Excitement wasn't even remotely the right word for what Novalie was feeling right now.
She was sitting on the ground in the courtyard, her back pressed against the cold stone wall, knees pulled up to her chest and in her hands, she held nothing less than the promise of a feeling she would, for the first time ever, get to experience.
The delicate little glass felt exceptionally warm between her fingers, the pink liquid inside shimmering beautifully as she twirled it around a little. It literally looked like love as a drink. The tiny note knotted around the bottle's neck revealed its name, Amortentia.
Fascinated by its mere appearance alone already, the Metamorphmagus held it up against the setting sun. The potion sparkled within the glass, casting lovely shades of different pink hues that made it seem almost too precious to drink.
How could a potion possibly make someone feel so awestruck by nothing but its appearance?
Novalie sighed dreamily. And then opened it with a little plopp.
Well, there was no use admiring its beauty any further when in the end, nothing else happened, right? And oh, she so wanted something to happen to her! What exactly? She didn't know.
She had heard that Amortentia would make someone fall in love with the next person they encountered - or something along those lines.
Which was rather curious, in a way, because Novalie already liked literally everyone around her. She could swear that for most of her friends, she already harbored a deep love. So how exactly would this work now? Would she feel even more love, if that was even possible? Or would it twist itself into something completely different, something negative that she should have never felt?
An excited squeak escaped the girl's lips at the mere imagination of whatever might overcome her without warning.
And she obviously didn't spare a single thought for who might get involved in her little experiment. Because where would be the fun in that?

Without thinking about it any further, Novalie brought the glass to her lips and, with one quick tilt of her head, drank the entire thing in one go.
She then made the satisfied sound of someone who had just gulped down the most refreshing drink imaginable on a hot summers day, wiping her mouth with the sleeve of her robe afterward.
It hadn't tasted bad, it also hadn't tasted good. Somehow, it had tasted like.. nothing, realy. Nothing with just a bit of sweetness, maybe.
The girl looked down at the now-empty potion glass, sniffing at it for a moment. It had a pleasant smell, though. Was that burning ash? She wasn't entirely sure.
What she did know however, was that she didn't feel any different from before.
Novalie looked down at her hands, straightened her head and glanced around. Most of the students had already left the courtyard. Letting her gaze wander toward the castle entrance, she didn't think much of it when the doors opened and a familiar figure stepped outside.

And that was precisely the moment when everything changed.

In an instant, her long red curls suddenly shifted in color, transforming into a pastel pink shade reminiscent of cotton candy. Her widened eyes, usually emerald green, became the same shade, only a bit more vivid, a bit more luminous, while her black pupils shifted from round into hearts shaped.
A delicate blush blossomed across her cheeks and the bridge of her nose, her breath hitched and her entire body stiffed for a moment as she took in the overwhelming feeling that suddenly flooded through her.
...Was this ... love?
Was this what love actually felt like? This... exciting and warm and fuzzy?!

Novalie couldn't tear her eyes away from the one person who had caused this sudden infatuation within her, the one who had just stepped into the courtyard, seemingly occupied by something else, his legs carrying him gracefully as though he were on some important mission. His robe swayed behind him, giving absolute mystery and coolness.
She found his face, his handsome, sharp face...
Those impossibly dark eyes, serious without him even having to say a word, his high cheekbones only added to the sternness of his expression, while his pointed ears were undeniably striking. And his black hair... was so well styled!

Novalie clapped a hand over her mouth.
She was seeing him.
Not just Harvey, the fun friend she'd already had a ravishing battle with in the library before, or the boy she'd danced wildly in the rain with. Not just someone she had already thought was incredibly nice.
No, this was far more than that.
She saw him as a boy. As someone she'd already been so close to physically that her heart skipped a beat at the mere awareness of his presence.
The Ravenclaw didn't waste another second.
Jumping to her feet, Novalie hurriedly cut off his path, staring at him with her big pink eyes while her lips curled into an excited grin,
"Harvey! Oh my god!"
Both hands flew to her cheeks as she looked at him like a fangirl who had just met her favorite superstar in person.
Her gaze roamed over his eyes, his lips, his hands, than back to his eyes again.
A million questions suddenly pushed their way through her hyperactive mind, every single one having something to do with getting closer to him. But now that she was actually standing right in front of him, she hesitated.
Almost as if she were... embarrassed.
"I- uh..."
The blush on her cheeks deepened as she quickly blinked her gaze away from him, completely bewildered by this sudden, unfamiliar feeling of losing control over her usually extroverted and blunt self.

Infatuation Overdrive PV Harvey Barrows
@Novalie Moon
Beginning of term, end of their second week back at school. Harvey moved with purpose around the castle as the lad took care of business. He held his nose in the air towards those of his peers that scattered around in a panic. Proper planning prevents piss poor performance, the words of his grandfather rung through his mind. They wasted their summers with holidays and picnics while they should have been preparing themselves for third year! The boy wouldn't admit it of course, but he felt that pressure too. School was hard enough already and now they had even more courses to tackle. Muggle Studies and Runes he could handle, but Care of Magical Creatures and Divination?! The thought of those classes made him shudder. Why in the name of Merlin did they need to know these things, but master them he would.

With a sigh Harvey kept himself from getting too frustrated by it all and made his way for the courtyard. While no outdoor enthusiast by any means, the lad had taken to enjoying a bit of a stroll or a leisurely flight around the grounds to help clear his mind before dinner and then more studies. So, he pushed the grand doors open and let the fresh air wash over him. There was already a nip in the Scottish Highland breeze. Quite refreshing now, but it did hint at the autumn and winter soon to come. Small legs carried him forward. A flash of pink stopped him in his tracks. What a horrid color. Why would anyone change their hair to that color...

HER!

Harvey's eyes popped with a mix of recognition and a slight bit of terror as Novalie came to stand directly in front of him. While her metamorphic powers were quite impressive, what on earth was she playing at! "Novalie, why?" Was all the boy could manage as he looked her over. Cotton candy hair, heart shaped pupils, cheeks a rosy red, hands now clasped to either side of her face. "What's the matter with you? Are you ill?" Surely she must be as Nova began to stutter and mumble. Merlin knows she was not one to ever be at a loss for words. Harvey's beady eyes darted around the scene, but unfortunately there wasn't anyone around to pawn her off to. As he returned his gaze to her he would be left in an unfamiliar state of ignorance.

Matters of the heart find everyone eventually, but to Harvey it always seemed a bit distant. Like it belonged to others more than it ever would to him. Perhaps that was just his practical and analytic nature. Those feelings really don't make sense when you think about them. Or maybe it was just the lack of examples in his personal life. Harvey's grandfather had long since been divorced and his own parents were never an item to begin with. Either way he was not well tuned to that telling look Novalie had presented him. "Do you need the hospital wing?" The boy was doomed...
