Chapter 1

All Layal wanted was an hour of uninterrupted reading time. Is that really too much to ask?

Ever since she had discovered the magnificent Hogwarts library, Layal had spent all her afternoons exactly the same: homework, choosing a book from the library if she was finished with the previous one, and—only recently—going to read under the tree facing the lake instead of staying cooped up inside.

Today, however, the book she wanted to read next wasn't in its usual spot. It was imprisoned in the clutches of another human. A Gryffindor boy, a first-year from the looks of him, was reading the synopsis, eyes flicking back and forth across the back cover.

No, no, no. No. Absolutely not. This was the next book on her TBR, and one does not, under any circumstances, deviate from their TBR.

Deep breaths. It's going to be fine. There's probably another copy anyway, right? What kind of library would have only one copy of a decent story, after all?

Over, under, behind, left, right—anywhere and everywhere she looked, there was nothing. That was the only copy on the shelves.

Exhaling a long breath, she pulled her cap low and leaned against the shelf, crossing her arms. Facing the boy, she said, "You've been staring at the back cover for two minutes. Unless you're planning to memorize the blurb, I'll be taking that off your hands, thank you very much."

─────Lucian was interested in reading books and when he found that Hogwarts Library was exquisite, he started spending his time there. He would take his assignments there and use the library books to have finish them. He was a good student. He was excited to learn about new things and didn't want to waste a minute doing anything else than learning things during his day time in school. He would always have his notebook with him and a quill.

Today he had picked a book that he needed for his assignment and he was reading the back of it to make sure it was the correct book. Which it was. He was going to use it to finish his work. He was about to sit down and write notes in his notebook when a girl appeared and it startled him a little. He took a step back. She seemed to be in the same year as him. But he was not sure. He looked at her and then at his book in his hand.

The girl in front of him was taking deep breaths. Was she going to attack him for the book? Or what? He clutched the book harder. He didn't want to let it go. He had come to the library first and taken the book out of the shelf. He wanted it for his homework and was not going to give it to someone else just because they wanted it. "I was reading it's synopsis. And I plan to use it for my work. You can't have it Miss. Go find another copy of it or ask the Librarian for another copy. Cause this one is mine." He said firmly. "I am not going to give it to you." He added.
