Reducio Xinyue remembers almost nothing about her mother. Only fragments her brain unconsciously still holds onto. The smell of Jasmine tea, a Chinese lullaby and a pair of gentle hands. Because of this, she is terrified of forgetting. She takes pictures, journals everything, keeps taking Chinese lessons even though she already speaks fluently and refuses to throw away the old fox stuffed animal, her mother gave her years ago. If someone asks about it, she simply shrugs while cursing herself for not remembering her mother’s face. As the only not blood related member of the household, she secretly fears being abandoned or taken away, should her biological father ever appear. She had never shared this worry with anyone as if revealing it, would make it even more real. While naturally a rather pretty girl, Xinyue has never been particularly aware of it. Raised by three single men from the age of four, she mostly wears clothes a boy her age could also wear. After outgrowing the ones her mother bought her prior to her passing, she even occasionally wore her stepbrothers’ old clothes. Initially, the younger of the brothers had tried to learn how to deal with Xinyue's hair but failed spectacularly, causing it to remain in a perpetual “slightly messy” state. She doesn’t have issues being rowdy around boys but tends to be on the quiet side, when surrounded by girls since she doesn’t quite know how to fit in with them. However when threatened, Xinyue is not scared to stand her ground. She was taught how to defend herself from a very early age. She can be fiercely stubborn and difficult to intimidate. Her brothers often say she is like a cat. Easily spooked but ferocious little thing. Her biggest enemy are her own magical migraines and inability to understand how to be a girl. Xinyue always places logic over idealism and generally prefers to be practical since that’s how she was raised. Thanks to her brothers, she is very good at sports and is an amazing singer (likely taking after her mother) but practically nobody knows because Xinyue doesn’t think it’s important enough to mention. She tends to wake up unreasonably early. A habit developed by living in a strict regime of her military wired stepfather. DISABILITY Xinyue occasionally suffers migraines with aura. It’s invisible most of the time but frustratingly disrupting. Usually offset by stress, lack of sleep, extremely bright lights or long hours of studying. The muggle doctors had wrongly diagnosed her with regular muggle migraines because nobody, not even Xinyue’s family, know about the magical incident that happened years ago. Back then Xiuying was too embarrassed and guilty to tell anyone and since at the time, there didn't seem to be any issues, she thought the backfired spell didn't actually do any damage. She had died with said belief and Xinyue herself was too young to really remember the event. |

THE HOUSEHOLDThe Li/Hayes household is a place, where people never hug. Nobody says “I love you” instead, they say: “Text me when you get there.” “Wear your scarf.” “Take this.” That’s how affection works in the family after Li Xiuying left them.
Reducio  When she met Richard, she didn’t fall carelessly but he became her rock. Everything Yuchen promised and never delivered. She finally opened her own tea house and poured all her love into her tiny daughter. She also loved Richad‘s two sons as if they were her own, finally bringing the gentle woman touch to the Heyes household. Then just two years after she stepped into their lives, she was gone. A trafic accident. Instant death. No conspiracy. Just a bad luck and a lesson that even magic has its limits. |
Reducio  Magic makes him uncomfortable. Not because he thinks it’s evil but because it ignores every rule he’d built his life on. Soldier’s survival is achieved with planning. Magic is fickle and he hates relying on something he cannot understand. Thankfully, Xiuying understood him and never used magic, when he was around. When she died, he threw away all magical trinkets she left behind stashed away. Even so, Richard never got rid of her wand. He simply couldn’t do it. Instead, he locked it in a wooden box together with her journal and hidden it in the attic, where it remains. Richard tried to learn more about Chinese culture for Xinyue but the results were rather poor. Every lunar year he cooks from one of Xiuying’s homemade recipes with various degrees of success. His sons try to help. Sometimes the dumplings fall apart, other times he forgets an important ingredient. It’s never quite right but, without fail, he tries again year after year. |

Reducio  Unlike his brother, Nathan rarely dates. When asked about it, he simply says he has no time, which is only half-true. Much like the other two Hayes men, he is too scared to let someone in and end up getting left behind. |

Reducio  Unfortunately, he got his reality check, when Xiuying eventually got pregnant. He refused to acknowledge her or their unborn child as it would threaten his family standing. Choosing legacy over his love, Yuchen quickly severed all ties, leaving Xiuying face motherhood alone while he went on to build an impressive career and reclaim his rightful spot in society. He considers this decision a necessary sacrifice rather than a betrayal Xiuying rightfully believed it to be. |

Reducio Xinyue’s mother Li Xiuying, was born into a Chinese muggle family that relocated to London because of her father’s job. While her late parents sent their only daughter to Hogwarts after she received her letter, they started growing distant due to their fear of magic. This continued over the years until the distance between them finally became impossible to bridge. As such, Xiuying started looking for closer connections within the halls of Hogwarts caste. Soon, she fell in love with a pure-blood classmate Zhang Yuchen, bonding over their shared heritage and love for magic. Their relationship endured long after graduation, even after Xiuying’s parents passed away, Yuchen remained by her side, promising to take care of her in their stead. Then, Xiuying got pregnant and Yuchen abandoned her without a moment of hesitation, taking all his financial support with him. Being alone young and pregnant, her mother struggled to make ends meet. It only got worse once Xinyue was born. Eventually, unable to pay rent, she and her one-year-old daughter found themselves homeless. It was there, on a rain soaked London street that Richard Hayes found them. It was not love at first sight but a beautiful companionship, born of loneliness and mutual understanding. And so Xinyue gained a new family. Her stepfather is a career soldier. Stern and struggling to show emotions but never failing to provide for those under his care. Years ago, he lost his wife when she died giving birth to his second son. Since then, he had been raising his two sons (James and Nathan) alone. Richard is a rational and practical man that can't cope well with things he doesn't understand so when he found out about Xiuying being a witch, he didn't take it well. He wasn’t angry with her but it was painfully clear how uncomfortable it made him feel. Due to this, Xiuying never used magic around him and his sons and Xinyue practically grew up as an ordinary muggle child. Tragically, when Xinyue was only four years old, her mother was killed in a hit-and-run accident. Xiuying never spoke about Xinyue’s biological father and didn’t even put him on her baby’s birth certificate so once left behind, Richard became Xinyue’s legal guardian, while James and Nathan did their best to help raise her. All three men love Xinyue in their own way but undoubtedly struggle to raise her. Richard is often gone due to his job and the two brothers felt the woman presence in their household only briefly before loss claimed her. None of them is truly equipped with a sufficient knowledge on how to raise a little girl. Due to this Xinyue continuously struggles to understand how to behave or make friends with other girls, too awkward and borderline scared to approach them. When Xinyue was three years old Xiuying, who had spent years suppressing her magic for the sake of Richard and his sons, secretly experimented with some spells at night. Her daughter was awoken by the noises and went to look for her mother. Unfortunately, she had managed to startle the woman enough for one of her spells to backfire and hit her daughter in the head. The little Xinyue lost consciousness but didn’t seem to have any issues after waking up. Unbeknownst to anyone, a hidden condition started brewing as a result of the backfired spell. At nine years old, Xinyue, who had already occasionally suffered from minor headaches that appeared after her mother's death (likely accelerated by her mental state at the time), began suffering from intense migraines accompanied by vivid auras. Since the condition was caused by magic without anyone knowing, the muggle doctors misdiagnosed her with regular migraines. It was the first intense migraine eventually led towards her first accidental experience with magic. When the crushing pain overwhelmed her, every light around her suddenly went out, without anyone ever touching a switch. The boys were beyond confused but their father guessed what might be happening. This was later confirmed, when Xinyue got her letter from Hogwarts. Her stepfather wasn’t too happy about it but he is a smart man and understood that denying Xinyue a magical education would only leave her frightened and unable to control the power she possessed.
