"Antipodean Opaleye? What's that?"
Ariella looked down and grinned at herself, ready to explain what it was.
"An Antipodean Opaleye is a dragon. It's native to Australia and New Zealand. I've seen one in real life... do you want to see a photo? Maybe that could help you understand what my sketch looks like." she said, rummaging in her pocket for a photo of the Antipodean Opaleye. Pulling it out, she showed it to Katherine.
"It looks like this."
Ariella was confused about why she was lying. Probably lack of trust. While Samna and Annelise were easy to make friends with, there was almost no way she could relate to Katherine other than the fact they were both hiding out in the abandoned toilets with their broken sinks and missing taps. She stood up.
"I don't think it's on the floor. Besides, even if it was on the floor, it would be ruined, and then there'd be no point in looking for it anyway," she sighed, looking around the immediate area for another place to look.
Now where did I put that sketch again?
Ariella's forgetfulness had got the best of her. She had actually lost her sketch.

It was genuine interest that widened her blue eyes at Ariella's explanation. A dragon, - something she had once thought of as a product of fantasy and imagination - real and true. The picture displayed the mystical creature's shining pearl scales and vivid, multi-colored eyes. It was an image she couldn't have even imagined if she had tried. "Wow..." she whispered in awe. "You've seen that in real life?" She shook her head in amazed disbelief. "I'm so jealous." Katherine made sure to mentally add that to her ever-increasing list of things to do: see a dragon.
When Ariella stood, so too did Katherine, her thighs burning from the crouched position. Her brows furrowed as she pressed her lips together in thought. "Maybe it's somewhere by the sink?" After all, that was where she had been when Katherine had entered the bathroom. Katherine stepped around Ariella, wincing as water sloshed against her shoes, and approached the weathered sink. Besides the obvious run-down nature of the porcelain, nothing else seemed to catch her attention. She glanced back to the other girl with a slight smile. "Maybe this sketch of yours grew a pair of legs and ran off." Katherine chuckled, mostly at herself, before continuing to scan the area for the sketch.
