Taliesin couldn't quite account for this sudden change in routine. For one, with her leaving to go back to school so soon, her mother had been running her nearly ragged with early mornings and strict schedules to ensure that she would be exactly perfect before leaving again. Merlin forbid she experience a single stumbled this whole coming school year lest the whole Annwyn family fall to ruin somehow. In truth, most of the morning ran much the same as it had since her mother brought her to London for the season; up until she was informed that Nanny was going to be taking her out to Diagon Alley for some last minute school supplies.

Bright eyes flickered towards her nanny, who stood stiff and proper in the corner of the dinning room, as per usual at breakfast, but had a glint in her eye rarely witness since they left Wales. Something exciting must be happening, surely. Otherwise the old woman wouldn't look so excited. Though what they could still possibly need was beyond Taliesin guess. Mother had taken her personally weeks ago and to make sure everything she picked up was exactly correct. They hadn't left so much as a scrap of ribbon or a length of parchment behind.

All the same, dressed strictly despite the warm weather, Taliesin followed Nanny Morgan though the cramped streets of Diagon Alley. Swarths of families trying to get their last minute shopping done before sending off their respective students back to school. It seemed there were always so many people crowding the streets here, but in a way, Taliesin liked it. Despite so many people, no one of them gave her a glance, too caught up in their own lives to care about what she was doing. No one paid her any sliver of attention, which was a fine break from her mother's sharp, critical gaze.

Such musings were interrupted though when Nanny tugged her to a stop outside of the Menagerie. After years of this woman being her primary caretaker, all it had taken was a look. A flick of the woman's bright blue eyes towards the door and back again to her charge for it to click in Taliesin's mind. She was being brought to pick out her first pet. The excitement of it vibrated through her before dropping Nanny's hand, and in a most unsophisticated way that would've earned her such a lecture had Mother been here, hurried herself into the shop.

There was no need for her to think too hard about what she'd wanted. She'd been thinking about it all her life. Ever since she was promised that she'd be able to earn herself a pet if she did well her first year of school. She'd read books, she'd watched how her peers cared for their creatures, she'd spent hours of her childhood talking Nanny's ears off about what she was going to get, sometimes even managing to convince the woman to just let her look at the animals available at the Menagerie, even if she wasn't allowed to buy one yet.

She nearly threw herself at the rabbit section, eyes aglow at all the sweet faces twitching and sniffing at the walls of their enclosures. Some nibbling at the hay, others scooting or thumping about, others looking like perfect little loafs just watching the world go on around them. She even knew down to the coloring of what she wanted. Something warm and golden, like candlelight in a dark room.

Her eyes scanned over her options of potential friends before landing on one, who looked as though he was waiting for his turn at the front corner of his cage, his eyes locked on her as his little gold nose twitched. Really all of him was a pale gold, like morning sun bouncing off the waves at home, with large dark eyes. He watched her every move as she approached before he starting digging at the walls of his enclosure, as though trying to hurry to get to her. Taliesin couldn't help but smile at that thought.

The shopkeeper approached then, helping her retrieve the bunny before he all but leapt from the shopkeeper's hands and into her arms, trying to burrow himself close to her. That was truly all it took for Taliesin. She'd always heard that animal's have a way to selecting their owners; and if she'd been honest, she was afraid that she wouldn't have been able to tell when she was being picked or if she would be picked at all. She'd had very little success in her life making friends, and she'd feared that maybe it would extend to animals somehow too. In reality, she'd worried for nothing.

After all, trust from a prey animal wasn't something so easily won.
