A botched back  Finished
You know how adults dumb things down for little kids, or gloss things over?
Yeah, that was happening way too much.
Rowan had little to no idea what was happening. The only thing he knew was why he was there, and what his healer’s name was. Ms. Victoria. She kept saying how they were so similar. She was going to school and he was going to school! In his opinion, that wasn’t something to be bragging about in this case.

His spinal chord had been broken in two places. Both complete breaks, if that tells you anything.
He was young, but not a complete incompetent child.

They were telling him nothing, and it was pissing him off. He had yelled at his father earlier to tell him what they were going to do to him, but his father just turned around and said,

“Let the adults handle this, Rowan. You’ll be fine.”

Well whatever they were doing didn’t feel like it was fine. It felt like two hands were shoving his spine back together very forcefully. Except you know like when you shove two things together, but they slip to the sides instead of going together? Yeah. That’s what it felt like currently.
Which was pretty much just a whole lot of pain.

He tried screaming this at them as he thrashed around, trying to get the wretched healer’s hands off his back. Whatever she was doing it was wrong and only making it worse by the minute, pushing each piece back and forth in his back, until eventually he passed out.

When he woke up, everything just seemed numb. He couldn’t feel his toes, much less his legs. They let him sit in recovery for a week. Rowan still wasn’t getting better, and finally the staff came forward.
And you know who his father blamed, when he was informed that Rowan’s back wouldn’t be healing whatsoever any time soon? Just take a guess.
If you didn’t guess Rowan himself, you were wrong.

“If you had just sat still- she could have done her job! You couldn’t have handled it for ten more seconds until she was done?! Honesty this is on yo-“

There was a point where Rowan couldn’t take anymore. Father kept raising his voice, more and more angry by the second. Rowan spoke in a low and calm tone, not fighting to be heard, but merely talking over him. It always worked better.

“You will not push this on me. You let a Healer-in-training work on me, when it was this severe of an injury. You know fully well she was still learning, and you did not take into account the fact that she may not have been prepared for an operation like this. This is not my fault father. If anything, it is yours. Now if you will, I believe I am scheduled to return to Hogwarts tomorrow, with the assistance of their nurses. I intend to sleep well, so I am prepared for tomorrow.”

His father stormed out soon after, done arguing. And as stated, Rowan returned to Hogwarts a day later.

Often lying, but not to you.
