"Dialogue"
After a long and overwhelming day, Sofia made her way to the library. Being a first year at Hogwarts was everything she had hoped for and more! She was enjoying her classes, and making friends. But it was just all so tiring. She was hoping the library's peaceful atmosphere would give her a place to relax away from the hectic outside world.
She wandered past some shelves and found a quiet corner to read. She sat on the floor, not glamorous but it was fine as long as she could read in peace. Reaching into her bag, she pulled out her favourite book, the one her mother gave her for her 10th birthday, 'The Tales of Beedle the Bard'. Sofia had always found something comforting about reading stories she already knew, especially when everything around her still felt so unfamiliar.
A sigh escaped her lips and she opened the book. Sofia soon became completely absorbed in the story, her attention fixed entirely on the words and pages. The familiarity of the book brought her a sense of comfort and before elong she has forgotten all about the stress of classes and unfamiliar faces.
She barely noticed quiet footsteps passing through the shelves or the occasional rustle of pages. Her attention was only broken away from the book when she heard someone gasp. Sofia looked up and saw a girl, a first year Sofia supposed. The girl was obviously surprised at the fact that someone was here. Sofia smiled and her eyes scanned over her briefly and she spotted a book in her hands.
"Hello. I'm Sofia, What's your name?" She spoke gently, Sofia was always up for making friends she just wasn't always the best at going up to people. But since the girl came up to her first, she decided to take the opportunity before it passed her by.
Her eyes wandered to the book in the girls hand. She wondered what it was. Maybe they could read together. That would be nice Sofia thought.

A Book for a Book

Mentions: @Sofia ClaytonNicole sighed, tucking back her blonde hair as she closed the thick textbook that was in front of her. Muggle History was really confusing, in a bad way, now that she was finally used to the whole ‘I-am-a-witch’ routine. The cover page was interesting, but that was the place where her excitement had died once she started reading the book. She stood up, holding the big book with both her hands. It was bigger than her head, which was definitely concerning.
She balanced a smaller novel on top of it. It looked ridiculous, compared to the size of the volume in her hand. It was a paperback copy of ‘The Famous Five’. Yes, it was a lame series but nevertheless, she still loved it like no other. Nicole whirled around instantly, when a soft voice introduced itself. A girl. Probably a first year, she thought with an internal sigh of relief. She said her name was Sofia. Sofia. It sounded like it belonged to a princess, but Nicole didn’t voice out her thoughts. It was already bad enough that she had to carrying a ginormous tome in her hands that looked as interesting as a golf match.
“Hi, Sofia,” She said after a while, clearing her throat before she spoke so it didn’t sound awkward. Nicole smiled to look more approachable, instead of the girl that looked like she was one bad idea away from bolting down the halls. “I’m Nicole.” She finally introduced. The girl—Sofia (God, she really should start to remember names)—looked friendly. And well, a bit of shyness that Nicole appreciated. People who looked like they could be friends with anyone terrified her a bit.

"Dialogue" Sofia smiled softly, she could Nicole was also nervous. It made her feel slightly better knowing that she wouldn't be the only award one. She saw Nicole shift slightly on her feet, Sofia could tell she felt awkward just standing there. "Um...do you want to sit down." She stuttered slightly, feeling shy for asking and scared for rejection. "I mean you don't have to...only if you want to." Sofia smiled reassuringly.
Trying to clear the awkwardness in the air she spoke again. "Do you like reading?...sorry that's a dumb question...your holding a book." Sofia laughed softly, she had a habit of stumbling over her words of saying the wrong things when she was a nervous. She hoped it wouldn't drive Nicole away.
She blushes furiously, gosh Sofia, you always have to mess up your words don't you. Her embarrassment evident in the way she fiddled with her hands. She looked down shyly. "Sorry if I sound dumb...I'm just nervous." She smiled again, if anything ever goes wrong Sofia automatically defaults to smiling, she can't help it.
She nervously glanced back up at Nicole, unsure of what to say next. Her fingers continued to fidget with the edge of her sleeve as she waited. Maybe I should just stop talking. No, that would probably make things even more awkward.
Sofia took a small breath, trying to calm herself down. She gave Nicole another nervous smile before gesturing towards the bench beside her. "You can sit down if you want. I promise I won't keep asking you weird questions." She gave a tiny laugh at her own words, hoping that somehow it would make the situation feel less awkward. Then she fell quiet, waiting patiently for Nicole to decide what she wanted to do.

A Book for a Book

She felt a flower of hope blooming in her chest. Finally, someone who was as socially awkward as she was. This was God’s gift for her. She nodded enthusiastically, a part of her worries that her eyeballs would rattle off her skull. Nope. Gotta keep all the gory details to the minimum, she scolded herself. “I’d love that,” she said gently, noticing the other girl’s nervousness that mirrored her own. That might or might not be one of the reasons that she felt more amiable to her rather than other people.
“I, ah, I gotta keep this huge book away first,” Nicole said, sliding off her paperback novel off the thick volume. She hummed as she walked towards the section of Muggle History. It smelled like hope had shrivelled up and died. And also the scent of candles. She whiffed a faint trace of jasmine. Or maybe her brain was fried from reading all those long and complex paragraphs and confusing chapters. With much effort, she placed the book back where she’d taken it from. Wiping a bead of sweat from her brow, she skipped back to the table where the other girl sat.
“I love reading, actually. It’s one of my favourite thing to do to pass some time,” Nicole chirped out, already warming up to her. She slid into a chair next to her, hands on the table as she leaned in a bit. “The other thing would be Scrabble and Pictography,” Nicole chattered away, filling up the silence with friendliness. When the other girl asked what boom she was reading, Nicole perked up.
“Ooh, it’s ‘The Famous Five’!” Nicole smiled brightly at her. But then, a situation from the past came up. Her, happily telling her favourite book series in her previous Muggle school where people called her lame for reading a child’s book. Crossing her fingers underneath the sleeve of her robe, she prayed the situation wouldn’t repeat itself. “I mean—I know it’s lame but it’s my comfort series,” She said softly, the smile on her face turning a bit strained.

"Dialogue" A smile lit up Sofia's face laced with a hint of confusion, she didn't find me strange?. She pushed those thoughts out of her mind and looked back up at Nicole as she put her heavy book out they way. "Wow, that's a big book." Sofia exclaimed admirably. She's always wanted to have a massive book it's even in her Hogwarts bucket list
Sofia's anxious thoughts about Nicole not wanting to sit with her subside and her body language turns from very shy and nervous, to less shy and nervous. She waited for Nicole to return from putting her book back on the shelf and when the other girl explained the the book she was reading was The Famous Five, Sofia audibly gasped. "Sorry." She giggled. "It's just..I love The Famous Five, I actually used to have a copy of it. But I left it at home when I came to Hogwarts." a sad sigh escaped her lips before she brightened up again when Nicole sat next to her.
At first there was a comfortable silence, before either of them spoke again. Sofia glanced down at her hands, then over at Nicole, she wasn't quite sure what to say next but didn't want the silence to become awkward. "Um..." her eyes lit up brightly. "So...what's your favourite book?"
Her smile grew wider as she waited for an answer wait Sofia your smiling weirdly you probably look creepy. She looked away and when she looked back she had a small smile on her face.
