The Farewells  Open   closed
Fay was nervous, not only because she was leaving home for her new school but because she would be away from her parents and the rest of her family for the first time in like ever. They were a tightly bound family and they meant the world to each other. Now she was off to school and it felt like everything was going to change.

Mum and Dad were there giving hugs and her little cousins were running around the platform like the mad things they were, with Uncle John lunging around after them. Aunt Nancy was wiping the baby's mouth off and Gran was softly crying. It made her want to cry to. Is this what it had felt like for Nick when he left for scho... Stop it Fay! Don't don't think about him, she chided herself.

"Mum! Enough already! I have to go now," she protested after the thirtieth hug. "Yes, yes, I will write every day and I will be good. Dad, please! You are embarrassing me," she claimed half-heartedly as he checked her belongings again. "I will stay out of the Forbidden Forest and will do my home work and yes, I will eat my greens. I am going now! Love you!" she waved to her entire family as she stepped on to the train and stood by the window waving to them, trying to mask her own nerves.
