Vale was beginning to accept there were a lot of people she was bound to say final farewells to. Some farewells were harder than others, she realized. Saying farewell to Avery? That was a tough one. She wasn't quite sure what to make of the ending to their relationship, but it wasn't in bad terms. Vale didn't like the idea of relationships ending on bad terms. Even with her gravest enemies, she was bound to sniff out their graves and place a flower on it...before setting it on fire in glee.
There wasn't such a thing for an Ashwood to keep any form of grudge.
Still, endings didn't always end with complete ends of their own. Vale wasn't sure what Avery went off to do after their mutual break-up, but she'd only assumed he decided to live a muggle lifestyle. Even when they were together, Vale took notice of his conflict with who he was. But it wasn't something she felt it was in her right to intervene in. They kept their secrets. One secret Vale kept was the worry her father had regarding their relationship.
Pray tell, he had nothing against the boy, according to his words, but the Ashwoods kept their 'purity' for a reason. The Ashwoods were very happy and maybe too excited to interact with magbobs of all sorts. Likely something that stems from their African tribal roots. Any child not of true pure-blood heritage was destined to die young. A major argument her father and grandfather faced when her mother came into the picture. They were all convinced she was a magbob. However, that issue was solved was far above Vale's head, but she was sure even at the end of her grandfather's life cycle, there was a tense sourness that never left.
Vale didn't want a sour relationship with her father. She thought she was done for after she nearly destroyed her father's lab with her shenanigans months earlier. But everything was repaired (with Vale grounded, for the first time in her life), and her father remained awfully on good terms with her. The only noticeable difference is that now she wasn't allowed out without a bodyguard unless she was at school or at home. So, there was one secret.
Not like it matters now.
Vale lay out in the grounds of Hogwarts, taking advantage of her free time from class and sports in general. In the most damning thing, Vale turned curious in the past year or so about the use of plucking an instrument's strings rather than just letting magic do all the work. Perhaps seeing a certain boy long enough doing that on his own, despite his own magical background, was enough to draw her own curiosity to the amount of work and effort being all done by hand.
There Vale was, with a wooden guitar in her scarred hands, plucking away the strings in a pattern she just barely learned to do. The plucks were careful, missing the correct tune despite all the 'tuning' Vale did up to that point. She was just about to give up the meaningless hobby. What meaning was there to it anyway? It wasn't like there was anyone who wasn't a magbob who could acknowledge any form of dedication Vale was bothering to put into it. Some of her wizarding friends even questioned her about it, never seeing a guitar go beyond plucking itself where needed.
Vale pulled the guitar away, feeling as if she was likely cheated out of some galleons from Muggle Artefacts during her school shopping run. She really should've just got another doll for her collection instead. At least
Soot, her new doll, paired well with Ashes. Vale held the guitar by its neck, carelessly dropping it to her side before huddling her legs together.
What
was the point to anything? Of learning things that can be automated? But where then, would there be the 'passion' for life itself?
Vale rubbed her head, brushing away her philosophical questions. Well, might as well get ready to return to school. But before Vale could pick up her wooden guitar and drag herself back to her mundane life, she swears she heard movement in the grass near her.
And with a quick snap of her neck, she observes whoever took a dare to come face to face with Vale herself.
