The Exploring and the Cello
Once Millicent Barnes had gotten to Hogwarts, she decided to explore the castle and all it had to offer. So, of course, she took the conventional route; she visited each floor, seeing the rooms in which it held.
Most floors held classrooms which, she supposed, was normal for a school. But as she wasn't enrolled in classes yet, she decided not to venture inside. She might get someone or herself in trouble.
Probably myself.
Besides, her parents were already afraid enough of magic as it was. She did not need herself getting expelled from possibly the best magic school around!
Millicent finally came to the fourth floor, breathing hard. Sweat beaded her forehead and her throat felt so dry.
"Who suggested black robes in the fall?" she panted out.
Suddenly Millicent stopped. What's that noise?
She felt her ears perk up (if ears could do that) and heard a musical instrument. She'd been to a few concerts in her day and had been on YouTube, so she guessed it was an orchestral instrument, maybe the cello.
She followed the noise and peeked into the rehearsal room. She saw a curly, brown-haired girl playing the cello.
Millicent felt her eyes shine with admiration.
I didn't know that people could play musical instruments here! Or that they could be so talented! Do you learn it with magic?
She quietly approached the girl, wearing a tentative smile so she wouldn't scare her off. She tapped her on the shoulder.
"U-Um, hi. I'm Millicent." Get it together, Millie! "I'm a first year and... I-I hope you don't mind me saying, but your playing is so pretty. I mean, you probably get told that a lot, but I wanted you to know."

Damaris had gone up to the fourth floor to practice the cello a bit; it wasn't hers—it belonged to the school—but she loved coming up to play it. It made her feel less anxious and fearful. Even though she had already spent a year at Hogwarts, she remained just as timid as she had been at eleven—something that stressed her out, as she already had friends and felt she shouldn't still be feeling this way. She poured all those thoughts and emotions into the cello, playing a melody that was powerful yet elegant and graceful, though marked by abruptness in certain passages that revealed her deepest feelings. She was so immersed in the music she was creating—her eyes closed—that she didn't notice the other girl in the room. She didn't look up or sense her presence until the girl spoke, making her jump slightly and break off her melody in surprise as she opened her eyes to see who it was. Upon realizing the girl looked younger than her, she relaxed—not because she was no longer nervous, but because she felt less intimidated; it was a reaction that, to an observer, might have seemed endearing, though she didn't feel that way around younger children.
"Thanks... though I don't think it's that good; I... it's something I'm working on" Damaris said, keeping the cello close to her with a small smile on her lips.
"I'm Damaris... I'm a second-year" she said kindly, wanting to let the girl know she was welcome to come closer if she wished.

The Exploring and the Cello
Millicent Barnes felt a smile come to her mouth before she could even register it. She felt that she and this girl could become friends as soon as she saw her and turns out, her intuition was right.
Is it my intuition? Or magic sense?
She shrugged.
Doesn't matter. But of course, if it did, magic sense all the way.
"Your playing was very good, Damaris! I don't know much about instruments admittedly, but I think you play very well! What song did you play? When did you start? You must really love it for prioritizing it at Hogwarts."
Millicent felt a little embarrassed for having come off as an overeager, overexcited first year (even if that was what she was) but she really was excited to get to know her. Admittedly, she didn't have a lot of friends right now (or acquaintances for that matter) so she was eager to meet whoever she could.
(In all reality, Millicent might've known a lot of people, but she was very sociable. Offer her almost any chance to meet people and she'd almost always take it.)
"Also! What house are you in? I'm Hufflepuff. You look like a Gryffindor, but maybe not. I don't know."
