The day had finally arrived for Rain to go to school. His first time going to school with other wixen . His stomach began to flutter with butterflies. This would be much worse than summer camp. So long away from home. Rain could only hope that the holidays came soon and often.
Rain and his family came early to the station to mitigate his nerves and help him acclimate more before having to get on the train. Also, the trip from their home in Scotland to the station in London was a lot more inconvenient with Rain’s things.
And now it was time to say goodbye.
Rain turned to face his family on the platform. His mom, dad, little sister and brother. He would miss them more than anything. He felt tears come to his eyes before he could stop it and ran into his parents’ arms.
“I’ll really miss you guys. Promise you’ll write” Rain managed to choke out.
His father squeezed him tighter before speaking, “Of course we will. And we expect you to do the same. Your mother didn’t get into much trouble at school but I had a bit of a reputation. Who knows what you’ll get up to and we will want to hear all about it”.
Rain was so overcome with emotion all he could do was nod into his parents’ chests. But soon he would pull away because it was time to be a big boy and get on the train. He didn’t want his goodbye to be a sad one so he took one more breath of his parents’ scents and pulled away from the hug.
“I don’t want you to worry for me. I’ll be just fine. Summer camp taught me that I can do this. I’ll miss you, Mama, Pa”, Rain reassured them.
Rain’s mom reached over and stroked a hand down his cheek, “We know you can handle this Darling. We have all the faith in the world in you. And you’ll always make us proud. Chin up. You’ll see us faster than you know”.
With that Rain pulled away and turned to his pouting little sister and pulled her into a hug. “It’ll be okay. I’ll be home before you realize. And just think, now that I won’t be home you’ll be the oldest sibling and you’ll get to tell Sin what to do all the time now”.
Rain released his sister, Storme, after she squeezed him back and turned to look into his little brother’s pram. His brother, Oceanus, was still sleeping so Rain just gently ran a finger down his cheek and spoke softly to him, “I’ll miss you, Sin. See you later”.
After his goodbye to Oceanus, Rain picked his trunk up but the handle, gave a final hug to his parents and sister and turned to board the train.
This was it. He’d have to make this year the best that he could.
