This week is about turning "I have an idea" into something resembling a story.

✦

The Elevator Pitch

⌁

A teenage girl who feels unwanted by her family and friends discovers a mysterious locked door that leads to a magical world where she can finally be free. But after experiencing a life without the people she once took for granted, she begins to understand that being loved does not always mean being understood.

One sentence:

A lonely teenager enters a magical world to escape everyone she thinks hates her, only to discover how much she was actually loved.

Three Things I Know

⌁

Three things I absolutely know:

1. The girl genuinely believes that her family and friends don't care about her, even though they actually love her.

2. She discovers a mysterious locked door that leads to a magical world where nobody knows her.

3. Her journey will change the way she sees herself, her relationships, and what it really means to be loved.

Three things I haven't figured out yet:

1. What exactly is the magical world like and what strange things she will experience there?

2. Why does the locked door appear specificaly to her?

3.What will finally make her realize that she wants to return home?

The Promise

⌁

Complete the following phrase:

"I want this story to make the reader feel curious, emotional, and hopeful."

I want the readers to become curious about the magical world and what the locked door means, while also connecting with the girl's feelings of loneliness and frustration.

Most importantl I want them to finish the story feeling hopeful about their own relationships and remembering that people can love us even when they don't always show it perfectly.

CHALLENGE. Steal This Prompt

Pick one of these 10 elements and incorporate it somehow into your concept.

❦

A locked door

The girl discovers a mysterious old door hidden inside her house that she had never seen before.

One night, she finds a note telling her that the door will open for those who truly wish to leave.

When she touches it the door opens into a magical world where she is finally free from her family, friends, school, and all the problems she believed are ruining her life.

But when she eventually wants to return home, she finds the door locked again with a new message telling her that it will only open when she understands what she left behind.

✦

"The door was never meant to keep her out.

It was waiting for her to understand why she wanted to leave."
