Of Gleaming Teeth and Fangs
[font=Bodoni Monotype] Cranberry scones were always Aurelia’s favorite on the Hogwart’s breakfast menu. On rare days that a basket full of those baked goods would sit on the Gryffindor table, taking one would be an immediate start to her day. Today Aurelia had grabbed one to go for she had woken up a few minutes too late.

However, upon bitting into the hard pastry, sudden pain verberated through her jaw causing her to wince. It was only recently, during the winter break, when she had braces set into her mouth. It hurt, especially when you had forgotten that your teeth were still getting accustomed to the foreign metal peices. Regardless, Aurelia needed to have her breakfast. The last thing she wanted was to end up in the hospital wing like how she did a month ago.
It was torture having to consume her favorite pastry nibble by nibble. Usually, it took about 2 mind for her to devour one but it had been almost 15 minutes and the cranberry scone remained in her grasp with its crumbs falling to the cobbled grounds. She had barely finished half and the girl was slowly losing patience. Damn those braces. Aurelia opened her mouth slightly once again with the metal gleaming in the light, ready to take another torturous bite.

Of Gleaming Teeth and Fangs
Where was the dreaded force of chaos and ignorance, that infamous little boy that so many avoided, and so many others sought after, for one reason or another. He was under a table, trying to sneak from one end of the great hall to the other. He made it about halfway when some random first year kicked out of boredom, and found, to his great surprise, that his foot did not swing freely through the air as he had intended, but instead struck a boy.
Kaegen, for his part, felt very much like he was intentionally attacked, and leaped out from underneath the table like a partridge ousted from it's bush. Out in between two fourth years, one foot planted on the bench, he launched himself over to the next table over, landing square in a salad. And as if nothing had happened, he hopped on the ground and walked towards the exit. He almost made it, despite all the eyes looking at him in disbelief. But then a glint caught his eyes, and he saw the most bizarre magical device to date.
It was lights. But her teeth had been chained down. Why were her teeth that powerful? Why did they warrant restraints? Were they trying to kill her? He knew he shouldn't, but the adrenaline was still rushing, and he was curious for the first time in a long while. And he knew lights. She wasn't exactly very strong.
"What did your teeth do?"

Giving up after a few more nibbles, Aurelia tossed the half eaten scone into the nearest bin. She would definitely be suffering another process during lunch time. It was already a really bad start to her day, not getting much breakfast. She would have to spend a few hours on an empty stomach.
Aurelia was asking down the corridors when she saw Kaegen. Kaegen, the boy who many said was a weird one. Aurelia had had an interview with him for the diadem the year before and also went on an adventure accompanied by another fellow Gryffindor and what was rumored was reasonably true, he was weird as they called it.
Aurelia gave him a polite smile. She hadn’t expected that he’d actually approached her but he did. He then proceeded to ask a question about her teeth and it was a rather odd one to be asking: What did her teeth do?
What did her teeth do to deserve braces? Nothing. She ate and bit like a normal person but the teeth on her lower jaw was slightly protruding out and were in odd positions which caused her mother to send her to the orthodontist to get them fixed. Upsetting it was to know for the next 2 years, she would be able to eat and bite like how she normally did.
“They’re braces. I had a slight underbite so my mom sent me to the orthodontist to have them pushed back and for the rest of my teeth to be straight.” She explained to the Ravenclaw.

Confusion. Confusion was not like the unknown. Confusion was when you were given the information, but didn't understand it. That was what had just happened, and he didn't like it at all. What were braces? He had to assume they were those shiny chains in light's mouth. Who was the orthodontist? Apparently, someone who pushed teeth. Why push teeth that were already chained up? It seemed a bit redundant. Unless your teeth fought back when you pushed them?
And why weren't her teeth straight? His were straight, right? The ravenclaw quickly ran his tongue over his teeth, both top and bottom. And then realized that they were not straight at all. They were all curved in a u shape. He had always had his teeth in his mouth, but he had never really paid much attention to them. And light's teeth sure didn't look straight, they had looked curved.
"It didn't do a good job. Your teeth are still curved."
He still didn't understand most of what was going on, and it was bothering him, a lot. He didn't have many nerves that weren't entirely frazzled, and his sleep schedule had been replaced with studying. That, combined with the fact that no one at this school ever made any sense was making him a very upset ex-prefect.
Still, none of his rising frustration showed, save a slight twitch in one of his fingers. His face remaining as tired as ever.
