Vivienne had never been one for teary goodbyes. She liked to believe that goodbyes were supposed to be happy, cheerful promises to meet again.

And yet, here she was, wiping her tears as she hugged her brothers for the last time until the train would return for the Winter Break. She really would miss them more than she'd ever want to admit to anyone. The contrast was almost odd—since the last few months, she had been beyond excited to finally go to Hogwarts. But there was something bittersweet about Platform 9¾; Every year it was a place of beginnings, yet it was always filled with goodbyes.

In front of her, the scarlet Hogwarts Express stood proudly against the platform, clouds of steam curling into the cool September air. It would take her to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where she would spend the majority of the next 7 years of her life and learn how to use her magic. She wasn't sure whether that idea made her feel more anxious or thrilled.

She'd heard tales of it from her uncles and father, as often reminisced when they got together at gatherings. It seemed like a fun place. Although that perception might just be because her father occasionally appeared something other than stern when he remembered his days there.

Anyhow, she stood up from where she was kneeling down to hug her brothers—they hadn't reached puberty yet—to bid her final goodbyes to her parents.

Around the station, witches and wizards hurried in every direction, owls hooted from their cages, and trunks rattled across the cobblestones. She picked up her trunk from the floor, and took a deep breath before she started walking toward the train.

This was it. She was going to Hogwarts.
