Studying in the Snow
Chloe had been looking forward to the snow, and here it was. She left the warmth of the Hufflepuff Common Room, carrying her bag of books with her, and made her way outside. She was bundled up, nice and warm, with her black and yellow scarf and mittens, holding a mug of steaming hot cocoa. She smiled to herself as she stepped foot outside. The brisk winter air bit at her nose. She looked around. Not a soul in sight. It would a peaceful study session.
She slowly made her way down toward her favorite tree by the lake, being very careful not to slip and spill the source of warmth in her hands. When she made it to the tree, she smiled again and sat down. It was peaceful outdoors right now. The lake was frozen over, and it was truly a beautiful sight to see.
Chloe leaned her head back on the tree as she took a sip, enjoying the liquid as it warmed her stomach. She moved a bit of snow and a rock, trying to make a nice spot to set her drink where it wouldn't get knocked over. When she was satisfied with her makeshift rock and snow table, she looked back over to her bag, opening her Charms textbook so that she could practice. She wasn't very good at Charms. She took out her wand, just in case she came across a spell she could practice.

Studying in the Snow
twenty-third december 2018
hufflepuff common room --> great lake
The weather had grown chillier, and with that, it meant that Finley would rather be sitting inside with a warm glass of cider and chit-chatting with someone by the warm fire. She had always admired the warmth better than the cold; no wonder her parents told her she truly was a fish! She even swam like one!
Finley groaned. Yes, that was right. She had to wait for warmer weather. Gross. Moment by moment, she grew more impatient and waited for the brisk winter days to dash by much quicker than they had been dragging on. Winter was a long season for her and tested what little patience she had. It was like a seasonal sickness, but of the mind's tolerance to this long, white season.
After her encounter with Remy, Finley was sick of the lake, so she scuffed the heel of her boot into the snow and sighed, her breath forming swirls as she exhaled. She stuffed her hands in her pockets and held her father's old ice skates in her hand, just by chance she wanted to take them for another spin. By now, her ankles were nowhere near kind to her, but in order to avoid collapsing face-first into the chilling snow, she had to sit down. She had grown a little dizzy from sprinting down the stairs from the Common Room.
Why did Finley even come here? Even though the sun revealed himself today, there was not much melting of the snow, and the wind increased the chill more. The ice would have been too fragile for her to skate, but she noticed a silhouette in the distance, whipping her wand to and fro, shouting charms, but not like the ones she had heard of before in her homework. Maybe she was ahead?
Regardless, Finley pulled her boots out of the snow and raced over to the girl, watching her cast her spells. With wide eyes, Finley approached her. "Whoa!" Her voice soared through the open grounds and she pulled down her hand-knitted hat. "What was that you just cast? It sounds cool!" With this girl, Finley's day was automatically made. Her spells would only make the day cooler.
