As Hikari stared down at the little brown and white animal that was currently wagging its tail at him, he wondered what on earth it was that had made his brother think he wanted a pet.

He didn't mind having a small animal in the house.

He did however, mind the fact that it seemed the little animal was going to be his responsibility.

"...Why?"

Hayato looked way too pleased with himself.

"Why what? It's an early birthday present."

"I just had my birthday," Hikari sighed, "That's ridiculous."

The pup yipped, dashing across his room and smacking headfirst into his chair. Hikari winced.

"It's fine." Hayato was quick to reassure him, "He does that sometimes but he's... uh... uninjured."

Which... Wasn't remotely assuring.

Hikari glanced towards the Crup, who had apparently recovered from his collision and was now attempting to climb onto the chair as though nothing had happened. He watched it struggle for a few seconds before falling back onto the floor.

"Does he normally do that too?"

"Do what?"

"Attempt to climb up the furniture."

Hayato shrugged, "No clue. I just got him. You'll figure it out eventually."

"Why would you choose to give it to me instead of Tomoe or even Takeo?" Hikari questioned, quickly shifting one of his books away from the puppy's (space) on his bed.

"He's cute."

Hikari looked at his brother for a moment, waiting for him to elaborate, "...And?"

Hayato hesitated, "And uh... whatever! A pet would be good for you. Mom agrees too! That's the only reason I managed to get him you know."

Hayato was spared his smart retort as he lowered himself onto the edge of his bed. The Crup followed him immediately, settling down at his feet before seemingly changing its mind and climbing onto the edge of the blanket.

Hikari caught it before it could fall.

"What am I meant to do with him?" The crup settled on his knee, seeming like it was preparing to go to sleep. Hayato fished out a booklet from the duffle bag in his hand and tossed it to him, "Instructions." He explained, "On how to raise a child."

Hikari caught it with one hand and stared at the cover.

"You're joking."

"Nope." Hayato popped the 'p' as he dumped the duffle bag near his desk, before making a quick exit through the door, "Have fun with your kid."

Hikari watched him leave with growing dread, then turned towards the crup, which had shifted itself off his leg and had started biting at the blanket. Hikari extracted him gently.

"You're going to need a name."
