I lived with my parents and my cat Audrey in a quaint one-family house in Keswick (the Lakes District). Audrey was having a blooming romance with the lady cat from the other side of the street when I received the Hogwarts letter. I wonder how they're doing now. I had few pals whom I would call true friends, but those I got I love dearly and I do prefer quality over quantity. Being a witch now doesn't make our bounds any bit different. I miss them tremendously here at Hogwarts — perching at the window and inhaling the subdued sweetness during sunrise, at lunch at the long table with all the chaotic chattering around me, in the serene evening next to the heat of the fireplace.
I'm not skilled at confidently introducing myself to strangers. I tend to stutter and forget what sentences I had planned out in my head whenever I gather up the nerve to go for it. This must be why I haven't yet developed any real connections with my fellow students at this huge place. I did make quite a few lovely acquaintances with some girls from Ravenclaw and my own house. But there never seemed to be room for deeper questions or the comfortable silence which is only possible when two people understand each other. So yeah, it's still a bit lonely here. But I can have a lot of fun focusing on the lessons. (To be frank, starting anew in a world where most of the rules in your old one are not valid anymore really makes me wonder — what on earth did I study all those things for with all my years?!)
It's strange and surreal finding myself in a world like this all of a sudden. You see, I've always been absorbed by tales from other worlds, such as Middle Earth or Narnia. I constantly felt like I belonged to somewhere more...magical. And not the modern, minimalist, overcrowded, overstimulating Muggle world. In most ways, being a witch now is, dryly described, an improvement. Yet there's something tugging at me — I was already wondering who I am before the element of being part of the Wizarding World unveiled itself. Now the matter has only become more tangled. But I could embrace that. The only path leads one forward, anyway.
