Where Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?

Cursa was having a blast! He'd arrived from Boston by trans Atlantic carriage on the second, and what a ride that was! Winged beasts drawing a train of coaches through the air. Not quite as much fun as flying a broom, in his opinion, but certainly more comfortable. And thankfully no one had tried to blow the thing up like what happened in Hogsmeade a couple years ago.
That memory was still raw in his mind. He still wanted to kill whoever was behind it. What was strange about the whole thing, Cursa mused, after it happened and he and Colin had given their statements to that auror he never read anything much about it afterwards. Nothing on the wireless. Nothing in the papers. Not even the fringe pseudo-magic conspiracy-theorist rags talked about it.
"Pah!" he huffed. "Probably a MACUSA cover-up, you know, eh."

CURSA "Er? What? I dinna think the string of Cailean's snogging partners quite rises to the level of an international scandal, lad!" Liam said. His confused look, mirrored that of cousin Lily's. Cursa tried desperately to recall what they'd been talking about over their late dinner. Think Cursa, think! he urged himself. He gave a soft laugh to cover his embarrassment over having lost the train of conversation. His thoughts had drifted back to the terror attack in Hogsmeade. Right. The destroyed carriages. The journey over the Atlantic.

His gaze wandered over the sparse crowd in the Leaky Cauldron. Most looked like they might be aurors in for a late night dinner or travellers just arrived in London. One person caught his attention. He was smart enough not to allow his gaze to linger. A young woman staring in their direction. Wild red hair. Something familiar... Cursa clicked his fingers. He had it! "Colin!"
Lily laughed. Liam replied: "Aye! Cail and his string of lip locking lassies! Honestly, Cursa, he ---"

"No!" Cursa hissed. "Colin. Where is he? He said he was going for a pish. How long does that take, eh? Where is the bathroom in this place, anyway?" Cursa looked around to see if he could find Colin walking back towards their table with a smirk on his lips. Probably out snogging when he should be writing super gushy poetry for Emily!
"Oh, I don't think he'd take a bath in the toilet, Cursa!" Lily giggled. Cursa saw Liam shoot his sister a look. And then it struck him. Cursa laughed too. And then Liam joined in. "Ah! Right ye
lot take yer pishes in the bath in America. We just use the toilet!" They fell silent for a while. Cursa let his gaze wander over towards the bar. The wild looking red haired girl, he made sure to keep her in his peripheral vision.
"Say, Liam, Lily. Don't make it obvious. But that red haired girl over there, leaning against the booth. I'd swear she looks familiar, eh, like someone you and Colin told me about. And that murderous looking thug in the booth. I ---" Cursa leaned in to whisper. "Ain't that --- I haven't seen him in years, you know, but ain't that Hamish?"

Lily had been having the best summer so far. Her Liam, and Colin had come to the Leaky Cauldron to meet up with Cursa, their cousin from America. The four had had their dinner together, enjoying their time as family. Colin had mentioned something about going to the bathroom, leaving Liam, Cursa, and her to talk. Lily had always got along with Cursa, had seen him a bit the year she had attended Ilvermony. Lily gave Cursa a confused look when he suddenly blurted out that it was probably a Macusa coverup. "A what coverup?" Lily asked, blinking in confusion. She pulled her hair back in a ponytail to keep it out of her dinner. She was letting it grow a bit this year and had even put some purple highlights in it. Colin and Liam had thought it looked cool, though they did wonder why she didn't just do it by magic. She had pointed out that she'd rather not have her hair accidentally turn green. She was a Gryffindor after all, not a Slytherin!
Cursa suddenly snapped his fingers, saying Colin's name. Lily just laughed shaking her head. She did notice however, that Cursa's eyes were currently taking in every inch of the room. Then he was asking what was taking him so long, and Lily responded with "Oh, I don't think he'd take a bath in the toilet, Cursa! That's kind of gross to be honest!" She giggled, though a pit in her stomach was telling her that something was off. And that was confirmed the minute that Cursa told them that Lark and Hamish were here. Lily tensed, exchanging a worried glance with Liam and she reached forward and took a sip of her butter beer, her eyes falling on Lark. She looked away, pretending like she didn't recognize her but she leaned forward, dropping her voice. " That's the girl that thought she would marry Colin. She turned violent when Colin couldn't remember who she was. And isn't Hamish our jerk of a cousin that none of us likes?" She whispered, before her eyes swept the room and landed on another person sitting behind Hamish but also watching them. "There's someone else with them. That man behind Hamish. Scraggly, sallow look, and sunken in face. Looks like he hasn't showered in weeks." Lily didn't stare instead she leaned into Liam. "Liam, maybe you should go check on Colin. I don't think it's a coincidence that these people are here. There's a reason why their watching us and I don't like it." She took a bite of her food, trying to appear nonchalant but deep down she was truly worried, and she could see it reflected in Cursa.

Cursa listened intently as Lily filled in the gaps about Lark. Clearly Colin had left a long string of snogging partners and at least one fiancée in his wake. "That's the girl that thought she would marry Colin," Lily said.
Liam nodded with a low chuckle. "Did a right job on his bawbies did Lark. Lad coud ne wawk fer a week!"
Lily smirked. "She turned violent when Colin couldn't remember who she was." Cursa's eyes widened at the horror of it all. He groaned involuntarily.
"Lark's a real bitch, you know, eh. I don't know her, but she's definitely familiar to me, because she goes to Ilvermorny. I think she's a year or two ahead? Or she got held back or something. She's a little older anyway. How does Colin get mixed up with these people, eh? She's the kind of girl you don't mess with. She's got a gang and everything that follows her around and pretty much does whatever she tells them to do, you know."

CURSA They snuck another quick glance towards the far side of the common room.
"And isn't Hamish our jerk of a cousin that none of us likes?" Lily asked. The two boys nodded in unison. It struck Cursa that Lily wasn't around back when he and the twins met Hamish.
"'S òinseach mhor," Liam muttered. (1)
"You're a real McCoire, you know that Lils? I dunno what Liam just said, but it didn't sound good! Gotta hate the right people, you know, eh!" Liam sneered. "I remember one time when I was visiting up in Scotland. We were, what was it, Liam, nine --- no, ten years old!" Liam nodded, the sneer turning into a low snarl. "Easy mate," Cursa said softly. "He and his gang were inducting us younger kids into the clan, you know. He said something stupid about one of the boys and Colin stood up to him. Well, old Hamish whipped out a rusty old knife and flicked that down across Colin's face before any of could even react! Then he made us run around and do mock battles all morning.

That was actually fun! Colin was bleeding like stink, you know, so me and Liam told Hamish he'd better fix him up before he bled to death. Well, Hamish would hear nothing of the sort, you know, eh. One of the other cousins gave us a really sneaky smirk and said he'd do it. I didn't know anything about wands back then, you know. But I do remember it had a crack in it. When he cast the spell, I could see sparks arcking all along it and the air smelled funny. Anyway, that's how Colin got his scar!"
Liam huffed.
Cursa could tell the boy was getting all hot under the shirt about the company that had gathered in the Cauldron.
Lily said: "There's someone else with them. That man behind Hamish. Scraggly, sallow look, and sunken in face. Looks like he hasn't showered in weeks."
Cursa hadn't paid him much notice. Liam gave him and Lily a feral look. His nose crinkled the way Colin's did when he was upset and angry about

something. He scooched a little closer to Lily. His eyes lowered to Liam's fists. They were clenched and pale. "Get yourself ready, Lils," Cursa advised. Something was going on in Liam's head that he wasn't sharing. That was unusual.
Lily nodded. "Liam, maybe you should go check on Colin. I don't think it's a coincidence that these people are here. There's a reason why they're watching us and I don't like it."
"Cail...? I canna hear ..." Liam whispered. Cursa looked around. Colin hadn't shown up, so who was he talking to? And then quick as crocuses in winter, Liam shot up from the table and turned towards the back corridor of the Cauldron. "Come on!" he grunted.
Cursa and Lily didn't waste any time. He had sense enough to grab Colin's satchel as well as his own, and Lily got Liam's. He gave Lily an exhausted look. "Honestly those two! Always leaping before they think." He shook his head. "I mean. I expect that from Colin! --- but Liam?"
They followed after Liam! He dashed into the corridor that led to the stairs up to the rooms. Then turned quickly to the corridor that led to the restrooms. Thank God he turned away from them, Cursa thought! And then he was out into the alley behind the inn, heading for Diagon Alley. The look of terror on Liam's face told him much more than cryptic words: "He's not here! Lily! Cursa! I can't hear him!"

Lily stayed quiet as she watched Liam intently. The minute he shot up however, Lily knew something was wrong and she grabbed his satchel, hurrying after him. Her worry grew as Liam turned to them and said that he wasn’t there. Wasn’t in the pub. “Shit.” Lily cursed, her eyes wandering the area in worry. Liam moved to go towards Diagonal Alley and Lily lunged forward grabbing his wrist. “No! He wouldn’t be in Diagon Alley. We’re heading elsewhere. Stay behind me! You’ll be safer especially since neither of you can transform! Just…watch your backs.” Lily shoved his satchel in his arms, took off her necklace that her father had given her a couple years before he died, and handed it to Liam. “Do not lose that.” She took off her watch and earrings, shoving them into Liam’s satchel, before transforming to her fox form. She nudged both Liam and Cursa, making it clear they were to follow behind her. Then she used her nose to sniff out the familiar scent of her brother. She followed it into Knockturn Alley but somehow lost it at the door of a shop. With a small growl, she gave Liam a nudge making him open the door for her. She padded inside and sniffed around, but the odors were too confusing to even make out Colin’s scent. She went back in the store, where she saw old crates. She didn’t hear the boys behind her anymore but she wasn’t too worried. They could take care of themselves. She pushed crates and all aside, trying to see if her beloved brother was in here. Then finally, she caught a small whiff of the smell she knew oh so well and she followed it to a corner filled with crates and boxes. And there he was. No clothes and very battered. Lily snarled deep in her throat before she transformed back to her girl form. She dropped down beside him, assessing the injuries and petting his hair back. “Liam! Cursa! I found him! Back here!” She called out to the boys. She looked down at her brother, anger forming in her stomach. “Oh Colin, darling, what did you get into this time? I swear I find the idiots who did this…and they will deeply regret it.” Lily whispered in a low, dark voice.
