STARGAZING

After a packed couple of days of competitions and wilderness exploration, Nadira was personally excited for the final event taking place at Uagadou, a calm evening out under the stars. Something she personally enjoyed doing growing up as a child and continued into her days spent at Uagadou, Nadira was eager to find a spot to sit and try to pick out some constellations and tonight luckily was a perfect clear night for viewing the stars.

While everyone had arrived at Uagadou through the New Moon Gate, tonight was the First Quarter Moon so everyone would be leaving through there in the morning. So tonight to enjoy the new moon phase, everyone would be able to head up to the First Quarter Gate and step outside to the fields where many students enjoy spending leisure time on a regular basis. The zipline area would be off limits for the night though as no one wanted any students taking off and getting lost in the middle of the night in the unfamiliar mountains so a teacher would be posted by the zipline to make sure no one tried.

Many would probably be surprised by how much open space the school had since most of the school was built into the mountain itself. But out one the fields tonight they would find some tables with snacks and drinks set out for all of their guests to enjoy as they sit out on the grass. There was also an assortment of blankets for everyone to lay out on the ground and sit on if they chose.

Nadira climbed up onto a nearby rock and stood up tall as she looked out over the crowd of their guests. It had been a truly lovely time hosting this leg of the event at Uagadou and she was proud to have been able to show off not only the school she represented as Headmistress but her own alma mater as well. "Everyone!" Nadira called out, "I thank you all for joining us at Uagadou these last few days. The sportsmanship and hard work everyone has displayed was truly inspiring and I hope it will continue on into the next part of the event at Durmstrang." She smiled out at the young students standing before her and then looked up at the stars before looking back down to continue. "Please come and try some of the refreshments we have set out and feel free to take a blanket as well to sit on if you don't want to sit on the ground. Now let's all enjoy a relaxing evening under the stars together!" Nadira stepped off the rock and went to grab a plate of snacks before wandering around the grounds, stopping to talk to any students who called out to her.

It was the last day at Uagadou, and tonight would be the last night Elara would spend at the school. After everything that had happened over the past few days, she was glad the final event was something quiet. There had been competitions, exploring, and the trek through the wilderness. Tonight, there was nothing she needed to rush to. Elara followed the other students out towards the fields after passing through the First Quarter Gate. She looked around as they stepped outside. The open space still surprised her a little. Most of Uagadou had been built into the mountain, so she had not expected to see such a large field. She found a spot a little away from the busiest part of the group. There were blankets laid out for everyone, so she picked one up and carried it with her. Elara spread it over the grass and sat down. The sky was clear tonight. She tilted her head back and looked at the stars. There were so many of them. They seemed easier to see here than they did back at Hogwarts. Maybe I should try to find a constellation. Elara was not sure how many she could actually recognise. She knew a few, but remembering where each one was was another matter.

Before settling in, she decided to get something to eat. The refreshment table had more choices than she expected. Elara looked over everything for a moment before taking a piece of chicken muchomo. She had never tried it before, and the smell had made her curious. She also picked up some plantain chips. They looked a little like banana chips, so she wanted to see how they tasted. For something sweet, she chose a mandazi dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon. She took a cup of pineapple and mango juice before heading back to her blanket. Elara tried the muchomo first. She took a small bite and paused. "It's so good," she said under her breath. She took another bite before reaching for a plantain chip. It was crisp and slightly salty. She had expected it to taste more like a banana, but it did not. Elara took another one. I like these. She then tried the mandazi. It was not as sweet as she had expected from how it looked. The cinnamon gave it a nice taste, too. Elara took a sip of her juice. A few plantain chips were still left beside her, along with half of the mandazi. She had stopped eating for the moment, more interested in the stars above her. She looked up again, trying to remember the name of one of the constellations she knew.

Uagadou has been amazing. Completely remarkable. Absolutely awesome, and beyond all the tales and descriptions Bella had ever heard about the school. She was slightly sad that it was the last day she would be at Uagadou, as tomorrow, they were all going to go to Durmstrang. Even though she was very excited to see another school, she would miss all the nature and wilderness of Uagadou.

"Let's make this night last," Bella told herself, smiling.

The moon shone brightly at first quarter, and it was bright enough that Bella could see everything and everyone around her. Bella noted the zipline -- and the teacher -- guarding it, as well as the refreshment table filled with snacks and drinks.

Bella was taken out of her thoughts when she heard Headmistress Nadira's announcement. She turned to look at the headmistress, standing on top of a nearby rock. After she finished talking, Bella rushed over to the blanket pile, grabbing the one at the top before hurrying over to the table.

"Woah. There are so many choices!" Bella remarked to herself. She grabbed a plate and got a little bit of all three of the snacks the table had to offer, as well as a cup of passion fruit and papaya juice!

With the blanket, drinks, and snack in hand, Bella turned to look for a good spot to sit. She wanted to sit somewhere further away from all the loud talking, but not too far away to miss any important or interesting action. As she glanced up at the sky, she realized that it was clear -- much clearer than any night sky back home at London, where the stars were barely visible. Here, constellations decorated the sky like ornaments on a Christmas tree.

When Bella almost tripped, she shook her head and scolded herself.

"Oh, come on, Bella! You can have time to admire the calmness and beauty of the night after you find a place to settle down. You almost tripped and poured the drink over yourself!" she muttered, but her excitement was still bursting. That was when she noticed a girl sitting by herself on a blanket, enjoying the quiet of the night too.

"Oh, hi Elara!" she waved to her friend as she walked closer. "Mind if I join you? Don't you think the night sky is so beautiful?"

Bella set down her blanket and got herself comfortable before continuing. Her father taught her a lot about the stars, and she was sure she would learn more in astronomy class (hopefully)

"There's Aquarius. That's my star sign, too! And there's Pegasus! It's so amazing how here in the wilderness, all the constellations are bright and clear, isn't it? I sort of wish it's like that back home in London. Hmm...can you see the stars at Hogwarts? I never checked."

OOC Notes: Hi! Wow, this is making me want to stargaze IRL :D

She was still trying to make out the constellation when Bella approached her. Elara smiled at her friend. "Hi, Bella! Of course you can join. Yes, the sky is really beautiful." Elara looked back at the sky as Bella pointed out Aquarius. She followed her gaze and looked a little closer. "Aquarius?" she asked. "Oh, I think I can see it." She had probably looked past it before without noticing. It was easier to spot now that Bella had pointed it out. "And that's Pegasus?" Elara followed Bella's finger towards another part of the sky. She looked for a few seconds before nodding. "Oh, yeah. I can see that one too." Elara looked between the two constellations. She knew a few names, but she was never very good at remembering where to find them. She wondered how many more she could recognise if she stayed out here long enough. When Bella asked about Hogwarts, Elara thought for a moment. "I'm not sure. I've never really checked either. I guess the stars are probably visible there too, but I don't think they'd be as clear as this." She looked up again. There seemed to be so many more stars here than she was used to seeing. "I don't think I've ever seen this many at once, though." Elara reached for another plantain chip and took a bite. She kept looking up between bites, trying to match the stars to the shapes Bella had pointed out. "I don't know many constellations," she admitted. "I usually just recognise them when someone points them out." She looked at Bella. "Do you have a favourite one?"

It was peaceful, and though it was autumn, the night was at the perfect temperature -- not too cold and not too hot. There was a light breeze that wove through Bella's hair as she sat happily with Elara, drink in hand, as they both stared up at the sky.

"Well, I guess no, I don't specifically have a favorite one. However, I do love Aquarius, because it is my star sign. Not only that, but it also symbolizes knowledge, innovation, and thinking. I just thought that it's really cool, how somebody could see stars scattered around the sky to create images. Sort of like 'connect the dot' games, you know?" she explained, glancing at Elara. "How about you?"

Munching on a delicious chip, she smiled.

"Constellations often have meanings, stories, and myths behind them. Personally, I find them so interesting! I wonder whether Astronomy class would teach stuff like that..."

She drifted off into her thoughts, thinking back when she spent hours per week just reading books about myths and retellings of stories, before snapping back into the present!

"Sorry, Elara! I just find myself thinking about how calm and beautiful it is. Like, I can hear all the owls hooting and crickets chirping! What about you, what do you like about the night?" Bella asked.

OOC Notes: I had to research some stuff for this post  although I do love myths and stories! :)

The stars still caught Elara's attention as Bella talked about Aquarius and the stories behind the constellations. She tried to follow the shapes Bella had pointed out earlier. She wasn't sure she could find them again on her own. "I don't think I have a favourite one yet. My star sign is Scorpio. I've never really looked into it." She glanced back at the sky. "But the myths sound interesting. I think I'd like to learn more about them." She glanced at Bella when she went quiet for a moment. "I like how quiet it is. It's still a little noisy with everyone around, but it's quieter than during the day. And I like the stars. There are so many of them here." She reached for another plantain chip and took a bite. The crickets were chirping somewhere in the grass. An owl hooted in the distance. "I like those sounds, too. I don't hear them that often at home." Elara took another sip of her juice. She looked around the field before looking up again. "I think I'll miss Uagadou. There's been a lot to see here." She paused and smiled a little. "But I'm glad the last night is something like this." Elara leaned back slightly and rested her hands on the blanket. She tried to find Aquarius once more before glancing towards Pegasus. "I'll probably forget where they are tomorrow," she said with a quiet laugh. "You'll have to point them out again if we see them."
ooc notes Haha I can tell! Myths and stories are always fun
