Maybe It's a Joyride  Max 5   closed
Note: This takes place at the beginning of the school year.

In the train station stood an odd trio, a man, a woman and supposedly their daughter. This was Jeno. She waited patiently in her crisp, black robes as her parents discussed an irrelevant conversation that had nothing to do with school, so she only partially listened. She was more intent on watching to see if any wizards were going through the wall to get to Platfom 9¾, and so far she'd caught exactly fourteen people doing so. It still amazed her about how oblivious muggles were to magic, the amount of ignorance was almost depressing to watch.

Finally her parents chose to continue on, hurrying to the divider wall. Her father sadly couldn't join them, for he was a muggle, and had work to do that day. He solemnly gave her living kiss goodbye and gave her infamous speech about being careful and not letting bullies get to her. Jeno sometimes wondered if they really thought she cared for other's opinions, or was it because she feigned her emotions so well that they were so sure. She considered this as she watched her father disappear into the crowed of muggles in the station.

Facing the platform between, Jeno braced herself as she ran through, feeling a strange sensation as she and her cart went through the bricks and onto Platform 9¾. Immediately Jeno noticed the famous crimson train, the Hogwarts Express, and the large amount of wizards scurrying around before the locomotive departed. Her mother had a hand on her shoulder, following her as she gave her things to one of the leaders.

Turning to her mother, she said, "'It's time to say goodbye, but I think goodbyes are sad and I'd much rather say hello. Hello to a new adventure.' Ernie Harwell." She watched intently with creased eyebrows as her mother's face contorted in sadness, tears falling down her face. She pulled Jeno into a tight hug, blubbering about how much she'd miss her only child and only hoped for her safety during her months away. Jeno wrapped her arms around her mother, rubbing her back. She was about to say something comforting but the train blew, signaling it was about to go.

Jeno squeezed her mother's hand, brushing the tears off her face. "I promise to be strong, mum. It's all we can do now. I love you." With that remark, she joined the other students aboard the train, glancing back her mother once more before disappearing.

The inside was almost as nice as the outside, with it's numerous compartments and delicately designed interior. Jeno got out if the way as students rushed by, shouting and goofing around in excitement. She was more intrigued than ecstatic, though, but she did plaster a smile on her face. She ran her hands across the walls, wondering about the sort of enchantments placed on the train, and if there were any viable way of escaping.

"'To live is an awfully big adventure...' Peter Pan," Jeno mused, finding herself a compartment to sit in. She was alone but it didn't bother her, she preferred the quietness at the moment. It wasn't long before she found herself drowsy, her eyes lowering until she fell asleep.
