A standard, boring lunch

It was Thursday, which meant Ethan and @Anirudh Yellepeddi had about fifteen minutes to get from Charms to lunch before the Great Hall became impossible to walk through. The two Ravenclaws walked in together and immediately saw @Lennon Han sitting at the Slytherin table. Lennon waved at them, almost hitting another student with his fork. Ethan waved back, while Anirudh just nodded because that was about as much excitement as Anirudh usually showed. Ethan grabbed some food and went for a Greek salad, because unlike most people at Hogwarts, he wasn't going to eat a giant plate of meat every day. He had been vegetarian since 4th grade, and Hogwarts actually had a surprising amount of food he could eat. Anirudh got almost the same thing, but then he looked at the roast chicken for a few seconds before taking one piece. "I thought you weren't eating chicken anymore," Ethan said. "I mostly don't." "...Mostly?" Ethan stared at him for a second. It wasn't a great explanation, but it was technically an explanation. They sat down and started eating when Lennon suddenly stood up from the Slytherin table and walked over. "I'm visiting," Lennon said. "You know you can't sit here, right?" Ethan asked. "I know. I'm just choosing to ignore that." "You can't ignore a seating chart." "I ignore lots of things." Before Ethan could respond, a Slytherin prefect looked over. "Lennon." "I'm leaving." He immediately walked back before the prefect could even say anything else. Anirudh watched him go. "He has surprisingly good survival instincts." "He really does," Ethan said. "He just waits until the last possible second." Across the Great Hall, Lennon was now trying to convince another Slytherin that pudding counted as a vegetable. "It comes from milk," Lennon said. "So?" "Cows eat grass." The Slytherin looked confused. "And?" "The pudding is basically processed salad." Ethan heard this and started laughing so hard he almost dropped his fork. "You know," Anirudh said, "sometimes I wonder how he's still alive." "I've stopped wondering." Then an owl flew into the Great Hall carrying three letters. It dropped one onto Ethan's plate, one onto Anirudh's, and one directly into Lennon's mashed potatoes. Lennon stared at it. "..NOOOOOOO!" Lennon screamed. Ethan opened his letter and immediately smiled. **RAVENCLAW QUIDDITCH TRYOUTS. SATURDAY.** "I knew they were announcing them soon!" Anirudh looked at his own letter. "Mine is just Astronomy homework." Ethan looked at it. "You got robbed." Lennon pulled his letter out of the mashed potatoes and opened it. "It says I have detention." Ethan looked at him. "...For what?" Lennon looked at the letter again. "It doesn't say." Anirudh looked suspicious. "Do you know what it's for?" Lennon thought for a few seconds. "I have about six guesses." Neither of them wanted to know. They finished lunch while Ethan talked about Quidditch, Anirudh tried explaining why futbol was actually a good sport, and Lennon argued that if beaters were allowed to attack spectators then Quidditch would be way more interesting. Ethan had to admit that idea was probably the worst thing he had ever heard, but also exactly the kind of thing Lennon would say. Eventually they left the Great Hall together. Ethan and Anirudh went toward Ravenclaw Tower, while Lennon disappeared toward the dungeons, probably to figure out which of his six guesses had earned him detention.
