Her first year at Hogwarts had come and gone. And now, she was back in her beloved home, with her beloved parents.

Rowan and Dalia loved their only daughter dearly. They were overjoyed to have her home and hear her stories of her first year away. She’d done good in her time without them. They were proud of her, though they admittedly would’ve been proud of her just for going to Hogwarts. So they wanted to reward her with something that she’d wanted since she was very little.

On an early summer morning, Sia dragged her feet lazily down the stairs. She failed to notice the absence of her parents’ voices from the kitchen, too wrapped up in lingering sleep. It was the sight of the breakfast table that made her truly wake up and become aware of her surroundings. For there was no breakfast on the breakfast table, as she’d been expecting, but a single box wrapped neatly in pink paper.

Tilting her head in confusion, Sia stepped closer to the table. A gift? Well, it wasn’t Christmas or anything, but she wasn’t about to turn down a gift. She slowly pulled the box closer to herself, wondering what could be inside. She glanced around, peeking into the kitchen to see if her parents were near so she could ask about the gift, but they were nowhere to be seen.

With a shrug, Sia gazed at the little box one last time. Moment of truth, then. She carefully lifted the lid of the box, and then promptly let it fall to the floor with a gasp. Looking back at her from inside the box were the cutest pair of little black eyes she’d ever seen, on the cutest little dark grey bunny she’d ever seen.

“Oh my goodness.” She whispered, bringing her hands to her mouth.

The bunny stood on its hind legs to look out at the world that was the living room. Sia bit back a squeal. She tentatively wrapped her hands around the tiny creature, and brought it to her chest. They stared at each other for a moment, mutually intrigued.

“You’re so itty bitty.” Sia declared in a soft whisper. “You’re like a lotus flower.”

The bunny’s nose twitched lightly. Even that was adorable. Sia grinned, and pecked the bunny’s head. The bunny closed her eyes, seemingly approving of the action.

“Little Lotus.”

From the stairs, Rowan and Dalia smiled at their little girl and her new pet. They knew she was ready.
