What an interesting day, while Axyen got a few owls here and there leading up to his birthday, he had forgot entirely it was his birthday today, so to his surprise, when he got back to the dormitory that morning, he found some presents he had somehow failed to notice beforehand. Huh? Axyen inspected the cards by his bedside—that was right, it was his birthday: September 14! How could he have forgotten about that!? How exciting!
Axyen sat down on his bed, and while he was already dressed for the day, he was suspecting there were new clothes he would probably have to wear. He counted the presents carefully, and then twice to ensure he counted right the first time. One of them was from Jacob, his annoying elder brother who was a professional duelist and often liked to taunt Axyen for his poor losing streak whenever he remembered to do so. Ugh, it's probably a prank that's going to blow up in my face... I should proceed carefully... Axyen thought to himself.
He examined the gift as if it was some kind of weapon, or powerful magical item that would unleash chaos the second he opened it. Knowing Jacob, Axyen wouldn't be surprised if Jacob did in fact try to pull that off with this gift. Axyen took out his wand and carefully aimed it at the box. He took a deep breath.
"Lepidterio!" Butterflies fluttered outwards at the gift... and nothing...? When they landed or otherwise interacted with the box, nothing crazy happened. Must be safe, then. What if it's when you OPEN the box, Axyen!? Use your head a bit more! Axyen had that thought and immediately stepped away again.
"Revelio!" Nothing notable.
Axyen eventually approached the box and carefully opened it, wand at the ready—
"No way!" It was a dueling book!? Atop the book was a sticky note reading: "From a professional duelist to a noob" Axyen opened the book excitedly like a kid on Christmas day and...
That's how he found himself in the Dueling Club with a birthday hat and feeling especially motivated to practice setting a great example as the Dueling Captain even if it was his birthday. There were students in here, training and probably working hard on their craft today. Okay, now this is my chance to show off the new spell I learned today! Axyen thought with a proud smile fixed upon his face. I AM SO EXCITED, THIS IS GOING TO CHANGE SO MUCH IN ALL OF MY DUELS AND ALL FUTURE DUELS!!!
Axyen calmly raised his wand to aim at the training dummy set up in front of him, he hoped he didn't look too eager to cast anything as he aimed. With a smirk slowing spreading on his face, he said, "Confringo!"
[D20: 4] + 9 = 13, fail.
No sparks, not even a flicker. "H-huh? Axyen cleared his throat awkwardly; but hey, it was a new spell! Nobody casts a new spell perfectly... right? "Confringo!"
[D20: 5] + 9 = 14, fail.
HUH!? WHAT'S HAPPENING!? I am going to look like a fool in front of everyone!! Where am I going wrong!? Axyen wondered to himself in a panic. With a bit of frustration... "Confringo!"
[D20: 14] + 9 = 23
"ACKK!" Axyen didn't expect the explosion to work! Weren't you supposed to have a clear mind for this type of thing!? So why did it work then, and now he probably looked scared of his own spells! What was this series of unfortunate events?! His heart was pounding as well, he didn't expect it to be that loud or anything!
Still, those explosions hitting the dummy looked amazing, it was Axyen's personal birthday explosion! Nobody saw that... right? Like, I didn't look stupid or anything heh...
Well, considering I just cast an EXPLOSION, someone probably did see, crap!
Axyen looked around for this imaginary person he made up in his head... Or at the very least, he was hoping he made them up in his head. Otherwise, this was a horrible look for him considering the role he was supposed to represent...
