New Year, New Lunch, New Friends
Aurora sat eating a sandwich and rereading one of her favorite books, The Lightning Thief, being careful to keep crumbs from falling in between the pages. It was raining out, causing a chill that had Aurora missing the days when she could curl up in the overstuffed chairs of her father's bakery, reading by the fire while the smell of fresh bread and cinnamon rolls wafts through the air.
Aurora took a bite of her sandwich before turning the page in her book, continuing to read. The sound of rain coming downing on the castle windows was soothing, bringing Aurora to a soft kind of peace, where she could just curl up and sleep right then, unfortunately, she has more classes, including Herbology and the rain was going to make the walk to the greenhouses very wet, and not very fun.
After Aurora finished her sandwich she thanked the house elf that came to collect her plate, smiling softly when they squeaked out a "Your welcome!" She continued to listen to the rain as she read her book laughing gently at the occasional joke or sarcastic comment that she overhears from a fellow student. Eventually, she looks up to see another student sitting at the table, "Hi, I'm Aurora." Aurora says smiling as she puts her book away.

New Year, New Lunch, New Friends
Guinevere missed a lot of things and the biggest thing she missed was the internet. As far as she knew there was no electricity, wi-fi, or cable in this old castle that sort of reminded her of back home. The manor was much more dreary and creepy while the castle was warm and inviting but they were both old and easy to get lost in, especially if you still didn't know where you were a few months into the school year.
While the rain was soothing it did nothing to ease Guinevere's ever-wandering mind. There was a lot of things to wonder about, from school subjects, letter writing, ways to past the ever-dullimg time here, and the ancient practice of making friends. She liked to keep her mind busy, or that was what she was used to, and the rain only added more noise to the busy streets of her brain.
Being a Gryffindor didn't really make more of a difference to her than being a non-Gryffindor, she still felt the same and surely acted the same, which she told her family. She had felt like she would've gotten into Ravenclaw like her father but got into her mother's house instead, much to everyone's surprise. Sometimes she wondered if maybe she'd feel more...united with the Ravenclaws but she'd heard that she couldn't change Houses anyway. Besides, she had a good feeling about the Sorting Hat's decision.
Although she didn't really feel like eating, strangely, Guinevere decided to try to sit down an relax to get back her appetite, since she hadn't eaten anything all day except for one half-eaten chocolate frog that she'd found under her pillow. She went to sit down at the Gryffindor table next to some people she vaguely remembered but then thought better of it. No one said I couldn't, she thought as she turned around and went to Ravenclaws.
She sat down quickly, waiting a moment to hear someone say something about her moving before eating her food. She was picking at it more than eating, staring down at the mashed potatoes, corn, dumplings, and whatever else she'd grabbed. At least the grape-cranberry juice tasted fine. She was about to dig into the tomato soup she'd just laddled for herself when Guinevere heard someone introduce themselves.
Looking up she noticed a girl with dark hair and green eyes who wore the Ravenclaw colors. Her eyes were pretty big and innocent looking, to her at least. After studying Aurora for a moment, she replied, "Hel-lo." , drawing out the 'O'. She brushed hair out of her face, revealing the white marks across her left eye. She wondered what the girl thought about them, if she even cared or noticed. She returned the smile.
"I'm—Gwen." She cleared her throat, startled by the stutter she'd made. "Short for Guinevere. What book were you reading?" She had noticed Aurora put away the book.
