As Bartholomew stepped through the threshold of the Ministry-organized summer camp, he was overwhelmed by a sense that he had crossed into another universe. While the outside was made of simple logs, the inside of the cabin was surprisingly bare and calm. Sitting in the cozy silence, Bartholomew admired the dark blue walls and the lovely view of candles hovering in the air, casting dancing shadows on them. It was all so calming and homey compared to the noisy and busy world he had left to join this camp.
However, before going any further, he decided to have a look at the list of cabin members. Taking the wooden board that was nailed to the wall beside the entrance, Bartholomew scanned the names on it. "Error 404 Not Found," he muttered, almost chuckling. It sure was an unusual name for a cabin, but he would soon get used to the surprises. After he finished studying the list, a sudden realization hit him – he was not alone. A lot more people were going to be here. As Bartholomew read the names, he announced them in his mind: "Mavis Blair, Lily Clarke, Lauren Vanes, Marcella Di Angelo, Laverne Taylor, Bartholomew Lindenmomo, Tina Carille, Robin Lockett, River Grimes, and Lorenzo Abel Charles." There was going to be a decent amount of new faces to study, but, at the moment, the cabin seemed to be empty.
As he hiked his duffel bag onto his shoulder, he formally entered the common area of their cabin. It was in the corner that his eyes landed on something unusual – or, rather, someone. A girl had claimed one of the beds for her belongings, decorating it with pastel-colored flowers and pretty fairy lights. Set against the dark blue curtains, the cheerful pink seemed to sparkle with life. It was a lovely contrast that Bartholomew admired deeply.
Sitting in a big armchair, the mysterious girl read a thick Muggle book. "At least someone else appreciates a good reading book," Bartholomew thought, noting the calm aura surrounding the girl. "She must be either Marcella or Tina. Her presence alone is telling me that."
With a few steps back, Bartholomew took an empty bed beside the occupied one. He dropped his bag on the mattress, sending a soft 'thud' echoing through the cabin. In his turn, the girl gave him a friendly nod. "Looks like I am not the only early arriver," Bartholomew said in an equally quiet tone, not wanting to disturb the girl. "I am Bartholomew Lindenmomo. Your setup is absolutely amazing, by the way. Those pink fairy lights truly shine against the dark blue."

𝕾ummer was chaotic for Robin. Well, is, since there's still a month left before he can return to Hogwarts. Home is somewhere the boy can usually find comfort in, but this was the first time he felt . . . alone, even though he was around his family for the past month. It's a minor problem, really, just an unexplained misunderstanding. Robin never told his parents about the events that transpired in his second semester, a shady experiment, detention gone wrong, detention at all! For all they know, their son is just a pathetic recluse with his eyes on studying and nothing more, certainly not socializing, and he can't even give a good reason for his behavior. Whenever school life came up in conversations during the summer, Robin would glue his mouth shut under the bombardment of questions. His mother, usually very kind and laid back, couldn't take any more of his evasion. "There's no need to" wasn't good enough for "why don't you socialize more", so she exploded. That might be an overstatement, she just loudly went on a rant about how important forming interpersonal relationships are, nothing physical or devastating. Towards the end of her speech, Robin let out a sigh that seemed to change her tone from somewhat playful lecturing to a single tired comment.
"I really hope I know what is wrong with you." That was just a whisper, possibly unintended, but both Robin and his father heard it. Jeremy finally stepped in to change the topic, and Myrcelle, surprised by her own words, apologized quickly before joining in on the new conversation. Robin silently munched on his bread, and neither of them interrupted his meal again, they were busy covering up the awkwardness with their own light-hearted talks.
Either way, Robin was "encouraged" to attend summer camp. Not like he didn't want to, at least this time it's Ministry themed, so the Department of Mysteries—Robin's dream job—would be part of it. Myrcelle also emphasized balls, she repeatedly reminded him that Hogwarts balls are fun, and the fact that Robin didn't attend either one in his first year was a disgrace to the magical academy. That it was "abnormal" for a kid his age to not participate in the fun. That convinced the boy, it left him wondering who to invite for a dance . . . no, that is probably still to advanced for him, he'd prefer to just sit back and eat the foods.
Robin shook his head as he walked up the winding path leading to his cabin, he just got directions from a faculty member near the entrance. Focus, he told himself. Focus on the camp. Observe, act normal, be normal. He halted as he reached the cabin's front door, a bit earlier than he predicted. The many thoughts galloping through his mind must have hastened his movement subconsciously. "Error 404", whatever that means. Robin is not at all familiar with computers, so he only thought of the word "error" in the context of academic research. He signed up for the Department of Mysteries, after all. That gave him the impression that everyone in his cabin would also be academics, he'll see how true that is in the coming days.
The boy shifted his backpack, glanced at the names listed under the plaque, then took a deep breath before pushing open the door. It creaked slightly as Robin stepped in and surveyed his surroundings. He quickly realized that he was not the first one here, but no matter, the other corner of the room was still open. Robin quietly put his backpack on the bed and his trunk next to it, then sat himself down facing the strangers on the opposite side of the rather large room. An eyebrow was raised when he realized the staggering contrast between the overall decor and a specific student's aesthetic. Pastel pink and dark blues . . . not exactly clashing, but definitely not merging together unnoticed. A girl was reading amongst that small blob of pink, someone Robin recognized from Ravenclaw. A fellow first year—second year now—though their interactions never extended to even a greeting. The other early bird, a boy with black hair like him but not as tidy, seemed to be talking to her. They were the only three arrivals at the cabin, which relieved Robin somewhat. Only a bit though, since if he wants to follow his mother's wishes and make a change to his "abnormal" lifestyle, he'd have to initiate a conversation instead of always being dragged into one.
"Hallo, I'm Robin Lockett, 'Robin' as in the bird and 'Lockett' like the necklace thing but with two 't's. Um—" he thought of what to say, but realized that there's no need for anything too lengthy before the others come. Then he'd have to introduce himself all over again. So he settled with something simple. "What are your names?"

| C | 𝕿he summer was not the girl's favourite time of the year. The winter, yes. The Autumn, well yes, as long as it involves apple cider. And she sucks it up with Spring because of Ava. Other than that, the whole ordeal felt like a dream. Or better termed as a fretful nightmare she couldn't wake up from. The young girl had been assigned to a cabin and her best friend to another. She felt lost as she had no idea how she was to survive an entire month of coping with new faces, new voices, new personalities and new everything. Marcella shook her head to clear her thoughts as it was starting to take a dark turn. She didn't brood. Well, not visibly at least. She brooded in a way where it makes the person around her feel as if they were witnessing something unspeakable. A sudden pang made her gasp for breath. Memories of what happened the month before attacked her. "It's not your fault Marcella!" and "I love you!" haunted her mind. His last words... She caught her breath and shakily walked forward up the winding path that lead to her cabin Everything will be fine. You will be fine. Just stay normal. And keep yourself in check and everthing will be okay. She wondered whether she'd fit in. What if she stuck out like a sore thumb or worse blended in to the background like a chameleon. She stood before the cabin door as she took a deep breath in. Her name was on the list. She looked up and read the plague with the Cabin's name. The summer camp this time was Ministry themed, so when she first read about it her eyes immediately landed on the Department of Mysteries section and she had signed up. Atleast she's far away from her family.... "Error 404 Not Found In The System....Very peculiar". Having her aunt be a muggle was a great advantage to the pureblood girl. She knew the basic elements of a computer. And she was well versed in it, enough to understand an internet pun anyway. A slow, silent laugh escaped her. She quickly stiffled it. That felt wrong. Laughing was wrong. She shouldn't laugh after what happened. Not when she made it happen. It was a good thing I wasn't assigned in a cabin with Ava. She took a moment to read all the names on the list. Lily....Lauren... she only knows them...a bit at the very least. She took another set of deep breaths. And steeled herself and put on a mask of confidence and walked in. She looked over at the three people already present there. Two of them were familiar as she had seen them here and there in the Ravenclaw comon room. But they had never interacted before. The other was an unkown gryffindor. She probably saw him before this, but she doesn't remember. She sighed. She quickly went over to the girls' side of the cabin and kept her bag on the bed and her trunk beside it. She gave herself a minute to collect herself. "Hello, My name is Marcella di Angelo. It is a pleasure to meet all of you." She said trying to set her mouth in what she guess was a smile. But it was hard to do that, after all that has happened. Even the most simple thing failed when she tried. |
