Little Discoveries solo

When four year old Latoya Driskell had decided that staying inside was simply not an option the morning sun had barely climbed above the horizon. Her dark hair was still slightly messy from sleep and her bare feet carried her across the sandy ground outside of her family's home. The warm breeze came off the water and tugged gently at the loose dress that she's wearing and with it it carried the familiar scent of saltwater and greenery.

Latoya squinted toward the shoreline as she paused for a moment. The ocean was calling. Well perhaps it wasn't actually calling but to Latoya it certainly felt like it was. She hurried toward the water but stopped when she noticed that something was moving between the rocks. A tiny crab scuttled sideways before it disappeared into a shallow pool. This made Latoya gasp. "Mika!" Her twin brother's name had came out much louder than she intended it to.

She crouched down and peered into the water with her eyes wide as if the crab might reappear if she stared hard enough. However when it didn't she carefully poked at the water with on finger. "E lako i vei?" "Where did it go?" A few moments later her twin brother Mika appeared behind her because he probably followed her voice rather than having any idea what his twin was excited about. Latoya immediately began to explain what had happened and was using enthusiastic hand gestures despite the fact that the crab was already gone and she and Mika are both four.

She soon forgot all about the crab when she spotted a brightly colored fish which darted through the shadows. "Raica!" "Look!" Latoya followed the fish along the edge of the water and laughed as it disappeared beneath a cluster of rocks. She wanted to know where it went. She wanted to know what it was called. She wanted to know where it lived. And she wanted to know whether there were more hiding nearby. There always was something new to discover.

Eventually her mom called from father up the beach and reminded the twins not to wander too far. Reluctantly Latoya turned back and took one last lingering glance at the glittering water. She didn't know it yet but these little walks would become some of her favorite moments as well as memories. The world has always been full of things worth discovering especially for Latoya.
