The Great Lake
As Mary sat on the cool grass of the banks next to the lake, she let out a deep sigh. She'd often seen people milling around here, but she prefered, in ways she can't explain, her own company to theirs. Yes, she'd had plenty of friends at her old school, but her parents had pulled some strings too, being friends with their parents. Nobody she knew went there anymore. She'd written home, sending it off and was now awaiting their reply. She missed her pets, but being here, she felt happy- calm in a way she hadn't been with her old friends. Her parents had said they'd missed her, but truth be told, they probably forgot about her by now. Honestly, she couldn't have been less bothered. She'd forgotten one of their names as well. Something with a J maybe. The water rippled softly, the breeze blowing leaves into her face, and the trees of the Forbidden Forest loomed over her ominously. The water was cool, she could tell, and the Giant Squid probably was down there as well. Where else could it go? It's not like it could slither into the Great Hall- although the thought of that gave her the creeps. Imagine waking up one morning to find wet marks... no. Mary's imagination was getting the better of her now she was alone. Oh well. She had homework to get to, and she got up, brushed herself off and set up back to the school.
