Dear diary, today was my first day at Hogwarts. At first, I was super nervous because I'm going to be away from Mum and Dad for a long time, but once I got here, I wasn't as nervous. When we got off of the train, some adults led us to a spot with lots of boats near the Black Lake. We got in the boats and floated towards the giant castle surrounded by the dark water. I didn't know the people who sat in the boats with me, I was too intrigued by everything else to talk to anyone. The boat ride took a while, but not as long as the train ride on the Hogwarts express did. When we docked, the same adults ordered us to follow them, and then led us up into the castle. I was bewildered. I had never seen anything like this before. It was beautiful. Everyone behind me was having conversations, muttering about how excited they were to spend the year here. Finally, we had made it to the Great Hall, which my parents had already told me all about. It was exactly as I had imagined it. The same floating candles my parents had told me about, several long tables already filled with people and food. All eyes landed on us, the new group of first years. The people in the Great Hall paused there chatter momentarily, but went straight back to talking and laughing. Soon enough, I had been sorted into Slytherin. I was relieved, both of my parents were in Slytherin, and I didn't want to disappoint them. The Slytherin table clapped while I made my way over and found a spot that wasn't too crowded. I sighed happily. Finally, I was right were I belonged.
