Shards of Time Preptober 2026

The Elevator Pitch: The sequel to Shards of Persia. It is a whirlwind adventure through different time periods: Ancient Egypt, Persia, the Crusades, and the War in Iraq. Across each era we meet the central protagonist from the previous book, Nim, but the book is told from the perspective of his divine lover Min/Anahita as she races across time to save her Time God (Challenge: Story within a Story).
Three Things I know:
1. Each iteration of Nim follows a similar trajectory as the previous book so the rhythm should be familiar to readers.
2. This book is a chiasm like the last book where the book opens and closes the same way, and the climax is in the center of the book.
3. The ending returns to the previous book to reveal who the series is really about and it’s not the celestial couple.
Three Things I don’t Know:
1. Ancient Egypt has a god named Min (who I named the female lead) but it’s a boy and no Egyptians girls are born with the name derivatives of Min. So gotta either retcon the previous novel or place the opening not in Egypt where Min would be a reason name for a woman.
2. Each era has a Nim and Min and an interloping pair each from a different time period. At one point I did know the match up but I didn’t write it down. Need to do so.
3. Each era is Nim and Min interacting with a pivotal historical moment but moving behind the scenes, their actions having consequences for the resulting history though not the driving force behind it. I have not picked the historical moments for the book. In shards of Persia it is Artexerxes II’s systematic isolation and conquest of Cyprus. Need to nail down the historical moments for this novel.
