DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT
━━━━━━━
---It was the day after winter break had concluded. Over the weeks, the fifth year had developed a habit of staying up well into the night, partly due to the impending doom of OWLs and partly because it simply gave her space to think.
---Most of all, she thought about her life after Hogwarts. The snake felt her skin slowly shedding from her body, however without a tangible self and identity, what was there left to show? Dueling was unlikely to bring her anywhere. Her record from her years on the Viridian Vipers was unimpressive at best and pathetic at worst. It was only late in the year when Guinevere had written her name back on the sign up sheet, the paper that she originally had signed likely already decomposed or in a dumpster somewhere. She reckoned she was unlikely to find her way back onto the coveted team before graduation, despite being the oldest on the team and waitlist combined. Thus she spent her time unofficially dueling children to hone her skills.
---Guinevere also liked Defense Against the Dark Arts, but where would that lead her? Life as a dull Ministry worker, not too far from the taxing corporate prison she witnessed in big muggle cities?
---She was just a girl with good grades; grades which would be useless,

because no one cared what someone did in high school, or the witch equivalent in that case. But too much pondering about that wasn't good.
---On one January sixth, Guinevere found herself taking the steps up to the Astronomy tower. It was not a path she took often. The fifth year hatedstairs, and only deigned to come up when she had class. But everything was different at night, thus the cold breeze seeping through archaic stone bricks seemed to help lift her up the tower. A faint sliver of moon shone through the windows, and soon once she reached the summit, she could fully see the sky through the dome.
---She expected no one at this hour, and was greeted with no one. Scared to disturb the silence, Guinevere made her way to one edge of the glass, and lightly pried the window open to let in a breeze. Strangely, despite the apparent chill outside, she did not feel as cold as she should have. She glanced into the classroom, wondering if she should retrive a blanket, but decided against it. Too much comfort would very likely cause her to fall asleep up here.
---She took a seat on the floor, robes folded beneath her to provide an degree of cushioning. For a while, she simply sat there, observing the moon's path and the breeze on her skin.

Karime had gotten ready for bed like she always does. She made sure her roommates were asleep before sneaking out of the Booted Eagle dormitory and out of the ravenclaw tower. She knew as a ravenclaw but also a first year that she shouldn't be roaming the halls at this hour. But like she did many nights she started heading to the astronomy tower. It was one of her favorite classes and she knew the way to it like the back of her hand. The stairs were nothing to her and she never minded going up them. Once she got there with her journal tucked under her arm. She could feel the cold breeze but something felt a bit off.

The room felt a bit more cold then she remembered. She looked around as she had a weird feeling someone else was here. Which surprised her because she would always come here at this hour and no one was ever here. The first night she came up here she was afraid of someone finding her here and reporting her. She looked around and then froze a bit when she saw a girl on the floor, robe folded beneath them. The girl looked to be very older than Karime. Like they had only a few years left here at the school before graduating.

Karime was a bit timid to approach her as she saw they had a window slightly open and was enjoying the cold night breeze and the night sky. She didn't want to scare them or for herself to get in trouble for being up here. She was a bit afraid of upperclassmen as she believed they always followed the rules and would tell if someone wasn't doing the right thing. But Karime took a deep breath and decided to make her presence know so she could hopefully be able to stay here and write in her journal without disturbing the other person here. She walked up to the person slowly and in a slightly low voiced asked, “Um excuse me… Do you mind if I'm here with you?.... I can be in another corner and just write”.

DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT
━━━━━━━
---Despite her efforts to stay awake, fighting the drowsiness was an arduous battle. Guinevere was still sat upright, thus from afar it would seem as though she was simply in deep contemplation. "Aer calidus," she muttered, grasping for her wand after recalling that she did not exactly know how to cast spells without her wand. Nonetheless, the spell made dozing off slightly more comfortable.

---It was a true relief that Guinevere had slipped out of unconsciousness rather quickly. She did not tend to have long naps, which certainly helped when one considered the consequences of oversleeping, especially in her current situation. She imagined it would be rather embarrassing to be woken with a detention slip by some figure of authority within the school.

---She did not discern who was addressing her at first, but quickly the dark ceded her vision, thanks to a handy ability to see in the dark due to the low luminosity of Slytherin's quarters. She quietly breathed out, blinking in quick succession to erase the drowsiness from the front of her head. She blinked again, but slower.

---"Uhm... who's this?" she queried slowly. In all honesty, the girl could have simply not said anything, and Guinevere would not be the wiser of her presence. "And why shouldn't I... say... rat you out?"

---There was a moment of silence or two, or three. "Jokes, jokes," she conceded. In all her years in the school, especially her upperclassman years, she had never exactly pulled any funny business on the kids. Better late than never.

---Guinevere took a closer look at the figure in front of her. She was holding a book of some sort. For writing, she had explained. She figured it must be nice, having the drive to be doing homework at such an hour. Perhaps the cold wind and air acted as some sort of motivator for this girl, for there were many other locations one could find to do homework. The follies of youth, she supposed.

"And why shouldn't I... say... rat you out?". Karime heard the girl say and she felt her heart jump a bit and her body shudder. Her mind started running as she tried to think of reasons. “W-well because….”. “Dang it why am I blanking…. I always have a reason or things I can say. Why am I blanking now?!!”.Karime's internal thoughts were interrupted as she looked back at the girl after hearing her say "Jokes, jokes,". Karime sighs softly with relief as she realizes the girl wouldn't rat her or tell on her. Karime smiled softly as she looked around the astronomy tower. “Um well my name is Karime… im a first year if it wasn't obvious”. Karime chuckled nervously as she rubbed the back of her neck with her free hand. “You totally don’t have to tell me your name but I'm sorry for bothering you and probably should have just sat far away and let you sleep.... You can go back to your nap while I just go to another corner and just write in my journal. You must like the quietness of the Astronomy tower too?”

Karime opens her eyes and looks at the girl who she could tell was lost in thought or something. Karime felt a bit nervous as she started thinking she had said too much and was probably bothering her now. She had a tendency to overthink and felt she was sometimes too much and probably annoyed people. She really only had her brother and kids in her community to talk to and so a school environment and talking to students in a school was new to her. As she was homeschooled her whole life until she was old enough to receive her Hogwarts letter just like her brother did when he was her age.
