Helping a Downturned Smile

Gryffindor Common Room Entrance
10th January 2019
4.00 pm
Aurelia heaved a pile of Gryffgazette papers in her arms as she made her way to the library. As usual, every month, she’d have to clear out the old issues and replace them with the current month’s. She had done it month after month that it had became a routine. After stacking the papers neatly onto the rack, she began handing out the issue’s to the students in the library making sure each of them got one.
“Here’s this month’s issue,” She said once more after about a dozen times with a friendly smile on her face as she extended her arm with an issue for the hufflepuffs boy to take. But as she did, she noticed that his eyes reflected a familiar spark of sorrow. Being one who Interview for the Gryffgazette, every now and then Aurelia would have come across somebody who just needed another soul to talk to or a shoulder to cry on. Most of the times, Aurelia wasn’t the comforting type but in order to draw information out of someone, she’d be willing.
The girl tilted her head slightly. If she wasn’t wrong, this boy was Miko Limof. Aurelia was one who kept with the gossips in the Gryffindor common room. It would be that Miko recently had ended a relationship with a fellow boy. Rainer Green was the first to tell her that relationships with the same gender existed and she was thankful for that since she’d be clueless if he hadn’t.
“If I were you, I’d turn to Jokes and comics on page 14. They might help cheer you up.” the girl said as she sat down beside the boy.
“Your Miko Limof right? I’m sorry such a thing happened to you.” Aurelia sighed, her eyebrows furrowing together. Such a thing, she had meant heartbreak. Aurelia had experienced heartbreak before, when she was barely 7 years of age. It was so long ago that she could admit that she might have forgotten how it felt. It wasn’t in a relationship but rather the death of her brother. Heartbreaks were that bad weren’t they?

A Gryffindor girl was handing around the latest of the house's news and what not when she got to Miko she sat next to him. His head was lowered on the table he was at but it raised when she spoke to him. "Very funny.." The boy used a bit of sarcasm to answer what her first statement was which made him smile ever so slightly. She already knew his name, how odd, normally he knew everyone who knew his name but apparently not anymore.
"Mhm, that would be me. And who might you be?" The Hufflepuff looked her up and down, searching his mind for a bit of knowledge as to who she was and maybe how she knew his name but he gave up eventually. It was no use, there was no information on her that he knew about for now anyways. As he looked to her hand he realised she offered him something and he didn't, not wanting to be awkward he acted like he forgot that she had the paper and looked at the shelf in front of the two.
Great, a stranger that knew his name.
What a slightly creepy thing.
Was it good?
Was it bad?
Limof fixed his tie and pulled his robes forward which were slightly too big for him and falling off his shoulders. Not a hand me down just his size was overestimated so now he had a robe that would last him about two more years and then get too small. His personality was large but he was not, what a weird thing to say. 'The boy had a big personality. But he was not very big himself.' isn't it weird?
He of course is very tall for his age, five foot eight to be exact but not as big as the robe. Yes, he was muscular too but not enough to fill in the robe.

“Aurelia Bezuidenhout,” The girl had introduced herself. It was her second year in school, most students would have known at least her name since she was always credited at the back page of the papers. However, it wasn’t expected that Miko would know her name since first of, he was a first year and second, he was a Hufflepuff and might not be interested in what ever news that came from Gryffindor.
Seeing that the Hufflepuff had not bothered to accept the offer of the issue, Aurelia politely retracted her hand back. Not in the mood, huh. The Gryffindor thought. Aurelia felt rather sorry for him, Aurelia wasn’t sure how the situation was but according to the gossips flying in the Gryffindor dorms, he had ended a relationship with a Gryffindor boy named Rowan Bane.
There were two types of people she came across during some interviews. Some would rather you leave their business for them to handle while others would prefer for a shoulder to cry on or somebody to cry on. Miko seemed like the former especially when he looked away, at a distance towards a pile of books seeming deliberate in avoiding eye contact. Aurelia stood up from her chair. With an unfaltering smile, she said “Well, I’ve just came here to say I hope you’d cheer up after what happened with You and Rowan Bane.”
“Anyways, if you’d like to get a copy of the Gryffgazette, they’re all in that corner.” Aurelia gestured with her fingers which had stained with ink from the papers directing to the shelf at the far end of the room.

His look turned from sorrowful to surprised. Whipping his head around to face her, he opened his mouth to speak. "How-how do you know about that?" Miko's eyes were widened while he thought the worst. Is she stalking me? Am I even interesting enough to have a stalker?! Did Rowan betray my trust and tell everyone in the Gryffindor house that I wasn't good enough for him?!!! Are the thoughts that were going through his mind. As I said before, thinking the worst of the situation.
The Hufflepuff boy gestured for her to come back over and sit down for them to talk. "I thank you though for being apologetic instead of laughing, that's quite comforting actually." He smiled. "As you very clearly know already the name is Miko Cirius Limof. Any nicknames are welcome but Miko shouldn't be too hard to stick to." A goofy smile spread across his face as he nodded a bit before stopping suddenly, clearly going into deep thought.
He could tell a Scot from a mile away and she clearly was not. English was she? "So have you adapted to the Scottish Winters yet, Ms. Bezuidenhout?" The lad had to pronounce her last name slowly as it was not a relatively short name nor easy to pronounce what so ever. He did it of course but not all too well, again not very common.

Miko’s eyebrows jolt up when he heard Aurelia mention about Rowan, his supposed ex. Oops, she had thought almost every first year would have heard about the incident. Apparently not, perhaps it was just her, how she was attentive, ears always peeled for the latest gossips. Aurelia prayed that he didn’t think her too nosy.
“Rumors and the gossips buzzing within the Gryffindor common room,” She admitted without missing a beat. A small gesture with a hand directing to the chair she had just stood up from was made, inviting her to sit back down to her suprise. Intentions of her intrusions wasn’t in any way negative and Miko would have known that too.
“It would have been nasty if I laughed at something so personal wouldn’t it?” her questions was much rhetorical, not inendjng for an answer.
A sigh was exhaled lightly from her lips when the boy asked about her and the cold. Judging by his accent, one typically hard to translate and decipher in her mind, he was Scottish and so the sub zero temperatures in winter would be no problem for him. “Not really. The cold and I don’t go along. I used to like going down to the grounds but now, the warmth of the castle is much better. ” She admitted.
It was clear that the boy had slight trouble pronouncing her last name. It was expected, usually, many would take a try or six to get it right. It was Dutch anyways.
“Be-zow-dehn-out. It’s Dutch, not relatively easy to pronounce.”
