Xio was out of breath by the time she made it to the top of the Owlery. It was her fourth day making this trek up, twice daily, and it still hasn't gotten any easier. Her usual spark of energy always felt sapped by the time she leaned on the top banister to catch her breath.
She stepped out onto one of the balconies and waited for an available owl, so her letter could be picked up. As she waited, she pulled out a slightly crumpled letter from her robe sleeve, the letter was written on light charcoal parchment. She opened, to her delight, was a letter from her childhood best friend, Enno. She couldn't help but smile widely as the letter was written in an ink that transitioned from teal blue to gold, her two favorite colors. She had made this ink for him before she left America, so that he would have no reason to say he couldn't write to her.
He did not fail. It was on her third afternoon at Hogwarts that she got his first letter. It was only a few sentences so she complained ALOT in her reply to him. He must've learned because this time he filled the page at least.
Of course she was pleased, she had successfully bullied him into writing what seemed like at least a 20 minute handwritten letter in the painfully colorful ink she had made for him.
The feeling of success can rarely be toppled, and she was excited to painfully rub it in his face. She took her own prepared letter out of her other robe sleeve and held it up in the air. It wasn't long until a owl swooped by and took her letter, as it flew away in the distance, she could still see the glitter stickers she decorated the entire outside of her letter with shimmer as the sun began to set.
